Canadians Now Richer Than Americans

Re: For the First Time, Canadians Now Richer Than Americans. Thanks, Obama!

Canada is basically like one huge Vermont or Oregon, its a country that as far less religious than the United States, more socially liberal, with strong environmental regulations, much stronger banking regulations than we have, a universal health care system, progressive taxation, tougher gun laws, and the most right wing conservatives there are about where Susan Collins sits here.... So this is what the Republicans now want for America? Sign me up then.

Re: For the First Time, Canadians Now Richer Than Americans. Thanks, Obama!

wow no dispute of my claim at all.

read keynes theary, not butchered versions by wannabe economists theories.keynes called taxe cuts for the rich politically motivated.but in no way made keynesian economics invalid.

and the part where it says keynesians believe targeting those with less income favors more for tax cuts, explain 85% of the bush tax cuts going to poor and middle class, you cant.

your democrat masters have already told you the snarl words to use and you have failed to verify if they are even true, you just blindly believe their words and skewed statistics.

What part of "Proponents of Keynesian economics and related theories often criticize tax rate cuts for the wealthy as being "trickle down," arguing tax cuts directly targeting those with less income would be more economically stimulative. Keynesians generally argue for broad fiscal policies that are directed across the entire economy, not toward one specific group." didn't you understand?

Study: Bush Tax Cuts Favor Wealthy

"President Bush's tax cuts since 2001 have shifted more of the tax burden from the nation's rich to middle-class families, according to a study released Friday by the Congressional Budget Office.

The tax rate declined across all income levels — but more so in the top brackets, the report said.

The study found that the effective tax rate for the top 1 percent of taxpayers dropped from 33 percent in 2001 to 26.7 percent this year, a decline of 19 percent. The middle 20 percent of taxpayers saw a decline of 4 percent."

Re: For the First Time, Canadians Now Richer Than Americans. Thanks, Obama!

Which part do you disagree with?

Do you disagree with this statement?

The federal government spent more taxpayer dollars than ever before in 2011 to subsidize Americans. The average individual who relies on Washington could receive benefits valued at $32,748, more than the nation’s average disposable personal income ($32,446).

How about this statement.

As of now, 70 percent of the federal government’s budget goes to individual assistance programs, up dramatically in just the past few years. However, research shows that private, community, and charitable aid helps individuals rise from their difficulties with better success than federal government handouts. Plus, local and private aid is often more effectively distributed.

These are well-established facts, by the way!

And it is a horse**** argument!

The reason is quite logical... there are more OLD PEOPLE! More old people = more SS = more government handouts in a statistic.. so in other words, it is partisan bull**** as usual.

Liberals forget how much of a fiscal conservative GWB was.

Canadian health care mooches like no tomorrow on American R+D.

This is not a minor point. The U.S. is for all intents and purposes subsidizing healthcare elsewhere in the world. Not to mention the cost savings a nation has when someone else is footing the bill for its security.

If only it wasn't so freaking cold.

Bull**** alarm. Who claims this? Oh yea the big-pharma industry... The same industry that uses far more in marketing than they use in R&D! Sorry but it is utter bull**** and can not be backed up by any independent source.

What happened to the OP? Did this thread not go as planned? :)

I am quite sure he will come confidently back in with sources from various blogs or think tanks to declare intellectual victory with unexamined information (so long as it agrees with what he already believes!), per usual.

Wait, so the Canadians, who suffer from a Socialist banking & healthcare system, are RICHER than the average American?

that tells you something don't it.

I'd say the above is not quite accurate. We certainly are big polluters, and our policies -- especially under our current PM, Stephen Harper-- are seriously lacking. Our current PM's agenda reeks of Neocon ideals. Unfortunately, he got a majority government because our opposing parties lacked decent leadership at the time. I just hope that Canadians will smarten up and vote him out of office next election.

33-26.7 = 19? That's some funky math.

Who claims this? All kinds of people claim America spends more on military than anyone else.

There's more to it than that. Mainly the fact that the US government is utter crap, and we're the only nation in the world that still acts as though the Cold War is still on like Red Dawn.

Definitely. Canadian health care mooches like no tomorrow on American R+D. The same goes for defense.

Which also proves that private medical research companies can still thrive in countries that have universal health care systems.

...and we're the only nation in the world that still acts as though the Cold War is still on like Red Dawn.

It is.

They just renamed it to the War on Terror.

Only this time it'll never stop. They just find another group of people to label terrorists to justify their defense contracts.

Let's see, they have the same land mass and resource distribution the US started out with, with one tenth the population. Add to that they didn't use or sell off their resources early on, so they have them to sell now, at higher price. As mentioned they are subsidized for drugs and defence.

The only wonder here is that it took them so long to achieve this.

Well it's looking like they will it will probably end up with an NDP majority at this rate.

We didn't have the leadership but the Liberal governments finally managed to revolutionize Canada into what it is today.

A typo does not change the point that the wealthy received bigger tax rate cuts under the Bush tax cuts.

WRONG. That is pure Obama BS, the rich may have received larger AMOUNTS of FIT savings but not larger RATE cuts; you can lie, but not that well: CARPE DIEM: Comparing Income Taxes: Clinton vs. Bush

Clinton lowered the capital gains FIT rate from 28% to 20%, Bush later lowered it from 20% to 15%.

Can you blame us? Red Dawn was so cool. Remember when the RPG went through the opening and didn't down the helicopter? I was like, oh ****!

Non-cynically, the war is always on. And if you ever catch yourself thinking it's not, that just means the players are really good at hiding it.

“In my view, health is a business in the United States in quite a different way than it is elsewhere,” says Tom Sackville, who served in Margaret Thatcher’s government and now directs the IFHP. “It’s very much something people make money out of. There isn’t too much embarrassment about that compared to Europe and elsewhere.”

“We end up with the benefits of your investment,” Sackville says. “You’re subsidizing the rest of the world by doing the front-end research.” (emphasis added)

Ooh, that needs attention in the healthcare forum. (Maybe already did the rounds countless times, I just haven't seen it lately!)

On the other hand every bartender and waitress in Florida and Arizona knows that Canadians don't tip worth a ****, eh?

Everywhere I go in North Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota, the same comment floats.
