Jury reaches verdict in former officer's beating trial

Don't you wish that once, just ONCE, you could chase down a scumbag and beat the **** out of them?

Some guys seem to have all the luck.

The problem I have with this is I know I'm at the top of your s**t list.

The kid is lucky he doesn't live in my town, Las Vegas. The cops would have shot him to death and their union would have blocked any investigation.

We think that these incidents are the actions of rogue officers but IMHO a majority of police officers are vile bullies who arre empowered to maim and kill with little chance of punishment. This is the "law and order" that we called for in the past.

We've also had numerous incidents of officers beating BYSTANDERS because they dared to video their misbehavior.

Do I think all cops are rotten? No, I'm sure that there are some dedicated, honorable ones. But even they are bound to the blue wall of silence when the bad ones go amuck.

I don't know and don't much care because it just doesn't pass the bull**** smell test. I mean lets look at it logically. For this scenario to play out as described by you EVERYONE involved, narcotics, teachers, fellow classmates, countless street cops, supervisors, supervisores supervisors, basically the whole damn police department has to be involved and committed to lying and framing. And to what end?

Yeah, that's completely excessive. Cops doing the same thing in Fullerton actually killed the guy. I don't know what the jury was thinking. Seriously. :(

This was an all white jury in Houston, TX that found the officer not guilty. Mayor Anise Parker has told Houston citizens to remain calm, but racial tensions are now running very high. I wouldn't be surprised to see acts of revenge against white people or police officers here, or even a riot. The last major riot in Houston happened in the late 1970's, when police officers were acquitted by an all white jury in a case where the officers threw a handcuffed Hispanic man named Jose Torres into Buffalo Bayou and remarked "Let's see if this wetback can swim". Torres drowned.

For those who believe that the officers acted properly, and cheer this decision, here is the raw video, courtesy of Channel 13 in Houston. Look at it and then tell me that the officers who were charged are innocent.

Yea, I know, the suspect that these cops were beating was wanted for burglary. He deserved to be punished, but that is for a court to decide, and not the decision of rogue cops who want to take the law into their own hands. I just heard that the FBI is now investigating, and I wouldn't be surprised if Federal civil rights charges are leveled against these officers.

Article is here.

funny when OJ got off Jews didn't go on rampages and neither did blondes. Why is it generally blacks who go bonkers when "they" lose a trial?

any white targeted for reprisal hopefully will be packing at least a 50 shot automatic weapon

sigh...I watched the video...and I would think im probably more qualified to judge the video than most on this forum...

Those police officers were DEAD WRONG...Look im all for a good NYC asswhoopin for any one that is resisting arrest, has a weapon or is being threatening or hurt a cop....but YOU DO NOT beat a man who is on the ground an not posing any threat whatsoever...and the lionshare of guys I worked with and have worked for me would never do that....

And the court said the cop was not guilty.

Jerry, they were wrong...what they did was totally out of line...no justification for kicking and beating that kid...he was lieing docile on his belly...what he did has nothing to do with it at that point....Im amazed that a cops for a city the size of houston would do that in the middle of the day under camera...dumbass'

Doesn't matter, still got what he deserved.

Hey, if you can just declare him guilty without a trial and say it's permissible to just beat the hell out of him even while he's lying on the ground defenseless, why bother having a justice system? Let's just get rid of it and give everyone tire irons.

I'm with Middleground. It disturbs me that you're in the military. Why do you serve for a country whose principals you clearly don't believe in? It seems like you'd like America to be a lot more like Afghanistan than a developed country.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I don't know, what?

In America....
They tuk yer job?

meh.ro3066.jpg

....people have the right to a trial for any crimes they are charged with.

...and get their asses kicked by the cops when they comit burglary and felony evasion.

We don't have vigilante justice where you can just go around beating the **** out of people for whatever reason you want.

Didn't you see the video? You know the cop was found not guilty, right? Car to re-think that statement.

I'm not sure what sort of backwater dictatorship you'd like to see this country turn into, but by every principal that America is founded on, what those cops did is nothing short of heinous. What they did is straight up thuggery.

Amer'kuh! **** yeah! Here to save the mother****ing day, yeah!

I like how you just tried to turn this around. I was referencing the fact that the police officers punished the suspect, when punishing suspects is not in their domain. But I think you already knew that when you dishonestly attempted to change the context.

And yes, a white jury in Texas found him innocent. A Federal court, trying him on civil rights violations will not.

Jerry, they were wrong...'
The term is "not guilty". Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, remember? The cop's guilt wasn't proven, therefore he's innocent. Amer'kuh, **** yeah!

Uh, no, the court found him "not guilty".

Jerry..I was refering strictly to the video and the action of the cops....Ive seen the guilty go free time and time again....in court gamemanship comes to play...what the defense can get blocked from the Jury...what the prosecutor isnt allowed to introduce...the fairytales weaved and blah blah blah....unfortunately NOT GUILTY doesnt always mean innocent...

Oh, so cops get just treatment, and I'm assuming if they'd been found guilty you'd expect they be sentenced appropriately and not dragged out and beaten by a bunch of thugs, right?

But a regular citizen should be given no trial and get whooped in the street?

Seriously, move somewhere better suited to your ideals.

You cry civil rights and demand due process until the court does something you don't personally agree with, then all of a sudden the court is corrupt

Save your hypocritical equivocating bull**** for someone stupid enough to believe you.

I agree. Jerry would most likely applaud those who lynched blacks in the South and got off. "They were found not guilty" is what he would say.

I didnt say any of that ...I didnt mention civil rights or due process ...and I didnt say I disagreed with the court...I was stating facts as I see them....

You just can't get past the fact that the system worked even-though the courts didn't do what you wanted. You wanted due process, you got it. Due process isn't a vending machine where you can push a button and get the verdict you want.

More equivocation hilarity lol

What i find funny is that if anyone has dibs to defend these guys...its me...but I cant....just watching the fricken video how the hell can you say it was right...to try and defend those cops...makes the 99% of good cops look like chit...and Im not doin it

No. I just think it's disgusting that your main complaint is that the cops didn't beat him hard enough. What they did to that man is not due process.

I haven't said a word about the cop's trial. I'm frankly confused by it, but given the weird charges that really don't make much sense in the situation not exactly surprised.

Why doesn't that man get due process in your mind?

I agree. Most cops here in Houston are pretty decent, and a few go above and beyond. A few months ago, returning from a gig, with my wife in the car with me, I got a flat tire, and pulled into a gas station. As I was changing my tire, a cop came up and helped me. You don't see that much, but when you do, you get to appreciate cops. Not all of them, though. There are a few bad apples that belong in jail or in a padded cell. LOL.

I have no tears for teen criminals. It's to bad the cops have to face additional legal action in the future, and that this teen couldn't find a way to get himself shot or ran over by that white police car.

Yes, I watched your video link in it's entirety. This was not a 'brutal assault'. Frankly I'm ashamed those cops couldn't land even 1 decent kick.

This is the kind of idiotic thinking that just cost my city 1.6 million in a civil suit for the wrongful death of a mentally diabled man by police who thought he had attempted to steal money from an ATM machine. It all started when two airhead females phoned 911 to reported a suspicious man at the ATM machine. The deceased man withdrew some money from his ATM account and headed to a convenience store to buy some soda and a snickers bar. The police found him in the convenience store and proceeded to beat him, tie him and taser him until he died. His last dying words were, "I just wanted a snickers bar."

The guy had broken no laws. Yes, he is mentally disabled so he may not look or act like you or I but that does not give you the right to kill him.
