Egypt will be a dictatorship under its military and will have and has had US support in this matter. We don't want freedom and democracy and liberty and justice. We, the USA, want the military in charge, just like Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, etc. We seem to be an evil Corporatocracy masquerading as Freedom Fighters. I don't remember voting on that. Do your various medias say this? If they don't, they are the "Mighty Wurlitzer" playing the favorite tune.
....another person caught up in the BS. If America was against freedom and democracy, why didn't it rush to support Mubarak or Gaddafi? Why would America dare go through the trouble of a democracy in Iraq or Afghanistan when a handy dandy dictator would have been easier?
Like it or not, our idiot government, along with its idiot citizens, have finally started to realize that the Cold War ended two decades ago. Propping up Western friendly dictators to oppose Soviet friendly dictators is a thing of the past. It has been for a long time, though people pretend the year is 1975 every year. President Obama did America's image no favors by pretending that America didn't have a role during this Arab Spring. In regards to Libya, France looked more American than America despite France's public announcement to protect Tunisia's dictator one month prior.
Fact: Over 120 democracies have been created since 1900.
Fact: With the America winning it's 250 year conflict against the soul sucking isms (socialism, fascism, communism), it announced democracy as the victor. Those who believed that man should be governed from below defeated those who believed that man should be governed from above.
Islamists winning in Egypt is not enough of a problem that we need to take a step backwards. It was inevitible. The Muslim Brotherhood, along with everybody else in the MENA have learned in the past ten years that violence is not the way to power anymore. The way to power is through the choice of the people. They will also learn that if they want to remain in power and continuing economic security with the West that they will have to give in to what the people want, which is greater education, social justice, and economic opportunity. If they fail they will either be replaced by those who will or they will prove to the world and their fellow Arab that they are nothing more than what they used to be. Either way, radical extremist organizations are going to be on the decline. No why? Because extremist organizations cannot survive in an environment where people have social justice, political expression, and choice. Ever wonder why Al-Queda can simply change host nations? Could this happen in the West?
The Muslim Brotherhood will work with the Egyptian military and both will benefit from America to keep the peace and move forward. Our country's military relationship with the Egyptian military is why Mubarak was removed without mass slaughter. Don't be so quick to dismiss the Egyptian military as some sort of coup frenzied dominator. The Turkish military constantly overthrow and reboot the Turkish government whenever they start going down the wrong Islamist radical path. The Egyptian people need their military to be strong for them until their representatives do the right by them.
Or we can look at it like this: France elected Napoleon, who rampaged across Europe and northern Africa, and it took them seventy years to get democracy right. Germany elected Hitler, who rampaged across Europe and sucked in the world, and they needed help assisting democratic recovery. What is it about the 21st century Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt that has people worried already? Surely, Arab Muslims can have just a few years to get it right beofre the West screams failure and disaster. In the fall of 2003, Iraqis voted on the laws that would govern them. This was also the first time in history Arab Muslims had ever done this. Give it time.
