Secret Service bought cupcakes to thank baker for turning down Biden

This report does not seem well documented, is clearly biased, and the SS denies it ever happened.

And we know the SS leadership has a real good handle on what the troops are up to... :lamo

LOL, this might be a successful business model right now. Deny Obama/Biden services where ever they go!

Why not take their money while showing disdain for their policies? I think this guy did it just right.

Ross Murty likes business, but he doesn’t like President Obama.

And so the co-owner of the Village Corner Deli here agreed to cater Obama’s visit Wednesday — but not before donning a T-shirt blaring the message: “Government didn’t build my business. I did.”

Businesses can't legally deny service to someone for political reasons. There has to be another reason.

Of course, the other reason can be concocted, but it must be defensible in court.

The SS denied that its agents participated. It did not deny that they were there nor did they deny that the sweets were purchased. After the prostitute scandel, the SS has a credibility problem when it comes to denial.

The story sounds suspicious. Why would people thank someone for turning down the guy who basically their boss and can have them fired?

Maybe they don't like or respect the boss? Do you think that's ever happened?

I think they're smart enough not to advertise that if it's the case, because that's probably about the fastest way to get fired.

Can you show where a business must serve any and all customers in the law?

Oh, please. The Civil Rights Act doesn't cover one's political beliefs. A store owner can deny service to anyone except those in a protected class -- IF that is the reason they are denying service. Which, in this case, is NOT the case.

That's not true in government employment. In the government it takes at least a year to fire anyone, and the manager doing the firing has to be able to prove he/she has made every effort to accomodate and/or provide remedial training for the employee. What the managers usually do is reassign the employee to an undesirable job (often known in the bureaucracy as a turkey farm) and hope they resign. Since Obama has less than six months to serve, that would not be much of a deterrent to anyone fed up with arrogant incompetence of this president.

As a general rule of thumb, stories centered around the sale of cupcakes, pastries and other assorted baked goods aren't worthy of their own thread on a political forum.

But since this thread is centered around one small business that took a principled stand against political hooliganism, your comment doesn't really apply.

Nah, it's centered around pastry related gossip, nothing really worth considering, discussing, or even worthy of mention.

Most people who don't like their boss do not openly admit it or openly reward someone for dissecting and or refusing to do business with their boss because most people want to keep their jobs.

Your telling me that the vice president and president can't quickly have someone fired? I seriously doubt that.

Ah, but see Hare, this is not what the story is centered around....What it is about is a small business owner, that, you know, (didn't build that on his/her own) deciding not to let the Obama campaign use them as a prop in their campaign...I say good for them.

Obama has been bitch slapping small business around since the start, and its about time they started smacking back.

They can certainly have them transferred immediately to an undesirable post, but outright dismissal requires civil service procedures to be followed.

I can hardly wait for the tell-all books about this administration to start appearing.

You are telling me they would???

I don't think they would, it would be a PR disaster. Can you imagine the headlines? Obama takes retribution on agents supporting small business. Not to mention not a good idea to further P.O. your protection.

I would if I was them. How can you trust someone who doesn't like or respect you to defend you with their life to the best of their ability?

The SS is sworn to protect ... not sworn to like. If you remember back to the Jimmy years ... some SS folks left because the secondhand MJ smoke was showing up on their urine tests. And as I recall, not every SS guard cared very much for Billy. However, they did protect Jimmy's clan.

Well there are questions as to whether or not the story is even true.
