The anti-Chick-fil-A protest - Starbucks [W:39]

I am a coffee snob for sure. I have had some horrible coffee that would make Dunkin Donuts coffee seem drinkable, there is worse than Dunkin Donuts, but that doesn't mean that Dunkin Donuts is good. Dunkin Donuts has at best mediocre coffee. Starbucks, while not my favorite place, is better quality than Dunkin Donuts. Local coffee shops are where you shall find the GOOD coffee. Craft coffee is on a whole different level from chain coffee. It's like the difference between awesome micro brew beers and Budweiser.

I'm very much a coffee snob too and the place I frequent the most is a local coffee shop that has excellent brews. I brew my own stuff at home, but if it's older than 30 minutes I won't drink it anymore because it looses that fresh taste by then.

I'm not anti gay but I'm equal rights. SSM isn't about equal rights so I'll cut up my Starbucks card in support of equal rights.

You want to explain your logic -- how does marriage equality not mean 'equal rights'.

Meh, I don't understand the fuss over coffee myself. I actually hate the stuff. Tea is drinkable if you put about 9 pounds of sugar in it. Chai tea isn't half-bad. I go to breakfast places for food/donuts/pastries rather than coffee.

All this talk about coffee makes me wonder what it tastes like.

If I knew what engine oil tasted like, I'd probably say like that. It is really bitter actually, even if you put a barrel of milk in it.

Oh hell no. You need a good Columbian roast, with just the right proportion of cream and cane sugar. Someone probably prepared it incorrectly.

The proper amount of cream and sugar is 0 of both. Coffee is to be taken black, like the forefathers drank it!

Sitting in the lab the other day having a blood test done the lady taking my blood kept on going on about my coffee and how I don't use cream or sugar. Finally I just said "Once you go black you don't go back."

Oh yeah I'm white as Wonder bread and she was black.

;)

You must be using the wrong brand or don't know how to make coffee.

Coffee is supposed to be smooth and mellow and end that caffeine urge. I like Dunkin Donut, not too strong and not to weak, either, with a little cream and a little sugar. I use Splenda, although I don't like the taste as well as real sugar, but most reports say that too much sugar is not good for you, gives you a fat belly, so I suck it up and use Splenda.

I used to drink coffee black with a little sugar, then I moved to NH and everyone there drank it with cream - I started using it and got used to it, now I can't go back.

Haven’t seen a single news segment on this so it must have been a dud.

In-N-Out Burger has also got that Christian slant in their corporate culture and even have bible verses on its packaging. Yet, it doesn't attract negative publicity like Chick-fil-A now having with this same-sex marriage thing. I guess that is because In-N-Out burger, with that animal fries and neapolitan shake, is so freakin' delicious.

Its because their CEO wasn't asked a question that he was trying to avoid initially.

NH is a cool state, but you should teach them to man up. Coffee is taken black, all other additives are for kids.

I would if I still lived there. I now live in Texas, and I'm so used to drinking it with cream and sugar, I don't think I can ever drink it black again.

Get a competent ristretto puller on a good machine using an intelligently selected roast, you should prefer that to any other type of coffee you've ever tasted. That's God's nectar. Try that once with an open mind and you'll understand what the coffee bean was meant to do.

Yeah, I'm a native Texan too, and I started out drinking it black. There's a restaurant chain in SA called Las Palapas, (Mexican Restaurant) and their coffee is really good. We asked what it was and they said Douwe Egbert. We tried to get it but it was way too expensive. However, I just saw an ad on the internet and it didn't seem to be that expensive. I may have to try and get some.

I wonder if the attack the other day would count as an "Anti-Chick-Fil" protest?

Haven't kept up with this protest. How'd it work out?

Starbucks has been the object of a boycott since announcing support for same sex marraige in Washington state this past January. They have taken a hit financially and asked the organizer of "Starbucks Appreciation Day" editor Kirsten Ott Palladino to change the name and include other companies that support same sex marraige. They did not want the spotlight on their policy after watching the overwhelming crowds that showed up to support Chick Fil A's opposite policy. That's why the name was changed to "National Marraige Equality Day". Starbucks was rattled enough to issue a statement that they willl not be financially supporting the proposal on the ballot in November to legalize same sex marraige in Washington state. There is also an effort underway to boycott General Mills for the same reasons.

This sounds like a "hint" to businesses, stay out of politics. What you hear and read in the news may not be the the whole story or represent the folks in the "hinterlands" real thoughts.
