Skinny-dipping in Israel: GOP lawmakers reprimanded for drinking, swimming report says - 2chambers - The Washington Post

House Republican leaders reprimanded 30 lawmakers last August for antics including drinking and skinny-dipping during a fact-finding trip to Israel, according to published reports.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) scolded the lawmakers — many of them freshmen — and senior GOP staffers for a late-night swim in the Sea of Galilee. At least one of the lawmakers swam nude, according to a report published Sunday night by Politico.

Because what better way to celebrate the life of Jesus, than to get drunk and whip out your junk where He walked on water...

I debated putting this in News of the Weird. I really don't care what they did, but I must admit that it made me chuckle.

In front of women and families too. LOL! Love those drunk family values Republicans. Hell, I'll bet some of them even peed in the water. :lamo

Well, no matter. As long as none of them married another person of the same sex or had an abortion while they were there GOP partisans won't be in the least bit concerned.

It doesn't bother me when members of Congress want to go out Wilbur Mills-ing. What does bother me is when the other side acts holier than thou about it. The Phoenix paper reported that Rep. Quayle (Dan's son) participated, but his wife didn't as she is 8 months pregnant. We still hear about family values from most Arizona Republicans and Tea Partisans, except for Sen. McCain, and I for one am ****ing sick of hearing it.

It would be grand if the GOP could somehow end their dishonest relationship with the religious right and declare, "We are no different than those bastards across the isle. We drink and whore around too. One thing we are sick of doing is shoving falsely held morals up America's ass. We aren't going to do that anymore. Don't expect us to be any different than anyone else - because we aren't."

But yet today, Akin went and put his other foot in his mouth by saying this in an interview last night:

“It’s also appropriate to recognize a creator God, whose blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is the very source of American freedom,” the Republican congressman asserted. “And that part of the message, I feel, is missing. And I think that’s something that we need to encourage people and to let people remember in their hearts what it is that makes America such a great nation. And life is very much a part of that whole thing.”

And there we have it! Yet another politician who wants to bring his religion into the U.S. government. I don't mind at all that he believes what he believes. I do great mind that he is yet another politician who would force his God on the citizens of the nation. Not to mention that his God has obviously "blessed" him by making him an idiot.

Hey!

The jihadists do it for their god, so why not American politicians????

They are too conservative and sexually repressed. They are too freaky. They cant win. **** you guys... ;)

It doesn't bother me, except that if this had been a bunch of Democrats, it would be the "Godless Left disrespecting the Holy Land."

You know half of these guys are going to use their trip to Israel in a campaign speech about how "it filled them with such a sense of love for Jesus." Yeah, you were filled with something...

Truth be told there isn't a whole lot of difference between the Taliban and the Christiban. They both want the same things.

This is kinda idiotic, especially in light of the 'story'. Let me ask you something...do you think that having and promoting family values means you dont drink, dont smoke, and dont on occasion **** up? I got news for you...I know a LOT of LIBERALS that believe in family values...and smoke...and drink...and occasionally **** up. Your fauxrage over conservatives is petty...and frankly...its a lie. Obama is a Liberal and promotes...guess what...family values. There are a lot of Democrats that promote family values. Your rant on republicans and family values is simply petty and partisan.

Oh...and should anyone get upset over the 'religious significance and holiness' to the Jews over the swim site...

I don't really care that they did it. It's tacky and probably disrespectful to some, but it's basic human imperfection. Everybody makes a bad decision every now and then.

True...there are idiots that will use ANYTHING to attack the other side no matter how idiotic and hypocritical they make themselves look in the process.

It wasnt until the third story link I read that it said this happened a year ago. And just now making the 'news'? I feel silly for dedicating 3 minutes of my life to reading the 'stories'. If there is outrage to be had about this it should be that taxpayer dollars were spent by the FBI holding an 'investigation' over this.

Oh sure sweep it under the rug because they are republicans.

It did happen a year ago, but was just reported 2 days ago.

You missed my point. Everybody does do it, both ruling parties, as such I wish people would shut the **** up about it. Yes, I was tired of the Clintons saying it's "for the family" all the time, just as much as I am sick of "family values" crap. I don't care what these people do as long as the represent the people who elected them - and most don't. But as long as their behavior doesn't compromise their ability to remain impartial I'm fine.

Lately it's been the GOP that has been focused on the social engineering they always accused the Democrats of trying to do. How about I don't like it when anyone does it? But at the present it is the GOP making the attempts and it is the GOP that is in bed with religionists. You can't have it both ways. When you have Atkin, Bachman, Huckabee, Palin, Perry, Santorum, Caine and a host of others kissing James Dobson's fanny. It's all a bit hypercritical, innit?

Ah! See...now THAT is an entirely different point. The ones most often making the "gawd I hate republicans and their family values comments" are...well...typically liberals and typically attacking republicans. That you find it repugnant that BOTH parties do it didnt come across at all...primarily because it isnt remotely what you said. But THAT does clarify things somewhat.

Honestly, even when it is not to my advantage I believe wrong is wrong and right is right. I don't care which party is involved. In issues concerning morality my position is walk the talk or be quiet. I'm not saying don't do it, but what I am saying is don't lie about your position regarding morality.

I'm sick of that crap from both parties. I am registered Independent and I'm not changing that. Gary Johnson will get my vote. As for state and local level I always vote against the incumbent. The people have the power to impose term limits, but most voters are sheeple. I'll impose my own option for term limits.

he who has not skinny dipped can cast the first stone. i don't see why this is even newsworthy.

Ah...so reconcile then that with the entire OP and why this is even a 'story'...
