Police Chiefs Focus on Disparities in Gun Violence, With an Eye Toward Solutions

And Oakland is like Philadelphia. But there's no New Jersey equivalent out West; so they win.

Your being silly Ikari...think about what you saying..:)

Look..Lmao...this is one of the silliest childish lines of rap ive seen on this forum...seriously guys....east coast is all assholes...the west coast are all great...ROFLMAO....listen...california is consider a toilet bowl by 80% of the country people are FLOCKING out of california...its a cess pool of crime and illegal immigration and drug cartels...and so is the east...to make that childish uninformed absurd statement is just laughable.
Heres the truth...there is very little difference...between LA and NYC....

In all honesty, the majority of the flight from CA is due to the cost of living and the crappy economy.

Violent crime is DOWN in SD, just saw an article in the paper about it.

Illegal immigration is also down here. FAR fewer illegals hanging out at the Depot.

No work.

The drug cartels are a problem of our own making. They would have no money OR power if our gov didn't subsidize their industry with drug laws.

And I've never been to NY, but I know several people FROM NY. And if everybody in NY acts like they do, then I'm sure its a ****ty place to live.

California is the most rural state in America these days, which is pretty odd. But yeah, cost of living out there is ridiculous.

NYC is a ****ty place to live.

What if cmon...you know San Diego is one place in california...no major city has seen a decline in crime as HUGE as NYC in the last 10 yrs...do you realize what a dangerous place NYC was in the late 60s, 70s 80s...do you realize you could not walk around times square after dark...there were patrolemen and plainclothes everywhere in that area in PAIRS...connected pairs....NYC is cleaner and as crimeless as its ever been....
Im not comparing califormia to NY or the east to the west coast...its absurd and based on ZERO facts only someones childish hot air...
How about this they are both full of AHs :) including the entire north and south too lol

NYC is a fantastic place to live ... as long as you got the bucks....

This is, at it's core, an economic problem. The racial disparaties are largely consequential, not causal. All long a America continues it's infatuation with race, I don't see you making any kind of headway.

The truth is police know the truth...but some people are so unreasonable in their quest for what they want...they exclude all other opinions or facts...

Its incomprehensible to some that anyone could say that crime in all black neighborhoods is far more prevalent than in white neighborhoods without them being LABELED a racist...but its the truth and theres NON racial reasons for it....its the poverty factor stupid...its the unemployment numbers stupid...
When you have scores of young men out of work with nothing but Idle time and empty pockets...what else would you expect ?...theres many more NON racist reasons...but some wont even accept it.....if you dont SAY IT LIKE IT IS...how can you ever fix it... The chief are utterly totally correct to bring out this issue

No. It is not the poverty. It is not unemployment. It is not the economy.

It is the culture. Black culture in America. The number one correlating factor amongst hard criminals is to be raised in homes without fathers in them. An epidemic in the black community.

Black culture, or the culture of poverty? How do white, Asian, and Hispanic youth do when they're raised in a similar environment?

It was pointed out above that San Diego is a desirable place to live, but fairly expensive. Now, let's compare that with another California city that has few blacks, but a lot of poverty. Fresno is smack in the middle of the state. It's not a bad place to live if you have at least a middle class sort of income, but a lot of people don't. So, what does Fresno have that San Diego doesn't? A high murder rate, a lot of crime, drugs, and gangs. I don't have stats on its murder rate compared to Philadelphia, but I do read the local news. Drive bys happen all the time, as do "gang related' murders.

I dont think you can separate any of it. Welfare policies destroyed minority families. Lack of viable employment opportunities makes education and hard work a really hard sell. It doesnt help that there are carpetbaggers willing to slide in and excuse and justify every bad behavior in the name of race. If there is to be change, it pretty much has to be a universal approach. A ground up change has to occur with real opportunity and something more tangible to hang hats on than 'hope and change' and the promise of more handout programs.

You need to return to actual free market capitalism for starters. Free market allows for the most amount of economic mobility. But that's been frozen out because economic mobility not only means that the poor can rise up to middle class or rich; but also that the rich can become poor.

