New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks

Monons abound in all parties, levels and positions within gov't, and well over 80% of them will be re-elected.

which says more about the people doing the reelecting than it does about the elected officials.

LOL, keep telling yourself that. No, liberals are the ones trying to explode the size and scale of government.

And yes, let's decriminalize drugs so we can hire more cannibalism agents in the Miami police department.

The drug war is big government, end of discussion.

It's so ridiculous that it makes you laugh (so long as you don't live in NYC).

So let me get this straight -
  • I can't buy a large coffee or tea that is sweetened - I have to buy it unsweetened and walk over to the condiments table and put the sugar in myself.
  • You may no longer buy a 20oz medium soda with free refills. Instead, you'll be forced to buy a 16oz small with free refills. That restriction alone could curb the obesity epidemic - I just know it!
  • Now wait just a minute! You mean I'll no longer be able to enjoy a two liter bottle of Coke with my lunch? Haha! Fools! I'll just stuff a six-pack into my lunch box and drink that instead! Muhahaha!
  • Diet soda is perfectly fine - of course, people who consume diet soda get just as fat as people who drink the real thing - but, if these regulations had to make sense, they'd never have been proposed!
  • 70% fruit juice is okay, but fruit juice with sugar is not - uhh, when was the last time you saw sugar free juice? You DO know that fruit juice has more sugar and calories than Coke? Right? Right? Bueller?
  • What do you mean you want a venti unsweet latte? Do you realize there's a whole cup of milk in that drink you fat pig? That's enough to fill a small glass!

How can you support one type of suppression of a product but not another?

It just blows me away that there are people fighting for their right to leglly ingest cocaine, heroin, LSD, crystal meth, and crack.

Can you imagine a college campus if all that was openly legal?

I'm positive this will have an impact. Not because I love big government, but because people are generally lazy. If given the option to get up from you seat to get another drink, most will stay right where they are.

The truth is most folks don't think... period. Someone says "Super size and you'll get X for just Y more in money", those people think wow, that's a bargain instead of thinking, I don't really need that much. This will have an immediate backlash, but as long as Bloomberg sticks to it, it'll have an impact overtime.

Crystal meth and crack are "products"?

Then, a crocodile is a pet reptile.

unfortunately, many Americans are too lazy & stupid to better their health.

sometimes they need a little nudge. Not saying this is the right nudge, though.

As a NYC resident this will have zero impact on me. I've pretty much cut out my soda and sweet drink consumption.

A better nudge might be to tell people up front just how many calories they're consuming. Another could be to charge obese people more for health insurance.

Where in the constitution does it say the government can outlaw that stuff?

well, ya see, govt. has the right to ban stuff that's bad.

not stuff that's good. :)

and the right to decide for us what is bad and what is good, along with the right to take personal property that might be used to distribute that which it has decided is bad. It's all a part of Constitutional limited government supported by conservatives.

It must be in there somewhere.

New York City is a very unique city. Why should anyone here care unless they live in NYC? Did you know that in Elizabethtown, KY you can't carry an ice cream cone with more than two scoops on it in your pocket? It's just one of those things you see on the news and go "Well that's New York."

Excessive soft drink consumption in a country with one of the highest obesity statistics in the universe can objectively be seen as a bad thing.
Would you react the same way to an indoor smoking ban?

Re: New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks...

Not really, because it falls under the conservatives mantra of "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!".
How true. I think a lot of it has to do with their euphemistic term "children" for what are really failed abortions (a scientific fact considering the overwhelming consensus among those of us who have adopted this evolved understanding).

Does it matter what I think is good or bad? I thought it was the job of government to decide.

This is so stupid.

The measure would not apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, dairy-based drinks like milkshakes, or alcoholic beverages; it would not extend to beverages sold in grocery or convenience stores.
