Homeowner Jailed for Hosting Bible Study

Once again, you have proven yourself to be one of my favorite posters here at Debate Politics, to read.

You should sell your sperm to stupid women. The median IQ would jump 20 points.
Why aren't you sanctioned for this post? Is this any worse than me saying some village lost its idiot?

And reported. I sure hope you get the same punishment you constantly give me.
I suspect that it will be me who gets punished. Anyone placing bets?

Is it still possible to get 50 people out to see the one term Marxist flexible president Barrack Hussein Obama? What do we have at this point, about another 100 or so days until this reign of (t)error is over?

why are you using this as just another opportunity to bash him? are there not enough political threads in which to do so?

Absolutely. But Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for the Native Americans and their peyote worship. Do you mind if a few of them park their horse in your yard?

I don't mind, as long as their horses don't bother the other animals in the yard. First time their horses bother the home animals, then it's time for that horse to go.

50? Yeah, that's still possible. :rofl

A person would have to be a total retard to not catch it. The best part is that he'll complain and go "it's cause I'm a black conservative ain't it!" - as if Blackdog didn't exist. apdst is kind of like those white kids who pretend they're black when they're like 17 and listen to DMX. The only difference is that apdst is a grown man and still pretends for a far dumber reason. He knows if he voices his opinion as the white guy he is, he'll be called racist. So he pretends to be black in hopes we wont catch it.

So what you are saying is that he is the opposite of Malibu's Most Wanted? LOL.

If apdst was Pat Buchanan and Jamie Kennedy was actually funny, he'd be the opposite of Malibu's Most Wanted. ;)

Want some truth or would some of you rather foam at the mouth and claim religious oppression because Fox News told you so? I live in Arizona. This is a total non-story here. It's a fabrication to attract dumbasses who are ignorant and lazy enough to believe it.

Salman listed his "church" with the Arizona Corporation Commission as being located at his home address!

All kinds of codes apply to the "business" location. Michael Hashem Salman is as full of crap as Fox News, Voice of the Martyrs and all the other bull**** sources.

um.....he changed his middle-name, to "Hashem"?

that is the common name used by Jews for God, when not praying.

does this guy think he is a God?

Salman has fought the battle in court but has been ruled against many times, most recently in 2010 where the court stated that the state is not prohibiting him from running a church or worship services at the location, but rather the state just requires Salman to abide by proper fire and zoning codes.
Pastor jailed for holding home bible studies - San Diego Christianity & Culture | Examiner.com

seems this is about code violations
not about violating anyone's right to assembly or religion
he should cure the code violations and conduct his weekly parties, Bible optional

jail time for this appears excessive
fine him for the violations
add penalties and interest for any unpaid fines
then get a judgment and levy against the property
he will either comply, continue to pay heavy fines or have his property sold to cover delinquent fines/penalties/interest

Probably not. He is, however, a convicted felon, (aggravated assault). He petitioned to have his 2nd Amendment Rights restored last year and was denied by the court. He has also been involved in a fistful of civil cases including harassment on two occasions. Salam is a piece of work and is apparently a regular pain in the ass. If he is anything he is a huckster and a conman. He's a perfect shill for Beck, Fox News and Voice of the Martyrs and all those dickwits who believe in them.

The codes are the violation of someones right to assembly and religion.

How is it any different than poll taxes? We should not have to jump throw hoops to satisfy those who do not like our assembly, or our religion, or our speech.

What black history month meetings? Dude - you're usually pretty good at comparisons but this is ridiculous. This was a guy trying to have a church at his house and violating city ordinances in doing so. That's it. It's clear cut. You don't need to make hyperbolic comparisons to get your point across. If he had complied with laws regarding such regularly held events (which I can assume include safety codes, noise laws, etc.) I'm sure the city would have let him have his way. However he didn't. In fact - he had 67 such violations.

I agree with you... I was just pointing out that had it been another hyper sensitive group that was targeted (on the left) we would be hearing about it just as well.

Don't know what the code violations were but most of them are to keep the city/town working in an orderly fashion. If it was because he was runnign a church in a residential area not zoned for a church then yeah he shoudl get crap for it. Sorry but If i own a house and my neighbour starts running a church out of it with 40-50 people weekly then I'd be pissed as this jerk is reducing my propertyy values causing traffic problems etc. and forgetting the love thy neighbor crap by being a total jerk. If the city created new codes just to persecute this giy then I think he has been wronged but If they are on the books before he started his "bible study group" then he is being a jerk plain and simple he has no more right to disregard the rules than anyone else whether it be religious motivation or not on his part.

Except what you are saying is out of context. It doesn't apply to the Michael Hashem Salam. The man violated a load of civil codes in building a church in his backyard and applied for tax exemptions while claiming that he didn't build a church in his backyard, but rather a building for a few friends to meet which at the same time registering his church's name with the Arizona Corporation Commission and using his home address.

Sound rather confusing as if there might be some double dealing going on? Bingo! It isn't about religion. This convicted felon has a history of trying to game the system.

We have the data.

We have the right to our religion, we have the right to assemble, we have the right to speak... Pick one, any one, it doesn't matter.

But you don't have the right to violate zoning laws and city code to exercise any other right.

Kind of like needing a permit to arrange a protest on public property, you know.

What some people are saying is that they've never really had a problem with city codes until somebody protested city codes in the name of the Lord. Same codes applied everywhere, but when you say the Jesus then the codes suddenly become hateful and anti-religious.

So if you Salam decides to dig a slit trench in his yard for his friends, who drop by to worship, and his friend use the open trench as a bathroom that would be fine with some posters here as long as the violation was in the name of the Lord? Oh, and while all that is going on Salam registers the building with the state as a church, but whines and boo hoos to the public and Beck and Fox News that it isn't a church.

Everybody's got a persecution complex.

attending church doesn't make you a christian any more than standing in a garage makes you an automobile....

lots of people use churches to scam the gullible public, but even scammers should have to obey the rules designed to protect the rest of the public.
