3 dead in Brown County RV park shooting after dispute over dogs

~ Summarized by me~

A couple in their 50s from out of state had 2 dogs that evidently were wandering to a neighboring space in a trailer park, and relieving themselves. The man staying in that space warned the couple about their dogs wandering to his space and said he would shoot them. The dogs wandered over again, argument ensued, and as the owner was walking away the suspect retrieved a handgun and shot him in the back, then shot him again at close range. The wife came screaming out of their trailer and the suspect chased her down and shot her.

A responding officer from Early, TX PD arrived and the suspect now had a rifle and opened fire on the officer. The suspect had cover behind a tree and the officer couldn't get a shot on him. Another resident saw what was happening and from an estimated 165 yards took a shot with his .357 revolver hitting the suspect in the leg, knocking him down. He hit him four more times and the officer hit him 6 times with his patrol rifle killing him.

This is why I own and carry a gun. This is why I would own an assault rifle (165 yards with a revolver...wowzers!).

Sometimes a 'zombie' gets pissed and shoots your dogs, you, and your wife. Will you be ready?

And this is why we need better leash laws.

Honestly, 165 yards. Hell of a shot. He hit him 4 times. Amazing. That guy must go to the range.

People need to realize that even if an Officer requests your assistance, his badge DOES NOT cover your actions. I'm not saying I wouldn't help an officer in need, but you have to realize that the police department is not going to cover your liability if you act in assistance of the officer.

Where did you get the 165 yard revolver shot from? I didn't see that in the article and find it incredibly difficult to believe that he got four rounds on target at that distance with a revolver. Maybe he did, but I'd like to see a little more verification.

The range was the shooter's guess and like you I doubt he was at that distance to go four for four. I hate guns but I am glad they bagged him before he could hurt anyone else. This guy had to have a history.

Just from the video, it was the man's estimation. I don't have forensics info.

Okay. I didn't have a chance to see the video (at work). I have a very hard time believing the shots were at that distance, unless he was shooting a .357 caliber RIFLE.

In Arizona you are exempt from liability if an officer requests your assistance.

That is the only state I've ever heard that about, RT. I know that is NOT the case in any of the New England and Northeastern states, personally.

So a guy threatens to shoot his neighbor's dog, and then shoots his neighbor, and this is a justification for loose gun laws? :lamo

And I'm throwing the BS flag on the 165 yd. pistol shot.

....then shoots his neighbor's wife as she's running away....then pins down the responding cop...and then is shot by an armed civilian 4 times...

....and this is a justification for loose gun laws?
Yes. It is a perfect example.

That cop can be glad it was not me helping him. I own a 357 four inch barrel and at 165 yards I would have had better success throwing my pistol at the bad guy. But thank you citizen for helping our protectors. I am proud of you.

Why? Hickok45 does it all day with damn near every pistol hitting that Gong @ 200 yards. Here's a 230 yard shot w/ a baby Glock (smaller, more recoil):

In marksmanship as all things, practice makes perfect.

What I have seen with reporters,
They don't know the difference between a pistol or rifle.

USA Today Neither, they said the Aurora shooter's glock was a 40mm...

I mean THIS is a 40mm:

165 yards with revolver.... dayum. If true that's some mighty fine shooting.

I could HIT something at 165 yards I expect... but four for four under actual-shooting-incident stress? That's pretty amazing.

I've never shot a handgun at anything beyond 100 yards. I figured that was what rifles were for.

One big difference here. This guy is not in a fire fight. However, that guy shoots extremely well.

Hickok45 is retired law enforcement, and in any firefight i'd hate to be against someone as practiced as him.

Some of my best friends are zombies and they are starving because there are so few brains. Just saying....

People shooting each other over where a dog takes a **** is not a strong argument for lose gun laws. I mean who the hell looks at a story of a man and his wife being killed by some wacko because of where their dog ****, then said wacko getting into a shootout with a police officer and another random citizen where the wacko ends up dead and thinks "The 2nd Amendment working as intended."

This story is just sickening, and its almost equally sickening how someone can ignore half of it and try to turn it into just a story about a hero who assists a police officer with his gun. This is a story about a man who got into an argument with another guy about a dog pooping near his RV, then the story continues with said man going back to his vehicle, grabbing a pistol and shooting the other guy in the back as he walks away and then again while he's on the ground. It continues with the shooter chasing down and executing the man's wife who came out of the RV screaming. Absolutely horribly sickening, and you look at this story and think it supports gun rights?

They argued, and got a (handgun), and shot the male subject as he was going away, and shot him again on the ground, at pretty close range. The subject’s wife came out of the trailer and started screaming. He chased her down, shot her, and shot her while she was down also.”

It's a story about Po White Trash acting like Po White Trash, basically.... except for the guy that aided the officer.

I study history as an avocation. In the 1500's London was so crime-ridden it was worth your life to try to travel across the city after dark. The wealthy, if they had to go somewhere after dark, travelled with servants who held lanterns on poles and carried arquebuses (early matchlock firearms) with the slow-match lit and ready to fire. Po White Trash in 1500s London killed each other quite frequently, often over stupid ****, mostly with belt-knives and daggers or whatever came to hand.

Human nature remains human nature... but many historians believe that the modern era has far less crime than many other periods in history, including much of the medieval and rennaisance eras.

My point? This kind of **** happens whether people have guns or not, and it isn't anything new. Guns do make it easier.... but guns also make it easier for smaller weaker men, women, older persons and those who are ill or partly disabled to defend themselves also. There are postives and negatives. On the whole, I believe the positives outweigh the negatives and that available data supports that conclusion.

Trust me, no one here is surprised.

Absolutely hopeless, no logical way to ever get through here. *Placed on the disregard list*
