Ship Commander Fired After Harassment Claims

Dearest Wicked Weasel,

I humbly bow in apology for offending you with the "grow up". I am so very, very, very sorry that you were offended. I know you are a grown up and know exactly that of which you speak.

Having said that, The two questions remain. Pretty please with sugar and honey ... answer them for me so that I might better understand your post.

A L

Having served on 6 ships I can say when I first joined the Navy in 1956 the food was not very good.....I was on a broken down WW2 destroyer called the USS Moale (DD693) and it was not built for the comfort of the crew.....We would usually run out of Milk and fresh fruit anf vegetables after about a week at sea...The ship did not have the space to store it........As the years passed they started building ship to include the comfort of the crew and the chow got much better........The last ship I was on I was a CPO and we had are own Chiefs mess and our own chow.........Try steak and Lobster once a week.........

You got that right......The average age of a Navy Enlisted is 19.........At that age the juices flow in both sexes and being aboard a Navy ship for long periods of time does not help the situation.......The solution is simple...move the women ashore......most of them don't want to be on a ship anyhow....

19 is adult and they can behave as an adult and not harass other people. The solution is simple. GROW UP

Somewhere in there, the navy learned how to do unreps, so they did not have to store all that.

22 out of 1,500 and were all 22 relived for harassing just women? A whole whopping 1.4% of commanders. I dunno NP, it sounds like you are doing the twist again, trying to use 19 years olds as the equiv of the Commander of a US warship in terms of maturity and judgement. If that were the case we can close down Annapolis and have the kids running the ship!

You have to understand this was 22 Coomanding Officers........I don't know how many women were among the 22........There should be zero Commanding Officers getting involved in this kind of nonsense.....We are not even taking about the crew here....

You have to understand, this was 22 commanding officers who where relived, for some reason. Not 22 for sexual harassment.

So you're in close quarters with the opposite sex for many weeks at a time. Big ****ing deal, the navy isn't the only job in the world like that. You aren't a unique snowflake who has some special right to sexually harass others just because you were in the military, NP. I've worked in close quarters with attractive women for 16+ waking hours a day, and it's never once crossed my mind to sexually harass them. If you can't control yourself, then you can and should be fired. That goes for civilian and military jobs alike.

In civilian jobs it usually 8 hours a day...In the Navy its 24/7 for for weeks and sometime months at a time......Huge difference..

I blame both sexes my far out left wing friend............It takes 2 to tango........

Since that works for sexual harrassment, does it also work for rape?

ps. "Far out left wing"... I'm special, guys - see?

NP, this might be complex...but if it is harassment, it is not "tangoing", it is one sides....

No, there have been times where I've been away from home and have worked with attractive women for virtually every waking hour, for every day, for weeks at a time. And yet I've never sexually harassed them. Don't assume that it's a common thing to not be able to control yourself, just because YOU might not be able to.

It's like far right wing Conservatives don't expect the military to have the same standards of professionalism as the rest of us. ****, I travel and work with beautiful women AT LEAST once a month. I've worked with women who physically could run circles around my wife and still I've never ever had the urge to cross the line of professionalism. Not once - not only out of respect for my wife but out of respect FOR MY JOB. But Navy Pride apparently thinks our military is not smart/good/professional enough to do just that.

Yeah, but you have to remember that far right wing conservatives don't get upset when men treat women like meat because, as far as they're concerned, women are meat. They're just doing what they think their imaginary friend in the sky wants them to do.

This is the kind of thing that happens when you allow women to serve aboard a Navy combatant.........The Navy should not be used for social experimentation.....It is there to fight our wars..........We have enough problems already without mixing the sexes......If they have to serve at sea then put them on all female ships.........

NORFOLK, Va. - The commanding officer of a Florida-based warship was removed from the post during an overseas deployment after several female crew members alleged that he sexually harassed women aboard ship, a Navy report shows.
Cmdr. Derick Armstrong was relieved of command in May, about six months after his promotion to the top job aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans. Of the 1,500 commanding officers in the Navy, 22 were removed from the job last year for various reasons

This is highly unusual.

The US government nor any senior officers care about sexual harassment and seldom, if ever, remove officers for that reason. He had to have screwed up in some other way.

Females who want to join the US Armed Services should expect harassment on a daily basis, because the US government recruits every piece of riff raff on the streets it can find (since hardly any intelligent people volunteer).

This is totally and entirely untrue. It is not even remotely close to being anywhere near accurate.

Wrong. The Navy is there to fight uncle sammy's wars.

Don't confuse freedom-loving Americans with sammy. Thank you.

Incorrect. Sexual harassment has been a focus for over 20 years.

I was involved in 812 Unreps as the Cargo operation officer on the USS SACRAMENTO (AOE!) in 1968 in the South China Seas so there is some truth to what you say but main thing was the powedered milk was much better as was the dehydrated foods but the main thing was space to store the provisions was increased........

It's totally accurate. If it weren't, sexual harassment in the military wouldn't be the significant, chronic problem that it is.

I will remind you (again) that the US is not a dictatorship. Bush won the election and more than half of congress supported his foreign policy. Our government, by definition, represents us.

The US is not the same thing as Iran. Do you understand?

dumbya wanted to continue the war in Iraq for 6 years. The people did not. Dictatorship 101.

You don't understand. This is hopeless. I'm not sure where you got dictatorships and representative government confused, but it seems there's no fixing it.

Is it because you want to believe that Iran's government is the same as the US?

Do you vote?

That proves my point.

No it doesn't. Not in the least and for reasons you know so little about that you are going to make a fool of yourself stumbling through them.

It's totally accurate. If it weren't, sexual harassment in the military wouldn't be the significant, chronic problem that it is.

Some of us have served and have actual experience on this. Notice for example the stat NP is misusing, 22 out of 1500 commanders relieved. That is 1.5 % relieved for some reason, not harassment. The number for harassment is probably under 1 %, in fact, probably well under 1 %.

In the military, you go to frequent training on this very subject. It is long, it is boring, and it is mandatory. When you have as many people as the military has however, some are going to be rule breakers. This was true before women could serve, will be true forever. Some will do drugs, some will drink on duty, some can't show up on time, some go AWOL(or UA), some get in fights, some create racial incidents. Do you think, since those are all "significant, chronic problems", that the military and government does not care?

Representative democracy is where the people can elect whomever they want...

...as opposed to 2 political parties run by corporations writing ballot access to lock everyone else out--that's a plutocracy, and that's the US.

As a result, the US military fights wars for Exxon and Alcoa, not the people.

Is it because you want to believe that Iran's government is the same as the US?

Almost, except the US is a plutocracy whereas Iran is a theocracy.

In the US, the President takes orders from Exxon, Goldman Sachs, Alcoa, etc., and in Iran, the President takes orders from the Supreme Leader.
