AP sources: Immunity offered to certain immigrants

It is a complex issue. The "they did nothing wrong?" is not correct. They along with the parents entered the US illegally. So should we just ignore our immigration laws? What message does it say to those that have come into the US legally? Were they stupid to follow our laws and process?

Yes the parents were wrong but I don't feel we should punish the children it's not like they had a say in the matter and if you put yourself in their shoes you would do the same thing. I am certain they are afraid of being deported if they come,forward...I agree it's a complex issue and I do think we need to strengthen the border ...as long as we hire them they will keep coming its best to use that avenue I guess.....

You realize that we're experiencing significant NEGATIVE immigration under Obama, right? And over all, Obama has increased border security and has deported more illegals relative to his predecessor.

Much of that is due to the economy, as it improves they will come back in droves.

Yep I agree it was pure political move..but seeing how the do nothing congress is just sitting around President Obama figured he do the compassionate, common sense ,thing for these children of illegal immigrants I say bravo! And if congress wants to pass the dream act even better! Some of these ,"children" served in our military, own businesses , and have much to contribute to our society. Why do you think we should deport them? They did nothing wrong.

So, never mind what the law says, if Obama does not like a law then he is under no obligation to enforce it? They are fine if they come young, get 12 years of free public education, then they can work for 12 years, pay taxes, but not vote, but once they turn 30/31 then we may simply deport them. That makes NO sense at all.

Not for nothing but this was so transparent and predictable that I predicted it (along with every other pandering tip of the hat to every special interest group) back in November of last year.

Many of us (even conservative types) have long held that some form of amnesty was going to be required as a component of the illegal immigration problem. What makes this despicable isnt that he did it...again...predictable...but that he has done it before the election for no other reason than to curry votes. Immigrants are just as much puppets and tokens to Obama as is the gay community. The only thing more sad than him doing it is how eagerly they dance at his slightest tug.

The reality is that the right wing made immigration reform impossible. You can't possibly solve the problem with enforcement only, but anything that isn't a purely enforcement based solution makes the right wingers go bonkers. They're so hysterical and irrational about it that they've made the whole issue untouchable for Congress. Enough Democrats in swing states fear the attacks of the right wing nuts that they won't do it and virtually no Republicans are willing to do anything about illegal immigration at all. So, Obama was the only guy in a position to do anything to address it. ICE has finite resources. Wasting them going after college kids and whatnot would just be idiotic. Continuing to refocus ICE on the highest priorities is a substantial step in the right direction. A lot of people who never did anything wrong can sleep a lot easier tonight, and the folks who did something wrong will sleep less easily knowing that ICE is now freed up to focus more of its resources on them.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet...but did anyone catch Romney's surprising response to this?

The negative immigration is due to the fact they can't find jobs either in the Obamanomics economy.

So it has nothing to do with stepped up enforcement and border security. That would indicate to me that there's no point in further boosting enforcement and border security, because those efforts have NO effect.

Fences without guns, keep a small portion of people out but those determined to cut or jump the fence will do so. If there are no jobs across the fence, no money across the fence or other negatives, that is further disincentive to cross said fence. Common sense.

Now, if there were guns on the fence every 500 yards, and the will to shoot anyone crossing the fence (hypothetically speaking) then I'd venture to guess little to no one would be crossing, but we're not East Germany or North Korea --- well.... at least to most sane people we are not.

First of all Reagan started this immigration mess...he gave over a million of them pure outright amnesty and were talking adults that ran over the border...the GOP donors needed cheap labor to dilute the work force back then.
Since then just what has the GOP done to stop immigration. Bush wanted to give them ALL amnesty. So stop with the righteous indignaton and supreme hypocrisy you conservatives...Your guys have been MUCH WORSE. Having said that, I believe Obama has a made a grave mistake doing this and coming out about Gay Marriage. This election is too close to be catering to small interest groups...I now believe hes going to lose this election and at best he made it much HARDER for himself...this will not help him

and..........?
Yes I have heard that stat. Increased border security is debatable. This administration has increased deportation.
Yet how many illegal aliens remain?

and how do you suggest we find them all?

We don't need to find them all. We can first get the ones that are out flaunting the fact they are here illegally.

As for the ones not out in the open flaunting the fact they are here illegally we can discourage them to leave. We can require that you must present a birth certificate , green card or a certificate of naturalization in order to get a photo ID and to renew it. Then we require that parents need a state issued ID in order to enroll their kids into school, get tax payer funded services, to open a bank account, to cash a check, to wire money, to get and or cash a money order, to rent buy sell and or use property, that you must have a state issued driver's license and insurance in order to get a car.Require police verify the legal status of anyone they pull over, not just suspected individuals. Severely crack down on the scum hiring illegals, throw them in prison and make them subject to assets seizure and forfeiture upon a guilty conviction, and permanently deny them business licenses.

Conservatives were just as pissed when Bush was trying to pass Amnesty and I am pretty sure they were pissed when Reagan passed amnesty.BTW conservative doesn't Republican nor does Republican equal conservative.

A lot remain, and always will until we reform the system. That will never happen if we insist on achieving an impossible goal before we fix the system.

Here is a clue. As long as a person can enter illegally into the US and stay without significant penality, no "system " will work.
Just heard an interview on the news regarding the "order" from an illegal alien. They think the US should change the system to make them all legal. They hope to someday be able to vote to do just that. Yea, open borders:mrgreen:

Obviously there is a deterrent effect or these kids wouldn't be so thrilled with change.

Doesn't your Chicago office have something a bit more original to use?

Its not that there is no significant penalty its the fact the government refuses to do anything about it. An illegal alien can go on national tv admit they are here illegally and the authorities do not do anything despite a confession on national tv.

Good grief. that is a pretty crazy statement. What deterrent if they remained (parents and kids) in the US. We still have illegal aliens entering daily. Though not as much (economic down turn). They are just reliefed so they can apply for a legal work card.

True. It amazes me how some justify not enforcing our immigration laws. The change they seem to want will do us no good.

the best way to stop illegal immigration, is to significantly increase the fines & prison terms for hiring illegals, and to require ALL employable folks in the USA carry a drivers license or some other card that has info regarding their citizenship or immigration status.

as long as folks refuse things like REAL ID, and other centralized & uniform id programs, the problem will just continue.

anyone who knowningly hires an illegal alien should go to prison for a minimum of 5 years..and pay a $25,000 fine per each illegal they hire.

anyone who hires an illegal alien because they failed to check their status, should pay a $5,000 fine per each illegal.

inact these laws, and things will change.

I heard something funny on MSNBC this morning. A lady was talking about employers paying illegal immigrants less money and she said, "I want undocumented workers to know that they can take this to court. It's against the law to pay less than minimum wage!" Okay.... and it's not against the law for the person to sneak into the US or the employer to hire them? Oy.

Did this person happen to be a caller or something?
