Man Booked in Hammer Deaths of Vegas Mom, Child

People do not see themselves as inherently evil. That is, they don’t claim to commit heinous atrocities against fellow man for the pure joy of it. They always have some bull**** rationale. Every rapist, shooter, armed robber, murderer, wife beater and petty thief all rationalized their behavior.

They all paint themselves as the victims, every single one of them, and I’ve met quite a few

The crimes they commit don’t change, only the reasons each gives to explain away his/her transgressions change

You NEVER know what's behind a smile and a handshake.

Believe this: There are real monsters among us.

This is so true. People wonder why I'm so cautious about my fellow man.... it's because back in my cop days I met all too many evil SOBs, some of whom would consider torturing children a fine evening's entertainment. Mostly they looked perfectly normal and acted normal and did not have a flashing neon sign over their head "WARNING- PSYCOPATH!"

Horrific experience for that kid. And to go to school the next day. He was probably a walking case of shock. Poor kid. :(

What you refer to is a poorly written sentence by the reporter. Apparently the rape of the 50 year old occured a few hours before the hammer crime. But he was not "booked" before the hammer crime. He was presumably booked for both at about the same time.

I see what you mean now.

With DNA testing they should be able to be certain beyond a doubt they have the right guy. With that done is this guy redeemable to keep alive?

Personaly I don't think we should even bother feeding him.

The hammer is the clue to the motive. If you are really good with a hammer, chances are you haven't been able to find work since 2008. He may have also been contracting which negates any unemployment insurance checks.

That's the kind of thing that sometimes can push someone with no priors to a reign of terror. He decided that he had nothing to lose and everything to gain from living in the prison. With rape and murder to his cred, other inmates would leave him alone.

It's a terribly sad story that happens only rarely, but one time is too many. Not everyone contemplating suicide decides to kill themselves. Many of the mass shootings that occur are done by suicidal people.

I am stunned by this. And pretty horrified by it. Not just the story, but the comments on here. Really going to question the kids? Unless you have been a 9 year old who has watched their family get brutally beaten to death by a hammer then you dont get to judge their actions. What the **** is wrong with you?

Who has judged?

The second cruelty here is that the poor child stayed alone in the house for 24 hours.

Lunatics happen, and they don't need sophisticated weapons to cause tragedy.

If he had no significant criminal history, and no recorded issues of severe mental illness known, there isn't much that could have stopped this from happening.... unless the victims themselves could have been prepared to stop him.

Very tragic incident, but fortunatly in a nation of 300 million-plus such things are statistically rare.

I wonder if incidents like this make anyone think of the "muckers" (amok-ers) from "Stand on Zanzibar"?

One factor not addresses is did they lunatic used drugs? Sometimes people who do such things are shocked later to learn their conduct while out of their minds on some combination of illegal drugs and alcohol. In a sexual assault case in which the assailant failed to beat a teenage girl to death while assaulting her only because friends of her's happening to come along. He then also caught in the act. He had no criminal record and was a married man with children whose wife said he was a good man. But he was out of his mind on cocaine, meth and liquor. Late the next day when told what he had done and of the teen in the hospital fighting for her life, he was sobbing and raging that he should be killed/executed for what he did, that he actually highly admired the teen and only remembered that he wanted to talk to her because he thought she was so cool, and could offer no explanation why he did what he did. He refused his court appointed attorney even negotiating a plea, lamented the death penalty could not be given, declared his life was over and accepted the maximum sentences to run consecutively for what he did.

Pot an exception, but most illegal drugs often turn out not to be a victimless crime. You just don't know when there will be a victim.

I wonder how they caught the suspect? no prior crimes indicates he wouldn't be in the system even if he left dna evidence behind, and because of the total randomness of choosing the victim, no motives would of led police to the suspect.

ARREST REPORT: Double-slaying suspect does not deny involvement in crimes - www.ktnv.com

Clay was arrested April 27 at his mother's home after she called to let police know that he was at her residence.

He was initially picked up on a warrant for felony child abuse.

According to the report, Clay told detectives that he had been partying with his brother and some friends the night of April 14.

He said he drank some "dark liquor," took some "Transformers" and smoked some "Sherm" (Sherman cigarettes dipped in PCP) and then fell asleep at the house and did not wake up until the next afternoon.

When confronted by detectives about the attack on the woman shortly before 2 a.m. April 15, Clay did not deny being involved, only that he could not remember what happened.

Clay also did not deny being involved with the attack on the Martinez family. Again he stated that he did not remember

When I read of such outrageous things I just want to scream "WHY?!" until my lungs rip.

Man Booked in Hammer Deaths of Vegas Mom, Child

Using a hammer as a weapon, a "complete stranger" with no significant criminal history allegedly chose a family at random and attacked them in their home, killing a woman and her daughter, in a brutal crime that left investigators both baffled and aghast.

Bryan Clay, 22, was arrested Friday in the April 15 rape and bludgeoning deaths of 38-year-old Ignacia Martinez and 10-year-old Karla Martinez. He had no connection to the family of five, Lt. Ray Steiber said Saturday.

"This was a complete stranger killing a mother and daughter and attacking the father," Steiber told The Associated Press. "I've been doing this (police work) 24 years, and you don't see cases like this. I can't even put this into words."

Police were notified about the case when a 9-year-old boy, who was not injured by the attacker, came to school the next day and informed a counselor that his mom and sister were dead.

Nothing was taken from the house, and investigators were unsure of the motive for the attack.

"There's no rhyme or reason to why (it happened)," he said, adding Clay doesn't have a "significant" criminal history.

Clay also was booked in the beating and rape of a 50-year-old woman in the same west Las Vegas neighborhood hours before the slayings.

Steiber said he didn't know why the two boys, 9 and 4, were spared in the home invasion attack.

continued....

This story makes NO sense to me at all..

Why were the two boys still in the home for 24 hours??

Sometimes a reality check is the way to deal with a failure to read.........