Gotta weigh on this this discussion. I have lived in Michigan, Maine and Colorado. Been to NY and Boston multiple times. never been to Cali. I can tell you the entire NE is full of assholes. It is terrible up there. Maine is not as bad as the rest of the NE but they are still up there. People have absolutely no consideration for other around them. Michigan was not a whole lot better. Colorado is much much nicer. People, environment, crime, CoL ect is all far better here.

No. It is not the poverty. It is not unemployment. It is not the economy.
It is largely those things. Broken families and the lack of a father figure can certainly be causal factors but one of the key things they cause is poverty.

It is the culture. Black culture in America.
Or American culture in relation to black citizens? I suggest the key problem is your history (which you can't change) and your cultural infatuation with racial differences (which you can). While blacks in America continue to be treated as second class citizens (by blacks and whites alike), they will continue to be second class citizens.

But there's no ocean in Colorado, no ocean - I ain't gonna live there.

Yes, Maine is better than much of the East Coast but using just city folks as your measurement of 'assholeyness' ignores all of those who live outside of the urban areas. Some of the conflict simply comes from different cultures not understanding the actions and words of the locals. Simply because we use English as our language does not mean every word is understood in the same way.

George Bernard Shaw said it best
England and America are two countries separated by a common language.
this also applies to communication difficulties between Americans from different parts of the country - which leads to folks saying derogatory words about one area or another.

What you find, in every study you can dig up, again is that correlating factor of homes without fathers. Yes, this begets poverty. But if you look to the studies, there is a large difference between poor homes with both parents, and poor homes without a father, and the resulting incidence of criminality. Whites from fatherless homes are more prone to criminality as well. But as a percent of population, the black community tops fatherless homes, and consequently, criminal predisposition.

The black community is FUBAR. Its not racism. Its not a lack of opportunity. Its choice.

No need for oceans when you have awesome mountains!

Yes, as noted in the link that I provided, and virtually any other that you go to, lack of a father increases the incidence of poverty. But also as noted, poor folks with fathers in the home produce less criminals than poor homes without fathers.

As to the latter. Nope. Every immigrant group did its time as "second class citizens". To stay that way is a choice.

You can't sail on a mountainside, although you can in a lake at the base of the mountain, there are at least seven sailing clubs in Colorado, but it ain't the same as crossing oceans.

First, I would like to see some documentation of this. If there are 30 guns purchased at once, the ATF would have a record of it.
Secondly, if the officers are observing this, then why are they allowing it to happen?

The entire comment smacks of hyperbole.

As I have spent a little more time at guns shows, I don't know if I would agree with that. There is little regulation going on at gunshows. I think we in the shooting community need to start policing them a litte more tightly. The more responsible we are, the less ammunition they will have (pun intended).

By a large amount, more people live in cities on the east coast than dont. So unfortunately they represent the region to most people.

:applaud

Wow -- you are a rare commodity! A gun rights advocate who can admit that *some* regulation =/= they're tring to take all our guns away.

That is as clear a statement of racism as one can find in our modern 'polite' society

God forbid we even suggest "accountability" .... or is that clear liberal Viagra/racism as well

But does the black community have more fatherless homes because of race, or is it because more of them live in poverty?

Someone above mentioned the welfare system. Now, I suppose there is a concept of the welfare mom who has kids but no husband and who depends on the largesse of government as a black woman. That is not the case, however. White women live the same way, and the same welfare system that discourages marriage before children applies to all races.

There is little that the government can do about this situation, but reforming the welfare state would be a good start.

But does the black community have more fatherless homes because of race, or is it because more of them live in poverty? ......

Can you show us any such correlation ? I'm not going to do homework for you, but the incidence of bastard kids is highest within the black community. Pick any income level.

Black culture foments the poor choices made, that then foment the higher levels of poverty and criminality. As you infer, I believe, enabling such poor choices with such as the War on Poverty only made things worse.
