[h=1]British Gas announces new finding in Red Sea[/h]
The Petroleum Ministry said that the British Gas Company made a commercial gas finding in the Red Sea that has the capacity to pump 40 million cubic feet per day.Petroleum Minister Abdullah Ghorab told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the new finding’s limited output capacity may increase with the digging of new wells. The new finding will enter the production phase in three months, Ghorab said, adding that El Borolos Gas Company, a joint operation between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, PG Egypt and Petronas, will take on the works in the deep waters of the West Delta concession.

umm, that should help the balance sheets in several industries...

Now, if they can just create a pipeline back to the UK before winter, our fuel bills in the UK are ridiculous and it seems the Russians have us by the short black and curlies over gas.

That is one hell of a long pipeline!

Does the UK get any gas from Russia?

I know it does from Norway, and that the UK is now importing oil when it used to be an exporter, but I dont think it is getting any gas from Russia

They won't let the US drill for oil.
We might hurt ourselves.

Why is it that the US is producing more oil and gas now then it has for I believe 30 years?

You are mistaken.

Thanks to Obama, We are producing much less gas and oil on federal lands now than we were when George Bush was president.

Barack Obama has vowed on several occasions to use "cap and trade" to destroy the oil and gas industry in the United States.

The thirst the world has for oil reminds me of junkies in Compton. We know there is nothing healthy about oil, but we just keep looking for our fix.

OH please.. rig counts are up 20% in the US and for the first time in decades we are exporting refined product.

When the ppb is high.. there is money for explorationand drilling.

Not the greatest of comparisons.

What do you propose to use in place of it?

Solar and wind will not be viable energy candidates for 50-60 more years.

Little thing called electricity.

The problem with solar concentrators and wind turbines is that they do not produce power at night.

Also, "smart grids" for delivering electricity produced by these sources to our metropolitan cities must be developed at a very high cost. They presently do not presently exist.

People said the same of gas stations and now they're as common as condoms.

That's because they needed a place to sell all the condoms. It has nothing to do with automotive petroleum products...

A better candidate would be a short pipeline to an onshore gas liquefaction terminal, to fill up tankers and transport the liquified product to other terminals for re-gassification.

Pulling some of the teeth of the Russian bear is all for the good.

You don't think so? Try cutting the world off from oil for one day and cut off a crackhead from crack for a day. See how ****ed up they both get.

The former happens to be necessary for the maintenance of a large chunk of the modern world as we know it, and currently has no viable alternative on a comparable scale. It's not a habit formed on a whim, It's necessary at this stage, and unlike drugs, the benefits thus far have far outweighed the harm.

This is demonstrably false; see - solar, wind and electricity.

It is a habit on which we are dependent.

It is a habit on which we are dependent.
Solar, wind, and electricity could not simply replace oil at this stage, given the fact that the vast majority of our transportation is configured to accept oil only, not to mention the fact that a sizable chunk of our machinery and manufacturing industry depends on it as well. Re-configuring our Infrastructure to accept such changes would hardly be an overnight process, nor would it be cost effective in the short term. Alternative energy is a necessity, and should be pursued, but further advancements and study is required in order for those methods to faze out oil as our primary energy source.

Still quite a poor comparison for the reasons I mentioned previously.

The US as a whole is producing more oil and gas is it not?

Which is what I stated is it not?
