Secret Service Takes Forks Away From Latinos At Obama Event

Ok, wow. Doesn't that say something, that there may have been a threat at a friendly event? Sure doesn't sound like the we are getting the entire story from MSM outlets on Obama popularity does it?

Again, and you probably missed it, but this is actually a Politico story. But you're right on one thing...It is the first that we have heard about that this happens. And to the group that just a week earlier he was out there with his cynical, political pandering with the end run around Congress (once again) to grant asylum to illegal aliens.

But thanks for showing yet again that you rarely actually read the threads, but rather just knee jerk your way into them with insults, and dumb assed provocations.

j-mac

Oh I'm sorry - I forgot you like to swim in conspiracy threads paraded as hard news. Carry on.

So, if it is so stupid to talk about this, if it is so dumb to wonder why it is that the SS is hypothesizing that a fork is a threat to the POTUS,

Admittedly I came off too harsh in my first post, and I regret that. I don't think talking about these kinds of things is stupid, but it frustrates me when people are too credulous of stories that should trigger skepticism. But I have little faith in the media to begin with, regardless of their political slant.

if you think that there are legitimate things to ding Obama on, then, why post in the thread?

I posted in this thread because I saw inaccuracies and it was about something I actually knew a thing or two about. That is a rare enough occasion that I can't help but jump on it when it happens. :)

Why waste your progressive time on a message board where people are going to disagree strongly with your view?

I started posting at DP BECAUSE I wanted to converse with people who disagree with my views. I want to have my views challenged. What good is it in holding a belief if it can't stand up to rigorous examination? For example, since posting here I have found my arguments for gun control to be lacking and have thus changed my stance on the subject to one that most progressives would disagree with. Posting on a board where everyone agrees with you is boring and unproductive.

Why not point out to us what it is that you think is legitimate criticism of Obama?

I'd be interested in hearing that.

I am fairly certain that I have criticized his policies more than I have championed them since posting here. I have to be a bit careful that my criticism doesn't cross the line into contemptuous language because I am a military officer and, while I post anonymously, it wouldn't be that difficult to track me down.

So, just some of my personal criticisms of this administration:

- Drone signature strikes (I adamantly believe these create more terrorists than kill)
- On health care he didn't even attempt to go for the single payer option. Instead he went for the individual mandate, which I think is arguably unconstitutional
- He ran on a promise of transparency. He hasn't lived up to that promise. For example, I think he is wrong to not cooperate with the Congressional Fast and Furious investigation
- He orders the killings of US citizens overseas without any kind of judicial oversight.
- He failed to close Gitmo
- He signed the NDAA of 2012 which further erodes civil liberties

That is just off the top of my head. There are others.

Oh sweet Jesus this has to be one of the dumbest threads I have seen. While this doesn’t happen at every single event, it does happen often. In one instance I was at a banquet. Just before the President made his brief appearance they came around and picked up all the silverware. When he left they rolled the silverware back out.

A couple things that make my experience particularly notable:

1. All of us at the banquet were embassy employees, which meant we all had security clearances or were married to people with security clearances, and still had to give up the silverware.
2. The President who came wasn’t even a sitting President, but a former one.

Now, I have also been at events where we didn’t have to do that. I am not certain what the determining factors are, and the Secret Service sure as hell isn’t going to enlighten us on that, but it certainly wasn’t due to ethnicity. And even aside from all of that, the President doesn’t dictate security procedures.

There are plenty of legitimate faults to find with the President. Why must people resort to the most asinine non-stories?

From the start I thought this whole thread seemed fishy.

It is interesting that they removed your silverware and then returned it. But if one has to go through a metal detector it would seem odd once you got in they give you knives and forks. So I guess it may be a measure they used.

There was a failed attempt here to make it sound like this was the first time this had ever been done and it was done because they were hispanics. And we all know Mexicans carry knives, right? lol

But this will be minor compared to the crap the Super Pacs are going to shove down everyone's throat this coming campaign season. Just because they say it on the tv set does not make it factual.

I don't get it. It's not the first Obama event directed at the Hispanic demographic. One event that just happens to be Hispanic oriented and this happens; all of a sudden it's a race thing. Good job FOX Nation, you've proven your "fair and balanced" slogan once again.

Politico ran the story; Fox just picked up on it.

Good Job, Hatuey, for the demonstration of how fair (and attentive) you are.

Regardless of where this story came from am amazed how many were gloating over this so quickly. It sounded to be half-truth from the get go but so many swallowed the hook and were swimming wildly with it.

It is like the birth certificate issue with Obama. One would think with the millions and millions the Republican party spent on campaigning they would have a professional investigation into it. And they probably did but they also know just let the rumor fly and you are going to put doubt into some of the half brains in our country. It works too.

People need to be careful which hook they are going to bite onto and not gloat too much as in the end it makes you look like a fool.

Ah so now FOX Nation picked up on the story. Here is the Politico story:

Secret Services confiscates cutlery at Obama event - POLITICO.com

....

A Secret Service spokesman confirmed that the agency made the request, but said such requirements are common at large events where the president speaks at about the same time people are dining.

