Sandusky Verdict

Justice ... yet not really ... how can justice ever be served on this evil man.

Yes, my next question ... How could his wife not know?

Anyone that knew or suspected this evil man was raping young boys is complicit in the evil crime.

Disgusting ... and he lied until the end. I kept hoping he would be remorseful and and admit and take his sentence like a man and stop the charade.

The man is a psychopath so by definition he is not capable of remorse.

You don't get away with this kind of thing as long as he did without lot's of people knowing about it and remaining silent including his lying wife who should go to prison too.

I totally agree. Some people will say that she is old and has suffered disgrace to her family but I say BS. Do the crime then do the time. Put her fat arse in prison. Time to shake up the cover crew.

Here's a new flash.. if you think a child is being abused, tell law enforcement, not the boss.

This is one area I disagree, and do not indict JoePa.

As 00timh explained, Paterno fulfilled his obligation - he reported the claim to Graham Spangler, president of PSU. Also, he never saw or heard a thing. It was Mike McQueary, an assistant coach, who came to JoePa and made a claim that he thought he heard something suspicious in the shower. Not only was he dealing with uncertain information, he was dealing with secondhand uncertain information.

You can't just run around and accuse people of things without proof, and especially not this. This is a career-ender, even if the accusation is completely unfounded and totally ludicrous. You don't just "shake" a claim like this; once made public, your life as you know it is over.

Situations need to be handled with a lot more tact and delicacy, and not just a "go find the nearest badge" mentality.

Also, JoePa did everything he could to stop this within his own bounds. As stated by tim, he was not on staff anymore, and JoePa personally banned him from ever stepping on foot to Happy Valley.

Tell that to the victims and their families.

While I have defended the late Joe Paterno in this scandal.... and until there is concrete proof that he was part of the cover up (and he was the 1st to actually mention something was wrong) I will continue to do so.

Defending a well-respected man until the very end was exactly what exacerbated this problem.

So instead you'd make victims out of everyone else without burden of proof?

Go ahead and do that. We'll see how many slander cases you get put on the cross for in civil court.

Not an excuse for his wife... but often times people will live in a denial. She likely choose not to know, or to want to know. So many people wonder how a spouse or parent didn't know when it was so plainly obvious.... its because they did not want to know.

I tend to agree. On some level, the spouse does know...but chooses not to.

In a matter of minutes the verdict in the Sandusky trial will be released.

Is there anyone, anyone who believes this could be not guilty?

This was one of most lopsided trials.

Mr Sandusky , here is your new shower room and your new shower mates..

I was in my truck driving toward my usual parking spot, when I listened to the verdict come down....I have to say that even though by myself, and in the dark, I let out a cheer out loud.

I have never heard such an incompetent attorney in my life as Sandusky's.

45 out of 48 eh? I believe that is what you call taking care of the trash.

I don't know if he was incompetent or just given nothing really to attack with. That would have been a tough job and if he had an IQ higher than a soapdish then he knew his client was guilty . His only avenue for the defense was to attack that the accusers were out to make money and I imagine there will indeed be some civil lawsuits.

Realistically he may have been able to convince the jury that Sandusky had a mental disorder or plea deal. I would not want his job.

I asked a defense attorney once how could he do his job if he really knew his client was guilty. His response was that he was there to make certain the state does its job and if we didn't provide a defense attorney for an accused we would become like Nazi Germany.

I disagree, Paterno knew about this and stayed silent to avoid scandal. He is culpable in the crimes.
Evidence and testimony strongly disagrees with you. Paterno did not stay silent. He didn't make a phone call or leave an email, but made a personal visit to the president of PSU because Paterno felt that this issue was serious. In hindsight, he should have contacted law enforcement. Paterno's biggest crime was trusting the president and the board of directors of PSU to do the right thing.

