President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.

In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.

It is a move to gain votes. Regardless of his personal views on gay marriage he is going to state what he thinks will get him votes. In 2008 he thought it would harm his campaign so he did not come out and say it. This year he thinks it will. If it would get him more votes then he would come out and be for anything. And not just Obama, every politician. Say anything to stay in office and keep those bribes coming.

Hes using it as a wedge issue against Romney. Up until now, Romney could say he has the same position as the President. Now he can no longer claim that unless he goes the same route. I am guessing he will not come out for gay marriage and will go back to defending DOMA, I dont know for sure with Romney, its hard telling.

Great to know our candidates are so forthcoming with their deeply-held beliefs.

/sarcasm.

Oh no, he's playing politics! The horror!

He always was in favor of it, now it seems advantageous to say it. Big deal. That's what you do when you're running for office, which is what he is doing.

Was anybody who was super against gay marriage going to vote for him anyway?

For social conservatives, this is a major event. Expect them to start forming militias and buying more ammo, in preparation for a war to defend the Bible from the "heathen librels."

Thank you Hussein Obama..........With that statement you just lost the election..........You did it to get votes but the problem is you already have the gay vote and you will lose millions of religeous Hispanic, Blacks and Catholics vote..

What a scumbag this guy is............He runs for president saying he does not support Gay Marriage and then when he is elected he does a flip flop and supports it............

That's drivel.

It's not as though those social conservatives were voting for Obama anyways.

That's a good point.

Obama will probably some votes from those groups. Not sure exactly how much though.

Wow I am shocked to hear a Liberal say that.

I don't think any of those people really believed he was against gay marriage. A very liberal democrat from a very liberal state comming out to say he support gay marriage is not really a surprise. Its like a fat person saying "At first I didn't like donuts but I thought long and hard about so now I love donuts."

Yeah but a lot of Hispanic, Blacks and moderate Catholics might have...They are history now. I can already see Father Thomas at Mass giving his sermon on the evils of Homosexuality.......He will not mention Hussein Obama but he does not have to.

Will he also be talking about the evils of adultery or does he just see one sin?

Well even if Obama were to lose some votes because of this, it is equally as possible he gains some votes as well.

Some liberals are partisan, and some are objective. Same with conservatives.

Never met a liberal against gay marriage and very few that are pro life.....I think I will start a poll.....

This is a textbook example of wishful thinking.

Tell me how? He already has the gay vote.........who will he gain?

Did he actually come out and say he was for it? I heard a lot of rambling and tip toeing around it. But maybe I momentarily passed out due to the boredom of watching him and missed it.

Either way, he can say whatever he want's, the record shows he has not supported it, and I am sure he will continue to show no support for it in his actions (or lack of actions as it may be).

Considering what NC just did, and him coming out with this now, anyone that believes him and does not see it as pure political BS is a bafoon.

Being pro-SSM or pro-choice does not mean you are not objective though.

I'm surprised he did that before the election. As to votes, if he could get the college campus votes again, young people (for the most part) are very flexible in supporting gay issues. That North Carolina vote shocked me. Times are changing, whether we like it or not, chief.