...

In other words, the announcement at the Latino officials’ event may have been unusual, but the removal of the silverware usually takes place without anyone realizing it’s a security measure.

...

However, it’s known that the Secret Service adjusts security depending on the size of the crowd and how much officials know about who’s in attendance. At some events, guests must pass through magnetometers. At others, they don’t.

So there you have it - 3 different times where Politico clearly lays out that this is not UNCOMMON or anything out of the ordinary. Now - you ready for this Nota? - well I know you're not cause you'll scurry along like you usually do. Here's the FOX Nation story:

Secret Service Takes Forks Away From Latinos At Obama Event - Obama Event - Fox Nation

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. --Does a fork or dinner knife pose an unacceptable danger to President Barack Obama?

One wouldn’t think so, given the hundreds of lunches and dinners he’s attended ranging from state dinners to political fundraisers to run-of-the-mill stops on the rubber-chicken circuit.

However, at one such lunch Friday afternoon, guests heard an unusual announcement that they needed to hand over their silverware for security reasons.

“It’s very important that you use your utensils as soon as possible,” National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials board member Raquel Regalado told about 1000 delegates at the group’s annual conference.

That's it. Nothing else.

What do you notice missing from the Politico story?

- Mentions of the SS saying there's nothing out of the ordinary here.
- Mentions by the people running the event that this isn't uncommon.
- Mentions that this is something that would have been done anyways at similar events.

Now what do you notice that has been added to the story FOX News supposedly picked up on? Oh I know! I know! The whole "SS takes forks away from Latinos" bit. That is pretty good. I mean its' catchy. It's nowhere near as boring as: SS takes cutlery away as they would have done anyway. In either case, you're way too much of a dishonest FOX News apologist for me to care to humiliate your asinine comments further. But I will leave you with this - whenever you feel like accusing me of not reading the source material I criticize, please make sure it's on one of those days where I have the flu or something. That's about the only way I wouldn't take the time to read what I decide to comment on.

--------

PS: You're more than welcome to show me how the clear OMISSION of such vital pieces of information could have slipped FOX News but not Politico who supposedly is where "FOX News" picked up this story or as we call it in the media world: copy pasted the first 3 paragraphs and then ignored the rest.

A threat... okay I can buy that. Wow... whoever those guy are (or are supposed to be according to the secret service)... they must be super spy types to use forks.

So, Obama has pissed off his base so badly that they can't even trust that in a room full of democrats he is safe? Wow, that says it all people.

j-mac

Only the most densest of persons would blame the delegates - it was the SS that did it, what part of that did you not understand?

From the Politico source:

Milien declined to comment on the discrepancy. However, it’s known that the Secret Service adjusts security depending on the size of the crowd and how much officials know about who’s in attendance. At some events, guests must pass through magnetometers. At others, they don’t.

I remember this one time a few guys took over a few planes with box cutters a few years ago. They weren't super spy types. Just regular dudes with box cutters. You remember how many they killed?

You should refrain from calling someone stupid when starting your post with: "Only the most densest of persons..." lol

Super Fail!

The intellectual dishonesty is unusually strong with you tonight. Or it could just be that you don't know how to read what is being said. In either case it all brings back flashes of your posts of evolution.

As it is with you, considering that there were no SS agents present aboard those aircraft to protect anyone.

I don't understand how you can tell another poster that he Super Failed when this whole trumped up thread was yours? I mean really.
I would be a little embarassed myself if I took this hook and bait and ran with it. Unbelievable.

Wow! How insulting....These people were not some mob off the street. Not the much demonized by liberal/Progressives TEA Party. No, these were Demo, delegates there to hear Obama speak, and have lunch. Apparently, the Secret Service feels that the greatest threat doesn't come from the political opposition to Obama, but from within....And they feel that a bad re-enactment of West Side Story is how it would go down....
So now tell us again libs, how Obama is the hispanic choice?
j-mac

That is simply a lie. Please show where utensils are removed before any other President spoke.

j-mac

No, you posted a portion that has a SS agent saying that is the case, or making the claim if you will...Now I am waiting for the proof....So either put up, or ..... Well, you know the rest.

j-mac

So, Obama has pissed off his base so badly that they can't even trust that in a room full of democrats he is safe? Wow, that says it all people.
j-mac

BWHAAAAAA! HAHAHAHA! Ooooh, real classy.....Cry me a river....Tell us why then this happened?

j-mac
Was Rubio in attendance? Was Obama scared that Rubio would attack him with a spork? Face it, Obama pandered to the hispanic vote with his abuse of power declaration, then goes in and insults them by taking their silverware....What a joke this guy is.

By all means, please don't let pesky little things like facts get in your way of your agenda.

There will always be a few gullible types to join you .

That's not what's being questioned though. Maybe you should learn to read an entire thread before jumping in on it with your outdated one liners.

Thank you for your opinion....It's probably a good thing then that you can take your frustration with the current administration, and people that disagree with your progressive stances out on the internet rather than in a face to face discussion.
