Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’[W:74]

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

Your opinion of me has no bearing on reality. I am unconcerned with the opinions of my inferiors.

No matter your qualifications or training, opinions are immeasurable. That is to say that an ignorant man is a deaf man even though his ears work. Or a man sitting in a tower cannot hear.

Fine, fine... whatever.

Now, where is this thesis? I would like to read it.

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

This might have been asked and answered elsewhere but: Does anyone think the unofficial name "The God Particle" will cause all sorts of 'confusion' amongst the creationist crowd? Confusion over the particle not just the normal levels of confusion?

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

That's why you put in an intercom system.

Still waiting for that thesis.

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

So the Higgs Field is the new Ether?

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

Ikari, you are going to ignore my posts? Pathetic and disrespectful. You must have missed that class.

Which post? The one that can be paraphrased as "what if magic?"

I took some of my time to not be an imbecile and learn about the paper I found with Ikari's name on it. I suspect I found his thesis, although it could have just been the PRB article with his name foremost among the authors. Perhaps they rotate that privelege, as there were many other papers with the same names on them.

My response to this effort was:

Ok, fantastic, Tetsuo! あなたの知り合いを作るためにニース! A few comments come to mind, if I can recall them:
  1. Is the foundation/cause of the hydrostatic and shear deformation potentials, the binding energy of the exciton and the semiconductor brittleness, and the change in potentials, varying with indium, is -7 and -1.7 eV, respectively?
  2. I think this means "the effect of strain on the electronic structures of the dilute nitride semiconductor thin film structure" is that it can withstand shear and maintain the large, lower energy excitons which exhibit momentum of energy within the fine electronic structure, without transferring charge. Am I close?
  3. What is the speed of virtual photons through the structure?
  4. Is the momentum of virtual photons a vector?
  5. It is interesting that excitons have a long lifetime, isn't it?

cheers,
rasta

ps. what would happen if Allah turns off beta decay?

My final question does still stand, let me reask the question: "what would happen if somehow the beta decay function of the universe stopped working?"

You're asking a physicist about what would happen if the laws of physics fundamentally changed. I.E. "What if magic?"

Rejecting considerations, even if they do mention the supernatural, do not align well with the scientific method. I automatically suspect bias and political views regarding same. So we have scientists, with all the trappings, with closed minds. Super-duper!

Is there a Law which prevents that from happening?

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

I refuse to believe Ikari is that rude therefore there is something else going on. I suspect that Ikari is bull****ting us about having a PhD in Physics. He's just another technical marketer...

Your opinions are inconsequential to my degrees. I had to prove myself to my PhD committee, and I did. I have no need to prove anything to you. You don't have to believe that I have a PhD if you do not; it does not mean that I do not have one (in fact it's still here, even though you want to claim it's some form of BS). Your opinion has no bearing on reality whatsoever. Welcome to irrelevance. Population....you.

Jackass. I asked you straight-up questions and you are unwilling to respond to them.

You asked a ridiculous and unanswerable question. If you're going to magically change the laws of physics, the results are going to be whatever your magic says the results will be. What if people could shoot lasers out of their eyes? Well, then people could shoot lasers out of their eyes. This isn't a physics question anymore. Using physics words doesn't make it a physics question.

Then the jackass could have commented on the 5 points I did raise related to his paper, if he wrote it, and state that the last question was ridiculous, even though it is not.

I rephrased the question to remove the God of the Gaps. Not specifying how it would happen, but what would change about our universe if it did happen.

I guess they always come in pairs...

You aren't asking a question based in reality. Asking a "what if we changed this?" doesn't really get anywhere. It's nice, it's cute, but it doesn't help us advance our knowledge of the world around us - which is what science is for. Sorry if you don't like it, but I think we will manage.

Moderator's Warning:
This is a thread about the Higgs Boson. Let's not discuss other members in this thread. Let's definitely not call other users names, not troll with pictures, not anything else. Stick to the topic and keep it civil.

It's not so Godly since some/most physicists have been going on the assumption that it's the correct model for quite some time now. So detecting it really doesn't change anything.
