U.K. Report Condemns News Corp

LONDON—The U.K. parliamentary committee probing illicit voice mail interception by News Corp.'s shuttered News of the World tabloid released a final report Tuesday concluding that News Corp. Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch is "not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company" and accusing several former company executives of misleading parliament.

The report says Mr. Murdoch and his son, News Corp. Deputy Chief Operating Officer James Murdoch, presided over a culture of "willful blindness" at News Corp. It also singles out James Murdoch for displaying a "lack of curiosity," even "willful ignorance," when handling fallout from the phone-hacking scandal as the manager overseeing News Corp.'s British newspaper unit, News International, from late 2007 to 2012.

There is no evidence of that and it wouldn't be reasonable. Fox may be worthless propaganda, but there is no evidence that they engaged in the violations of privacy that news corp is accused of.

There is talk about some payments that Fox made that could fall under the foreign corrupt practices act. The same law that is getting Wal Mart jammed up right now.

rathi is correct in posting that there is "no evidence" of similar practices in the US affiliates of News Corp but there should definitely be an investigation as Les Hinton, who was boss at the News of the World during the time when phone hacking was common practice had been chosen by Murdoch to run Dow Jones, owner of the Wall Street Journal.

The question then becomes: Would a person who acted in a criminal manner in one country change his habits when working in another nation?

Me neither.. chances are to avoid such an investigation that Murdoch tells Fox News to switch to Obama.. not the first time he has done that to avoid investigations and being barred from markets. Hell he bought out Canal Plus in France (parts) to avoid legal action for industrial espionage. He is cozy with the Chinese so he can maintain his STAR business in China.. what did that cost him.. oh yea, he pulled the BBC World News from the satellite network.

But it might put enough pressure on the board to get rid of him finally... because if an investigation was started then a whole lot of crap will be dragged up and it is not the first time a naturalised US citizen has his citizenship removed..
