Amazing! The guy raises 2 million dollars and the DNV refuses to reimburse the city for the costs it incurred during a fundraising stop.

Gordon Joseloff, the first selectman of Westport, says he was informed this week the town's request to have the DNC and Obama for America cover the $14,812 the city paid in police and fire overtime was denied. The president traveled to the area on Aug. 6 to attend a fundraiser in Stamford and a $35,800 per person dinner at the Westport home of movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

And apparently there is a pattern of this...

This isn't the first time local officials have gotten in a dispute over payments for security costs to accommodate presidential candidates. The city of Newport Beach, Calif., for months has been trying to get the Obama campaign to pay $35,000 in security costs for a fundraiser earlier this year. According to the Los Angeles Times, though, the Romney campaign did reimburse the city for security costs at a Republican fundraiser.

Apparently so. Do you think the DNC will ever get wise the fact that folks smart enough to make a lot of money can also recognize when they are getting ripped off?

Part of the Democratic philosophy is "Let someone else pay my way". They should have seen this coming.

I think it's just plain wrong. Cities have their budgets torn apart when the President visits -- whether for fundraising or on political business.

that is not rational financial behavior
there are wants and there are needs
providing the additional city resources for something that is not sponsored by the city is fiscally irresponsible
no matter whether the politician is dem, republican or foreign
when they and their entourage realize that they are no longer going to benefit from additional security that was being paid by others, they will either do without, fund the local security costs, or not make the trip
'problem' solved

Here, how about this:

Minn. Counties Waiting For State GOP To Pay Bills « CBS Minnesota

The GOP in Minnesota is hurting for cash, largely because of their own stupidity. They are in danger of being evicted from their headquarters because they've neglected to pay their rent.

So now we have proof about the GOP.

And funny since the OP does not mention the places where the GOP did not pay... like it has been shown above.. seems more like the usual selective outrage by the GOP.

Did you read the link?

It wasnt about the romney campaign not paying for costs incurred to the city for services used, but a local GOP HQ not having enough cash to pay the rent at a few of their offices... this should be handled, but it isnt the same thing

From the link that the GOP isn't paying its bills said:
Republican Party Chairman Tony Sutton says the party is short on cash but is paying off counties as it gets money to do so. He tells The Free Press of Mankato all bills will eventually be paid.

That's the state party, not the RNC. Moreover it is Minnesota, a notoriously corrupt state -- the state GOP should have done like the Dems, and spent their money buying votes instead of trying to prevent fraud and get an honest vote count.

If they were trying to prevent fraud, I'd buy this. Otherwise, it's just partisan BS. Please come back when you have something useful to add to the situation.

The recount in question was for the governor's race. Can you prove fraud? Neither could they. More like sore loser. Think Al Gore.

The best solution: "No, Mr. President/Senator/Congressman. The city will not provide extra police and fire protection for your visit. Please make arrangements for SS to provide additional security or be prepared to commission off-duty officers out of your own pocket."

These are not government functions, so why did the city bother to do security? These are private fundraisers. Pay up front for the police, or provide your own security. That will never happen because the local town was looking to do some ass kissing to the potential president, and now they don't want to pay for their ass kissing. Next time say no. Sort of like when newt gingrich writes you a check despite being notorious for bouncing checks across his career you say "Cash only Mr. Gingrich." Just like any person who bounces checks for services gets told. believe me, when towns start telling the candidates to pay up front or not to bother they will get their money up front. What are the candidates going to do, not have a fundraiser or campaign?

oh, and anyone who thinks it is just the dems who does this is drinking way too much of the kool aid.

Here is an idea.Don't provide any tax payer dollars for any fundraiser. That means if they want security then the DNC or RNC hires security guards. If they are having $35,800 per person dinner then they can afford their own damn security. Tax payer dollars should not be used for fundraisers.

Exactly. Franken lost the election, but he won the recount. So now Minnesota has a Frankensenator.
