Texas Dad Beats Daughter's Molester to Death: Cops

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

I find it somewhat disturbing that anyone would even question this poor father's actions at that moment in his life.

I find nothing in what he did objectionable or questionable.

I think he reacted as many/most would/should.

There's nothing in the report that suggests he went overboard or in any way was deliberately trying to kill the man raping his young daughter.

No more questions need to be asked in my opinion.
Let the healing begin ASAP for that little girl and her family.
Best thing all around is to let her have her father.

I wouldn't wish anybody dead, but at least this one guy won't be able to molest any more little kids. I hope that because she's only 4, the little girl will have only blurred, vague memories, if these, that focus on her daddy rescuing her.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

He done good. sadly it was too quick

Turtle I respectfully disagree with you. I am glad it was quick. The man has to live with the death on his hands. Unfortunately even though he was in the right completely, he still has to live with it. And believe me that sucks. Killing a man is easy, its living with it thats the bitch. The quicker it was the less he has to remember and live with. Hopefully it was just a big blur of reaction with very little thought involved. That dad did right by his child and hopefully that fact will help him mentally.:(

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

Not according to the law, but I would willingly go to prison to avenge a family member of something like that. Especially my kids.

They could run, but they will just die tired.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

well when i heard about that case in CT where two mopes raped two girls and their mother-almost killed the father and then burned the girls to death after murdering the mother I would be in favor of the father being given four things

1) A crowbar
2) a blowtorch
3) an hour with the two mopes who would be stretched on racks
4) a complete pardon for all that he does during that hour

If that was my familiy no pardon would be required, the law be damned.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

I think the decision for indictment should rest on one simple question. Was his response to witnessing his four year old daughter being molested be something you'd expect any father in the same situation to do? I'd say its resounding yes. I can't imagine my response being any different....at all.

Correct. As an example..under our laws, if the guy you shot in a deadly force situation is longer a threat and walking back to shoot him 2-3 more times on the ground, can't be considered self defense.

Like it or not, you can't execute some one whos no longer a threat.

Actually you can, the justification being you were making sure the threat was completely eliminated. Just because you shoot someone doesnt mean they will go down, or stay down. It that situation the letter P must be applied. P for plenty. Of bullets. I prefer the Rhodensean method, two in the chest and at least one in the head. They generally stay down that way, permanately. If you dont use enough rounds corpes have an annoying tendancy to not stay dead.

Indictment, why? Thats just a waste of time, no jury in Texas will even think about convicting him of anything, except for being a hero.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

Morally doesn't mean **** here

Theres a fine line.....Once the threat has stopped, you must stop

You cannot continue to beat down the individual once, the individual is no longer a threat

So long as there is even a twitch the individual is a pontintial threat. You dont stop till they absolutely positively dead. Corpes have an annoying tendincy to not stay corpes.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

I agree. This child was only 4 yrs old. The violent rape of a child this small by a full-grown man could have ruptured her insides, leaving her permanently scarred, sterile or dead. He acted lawfully to protect his child. He didn't intend to kill the guy; he intended to punch him until he was no longer a danger. And he did.

How do you know any of that?

Under the letter of the law, indictment is possible or allowed. I personally think they shouldn't at all. If the DA pursue its, should be run out of office. But if he does decide to present it to a Grand Jury, indictment is very possible. My comment was geared towards the perspective of the DA weighing the decision.

And don't necessarily dub this guy as a "hero." My personal view of a hero is someone that goes well above and beyond what the average person would do. He responded in way your average father would do in this situation. At least I'd hope so.

I suppose your right, but I got a feeling in his families eyes he's a hero especially his daughter.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

I try to imagine the imperative to defend my child and I fall short as I've yet to experience that bond.

But when I imagine my most valued loved one facing a threat to their life or safety at the hands of some evil bastard all I can conjure up is blind rage and heavy desire to hurt the evil ********er who made the attempt. This man, when interviewed, is said to have expressed remorse for the results of his actions. If he did then he's a better person than I imagine I'd be. I can't fathom remorse at the death of somebody who causes that kind of hurt to my family.

Exactly. It's no different than killing a coyote, or a wild cat that's attacking your own. You back it the **** off, and put a bullet in the damn thing so it doesn't attack someone else.

I don't think I'd be a very good officer, to be honest. I'd rather be the one in the lab processing evidence, or better yet, the profiler called in to help define and identify the unsub in a serious criminal investigation.

After hitting repeatedly someone in the head and at some point, the individual is in a semi-unconscious state or no longer a threat....you stop

To continue to beat someone that no longer is a threat...is criminal

That's true... but I don't think anyone cares and neither do I. They should have made the horses rape him before they killed him.

Wrong. Once the threat has stopped *even if the person is still alive*.....you stop. You do not continue to beat, the individual until *said individual* is absolutely positively dead (excessive force)

Up to the GJ to decide

I definitely agree with that. My heart goes out for this little girl, her father and their family. She experienced an absolutely horrifying experience. Being sexually assaulted by someone she knows and watching her father beat a man to death. However, think one counters the other a bit. She'll know what this man did to her was wrong and that her father was there to protect her. In these instances, thats usually not the case.

Re: Sheriff: Father kills man sexually abusing his daughter

Honestly do you think in the heat of the moment the father was thinking, "Just subdue, just subdue, just subdue"? Seriously? If your life were threatened would you be able to ignore every biological imperative driving you to keep fighting and stop at the exact moment the risk is quelled?

Further, do you even know the father kept beating the guy excessively and repeatedly? I've seen no indication that the guy beat on the guy for a long period of time, and no autopsy report is available to ascertain the severity of the injuries to the face of the alleged molester (an indication of how many times the father hit the guy).

You seem to be asking for completely unrealistic reactions from this guy because of some altruistic view of legal purity. It ain't black and white. There will be leeway given to situations like this in almost all scenarios...because law enforcement officials, psychologists, judges, and prosecutors understand human nature.
