(I think this is a very good sign. It would be very healthy for Libya's future.)

Libya’s election hints at blow to Islamist rise in Arab Spring wake
By Associated Press, Updated: Sunday, July 8, 8:18 PM

TRIPOLI, Libya — Libya’s first nationwide elections in nearly five decades brought hints Sunday of an Arab Spring precedent: Western-leaning parties making strides over Islamist rivals hoping to follow the same paths to power as in neighbors Egypt and Tunisia.

While final results from Saturday’s parliamentary election could still be days away under a two-tier selection system, unofficial and partial counts from Libya’s biggest cities suggested liberal factions were leading the Muslim Brotherhood and allies in a possible first major setback to their political surge following last year’s uprisings.

If the Libyan trend holds — which is still far from certain — it would challenge the narrative of rising Islamist power since the fall of Western-allied regimes from Tunis to Cairo. It also could display the different political dynamics in Libya, where tribal loyalties run deep and groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood at times cooperated with the rule of Moammar Gadhafi.

Fyi......................

Hmm, no comment from all those who defended the terrorist dictator Gaddafi against US intervention, claiming it would least to an Islamist takeover? Strange.

I was against US intervention not because i "sided with the terrorist dictator Gaddafi", i simply believe that the US and or NATO is not the policemen of the world and have no right to intervene in other countries civil wars and or revolutions.

But anyways i agree this is good news. A secular government is always a good/better government that favors progress. I just hope though they keep some of Gadaffi's progressive social policies.

So you agree this is good news and you are happy the regime is gone, but you think the entreaties of the very revolutionaries who brought this about makes the US an inappropriate policeman? I don't follow.

They were a tiny and decided minority, as clearly evidenced by the euphoric reaction in Benghazi and the near universal acclaim that the Libyan opposition council gave to the intervention.
Actually not so much a good amount of rebels and the interm government and the revolutionary council rejected and called for no foreign intervention

That isn't true, and in fact they made numerous pleas in the UN, in the media, and in closed door meetings. The number and stature of those who opposed intervention was incredibly small. It is also a fact to state that assistance was accepted eagerly by almost all involved in the fighting.

If they go the secular route maybe something good will come of it. Time will tell. I'm not gonna hold my breath. We need to give it 10 years or so to really see. It may turn out to be a good thing or it may not.

Actually it is if you do some research.. They made numerous statements and pleas for no intervention by foreign countries.

I never claimed it was

I never claimed it was

I have done research, and after the Gaddafi offensive began calls for intervention were never in the minority among the leadership of the opposition.
