Highlights of the strategic partnership agreement signed in Kabul by President Barack Obama and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai outlining the relationship between their countries after the U.S.-led war ends in 2014:— U.S. commits to support Afghanistan's social and economic development, security, institutions and regional cooperation for 10 years, through 2024.— Afghanistan commits to strengthen government accountability, transparency and oversight, and to protect the human rights of all Afghans, both men and women.— U.S. does not seek permanent military bases in Afghanistan, but Afghanistan will provide U.S. personnel access to and use of Afghan facilities beyond 2014.— Allows U.S. possibility of keeping forces in Afghanistan after 2014 for purposes of training Afghan forces and targeting al-Qaida.— Does not commit the U.S. to any specific troop levels or funding levels in the future, an acknowledgement that those decisions will be made in consultation with Congress.— Commits the U.S. to seek funding from Congress on an annual basis to support the Afghan Security Forces, as well as for social and economic assistance.— Designates Afghanistan as a "major non-NATO ally" of the U.S. to provide a long-term framework for security and defense cooperation.— Requires written notification by either side to amend or terminate the agreement, which would take effect a year after that notification, and establishes that it may be renewed by mutual agreement in 2024.

Ill give this country 10 years before it goes back to the ol Theocratic dictatorship.. Civil war will boil over just like in Iraq.. Way to unstable. It was a pointless waste of time for us being there.

My thought, comment and response is that I'm so mad I could spit nails. WTF? Keep our soldiers in that hellhole for another ten years, where they will continue to be systematically killed and blown up until there are what, another few thousand dead? All this to prop up a regime that has done nothing but publicly berate and denigrate us, ignore civilian deaths caused by Taliban while taking the international stage to accuse NATO troops of atrocities every time civilians are caught in the crossfsire?

This "war" should have been won in months, at Tora Bora. Instead the utter incompetence of an administration already planning to attack Iraq and withholding troops needed in Afganistan allowed Al Qaeda and Taliban to simply waltz past the "Afghan soldiers" who were supposedly surrounding the area.

Now we've been pouring blood and money into that pit for a decade, and Obama signs us up for a second decade? Screw Bush, screw Obama. Every drop of blood spilled in the past 10 years and in the next ten years is on their politically-smug shoulders.

Words cannot fully express how disgusted and angry I am about this.

Would have been nice to include something in there that made this regime worth defending (e.g a commitment to non-fraudulent elections and a commitment to remove warlords from power) all we are doing here is supporting one group of glorified gangsters against the other for no discernible reason.
