Indeed - I was being sarcastic. . . but it's silly to think that "Someone who's attractive has way more options than someone who's ugly" - very not true.
20/20, 60 minutes, and or others have done video segments showing the beauty bias at work.
They put skinny women in fat suits, they didn't get hired. send in the same woman without the fat suit, they get hired.
They put men with identical applications and resumes in front of personnel managers, only the good looking ones got interviews.
They even tested corporate America with applications that had no clear indication of race, just hints of being of color.
White still prevails....
There IS looks bias, skinny bias, even tall bias....Corporate level managers are on average a lot taller than the rest of us.
Even paretns have bias.....In my family, there was one very attractive sister, the oldest, a beauty, could have graced the pages of Playboy, and one un-attractive boy, me.....the other3 were reasonably good looking, if not very smart. Our mother was certifiable, she treated the beauty, and the ugly, bad....the rest were OK in her book. Justice prevailed, tho, only the oldest sister and myself made good money. It was almost a pleasure to see how Mom tried to treat us in later years, hinting and hoping to get some of our money. She didn't get any money from me.....
I interviewed within my company for a training position, competition wasn't much, or so I thought. I had more education, training, experience by far. My main competition had NO college, I had 3 years, most of it relevant to the job....he had minimal maintenance experience compared to me. Job was Instrument Tech trainer at a nuclear power plant. I asked the guy who got the job, a friend, he said he was told that they liked his "image"...he also told me that I should get some practice "sucking up", that I was bad at it....have to admit, it is true.
There is also the family and friends network. I left one interview thinking I had the job, but a 20 year old kid right out of votech school got the job. I had actual experience on the equipment the group was responsible for. Turns out the kid was the hiring manager's nephew.... to add insult to injury, I was told that I did not have enough relevant experience.
I was able to ram THAT down the hiring manager's throat, figuratively speaking. He had to write an apology letter, not that it changed anything....