I will never argue that Paterno could have done more, or different. However, to claim that Paterno is culpable of cover up in this scandal is wrong. Other than Sandusky being such a sick bastard and harming so many innocent young boys, the president and board of PSU attempted to throw Paterno under the bus to take the heat off them. In so doing, they basically were attempting to place blame on Paterno for being part of the scandal for reporting it to them so that they could cover it up thereby making Paterno responsible. it backfired on PSU, but sadly, Paterno should have been allowed to end his career in dignity as he served with utmost dignity for many decades.

It is the chooses not to though, and it doesn't make it right, but it is a strong denial that so many spouses, friends and family members do. I know a co-worker who had a husband who was in the closet for the entire marriage, had kids, the whole 9 yds. Her husband had a secret gay lover for all of it. She NEVER knew. She allowed him to make every excuse as to why he was not there so often and accepted it.

I heard this morning they've placed him on suicide watch. I hope this doesn't come across as mean but I don't get why they put evil people on suicide watch. Save the taxpayers all kinds of money. Allow the survivors to have a come final closure. Allow the perpetrators family to put the past behind them faster and go on with their lives. I think if they want to end it all, I can't see aha favors we're doing anyone by trying to stop them.

Its not evil, people like thing called Sandusky should die in the most excruciating way someone could die. For me, I vote bleeding out from a castration anyone else. I am sure the victims' parents would PAY to see that thing die.

Yet many are content to see these MULTIPLE crimes as somehow magically occuring in a total vacuum. I really believe that to be absolutely impossible. Certainly his wife, other children, paid associates and many "close friends" KNEW that this was going on. We, as a society, seem to feel that only the "prime" offender is 100% guilty, so all araound him get a free pass. Sandusky had LOTS of help and support in commiting these horrendous acts over decades, yet he alone gets 100% of the criminal blame, and we simply accept that as justice.

My father and I agree that we shouldn't have stopped at Sandusky, you, me, and pretty much everyone else believes that his wife, Joe Paterno, and probably Penn St. knew a little of what was going on. I wish we could really know who was responsible, we just don't have the evidence to tie them to it.

Don't have it or don't WANT it? You don't get convictions for that many offenses without witnesses, you charge any that SAW, yet did not report, these crimes. This is the sickest part of this story, IMHO. There is NO WAY that many were not aware of it, they just depended on this rich guy and his rich friends, it is a small town where Penn State is. After the story broke, it was EASY to get this conviction; yet we are to believe it was somehow impossible BEFORE, during decades of abuse?

I wonder if they make something like this if he is found guilty?

I agree totally with you...there are more than a few people that knew what he was doing...Id bet there are more pedophiles involved in his charity group. Why do you think he started a charity for kids..ACCESS all pedophiles slither into being around kids...be it boyscouts, charity, boys club...I believe there is no way Joe Paterno didnt KNOW and theres no way his wife didnt know what he was doing in the basement.
Theres more than a couple of people that should go down for this...paterno was fired and hes now deceased...but there others

I seriously hope you did not just equate pedophilia to a gay affair.

Because if you did, that speaks volumes about your desire to keep defending Joe Paterno.

Looking hard under rocks are we?... The topic had to do with people being in denial about the actions of spouses. There was no equating pedophilia to a gay affair. Sorry, you will have to look elsewhere for someone to hate.

As far as my "desire" to keep defending Paterno, that is because he was aware as so many people wonder whether he did or not, and took action because of it. There is no wondering. He knew and reported it to the president of PSU. Hardly the crony coverup so many wish to believe.

Good. Just making sure.

But he stopped there, and that is where he dropped the ball. When there is a case of child abuse under your supervision, direct or indirect, and it's clear that your supervisor won't do a thing even when you told him or her about it, you are not just morally but legally obligated to go to the authorities. Joe's cowardly decision to not tell the police almost certainly failed to prevent further abuses. I don't care what his legacy is--I lost all respect for Paterno when I found out he chose to enable a child predator.
