Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’[W:74]

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

I wish the media would stop referring to Higgs boson as the "God Particle". It's misleading and allows people who can barely spell physics to claim that there is proof of a magical creature called "god".

Personally, I've seen more atheists argue that if the "god particle" exists that there is no God or creator

Ignorance regarding the terminology can and does go both ways.

Heh... Up until now, I thought they were referring to the Higg's bosom particle and were referring to Penny Higgs' breasts.

Re: Scientists to unveil proof of ‘God particle’

I wonder if the results will support a O(12) dimensional string theory (E7 Lie group), supporting the unification of QCD and quantum gravity? That would give us 2 sets of 4 dimensional spacetimes (each set has 3 spacial dimensions and 1 time dimension so O(12) has 2 time dimensions), or 8 of the 12 dimensions, plus 4 compactified dimensions representing some interesting qualities of any particle and/or field and their interactions. (truth, moral action, causality link, generative thought)

I doubt it. In the fullness of time, we will finally come to accept the fact that gravity is not even a fundamental force of nature, but rather a side effect of a single force.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. - Albert Einstein

...that and ascribing to something as absurd as string theory just to make gravity fit into
a universal paradigm.

Yet the whole point of the Higgs mechanism is to give quantum fields mass, through their interaction with the Higgs field. So if you are talking about super-symmetries above GCD, then of course all 4 known forces are one force. So all forces are side effects of spontaneous symmetry breaking of a 12 dimensional Calabi-Yau knot.

Knot necessarily...

The math works, mostly, although O(12) hasn't been investigated thoroughly. That the math works is no small feat of psycho-spiritual magic.

Yeah, that's why when it comes to science it's best to listen to scientists.

That's the Grand Unified Theory and is the "holy grail", if you will, of physics.

Huh..I read this same article over two years ago with the same picture...whats the purpose of retreading the same story...I dont mean you sig...the author

If you read the story you would know that the announcement concerning the discovery (or evidence for) comes tomorrow (7/4).

Gee, do you really thinks so, Iki?

I think a lot more than you're capable of, yes.

That may be so. Unfortunately, these added hours of contemplation have yielded so little evidence of intelligence.

Well when you get a PhD in the hard sciences, we can start to discuss whether or not you're on my level. Until then, we shall just accept the evidence of years of posting that you are not even in the same ballpark as me.

We can start right now.

Incidentally, where did you get your PhD, the University of Phoenix?

Ikari, what is your field of specialty? Do you have any published articles I could read?

What makes you think that magic has anything to do with God?

Well, I've got some meat she could have...

(I'm sorry, I couldn't resist that set up).

Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics. I'm published in PRA and my thesis counts as a "publication" too

Interesting, I'd like to read it. Is it available online?
