Ann Romney's critic, Hilary Rosen, taking a TV time out

Why wouldn't he view those on Federal assistance differently than his own wife? Gads, we sure do reach in order to slap back, don't we? I think it's a freakin' crime that there are people on Federal assistance able to be stay-at-home moms while other single women who have to work don't have the "luxury."

Why would you view them differently? If your poor and you stay at home to care for your kids you have no dignity, but if your rich you do?

This reminds of another lib poster in here that thought it was clever to pull a quote out of context. I told him he was no longer worth my time, ditto.

Geez, you don't take compliments very graciously!

The left failed to get Limbaugh off the air, but the right succeeded in getting Rosen off the air. :lamo

Probably because the left has character and the right, personified by the drug addict Limbaugh, doesn't. But then again, as the head of the Republican party, Limbaugh gets more slack than a mere strategist.

Defferent standards for the rich and the poor. If you're really rich and can afford to pay other people to do all of your work - including child rearing - you are apparently a noble character to the Right. If you are poor, you aren't. Fairly simple, really.

pretty much.

this week, it's a liberal working woman saying something mildly insensitive about a stay at home mom. next week, it will be a conservative saying something mildly insensitive about something liberal. each side will feign deep offense to use as a poker chip.

word to the wise : don't attack the spouse / family of a politician, even if that person is in the spotlight. it doesn't work.

Make sure you get that message to the Right. Michelle Obama has been their Pinata for 4 years now.

The Boston Herald reported on April 11, 2002:

The Romneys lived in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., an exclusive suburb outside Detroit, but George Romney, chairman of American Motors Corp., prided himself on not spoiling his children... The children had chores, though they also had a maid, a cook, and a laundress.

And the maids weren't unseen servants, The Boston Globe reported June 24, 2007 that "Mitt's primary exposure to black people had been his family's beloved housekeeper, Birdie Nailing, and an acquaintance named Sid Barthwell who was the lone black in his Cranbrook senior class."

And when Romney went on his mission to Paris in the 1960s, he had maids there, too. "In their mission-home living quarters, Romney and McKinnon considered their new responsibilities. The mission home was a four-story mansion, tended to by cooks and housekeepers who needed to be paid," The Washington Post reported December 10, 2007.

Why do we care that George Romney had a maid, cook and laundress (I've never heard that term before)?

You never heard the term "laundress"?

We had an "ironing boy" when I was growing up overseas.

The point is that the first person to stick up for Mrs Romney... was Michelle Obama.

Beck is still on radio 3 hours a.day, he has.his own web channel with several different shows, he is having a HUGE event at Cowboys Stadium this summer and he is in the first steps of creating a very large charity movement. I think leaving Fox was one of the best decisions he has ever made.

 Damn you, Mitt Romney, for hiring people and giving them jobs!

Romney was good at restructuring companies. Downsizing, right sizing, sellin off divisions and assets.. to make the core company stronger, boost stock prices and increase cash.

Perhaps it stems from people saying that Ann Romney worked hard as a SAHM. I get the feeling that she only had to stay home with the kids when she wanted to, not day-in-and-day out.

I mean, come on, most of us know some wealthy people. The ones that I have known put all domestic chores and child rearing individuals on the payroll. The Moms are free to do what they like when they like.

In all fairness, Ann Romney is old enough to be retired now. It's all water under the bridge and doesn't need to be said. It's a far different world that the rich live in. Almost fantasy.

Indeed, he sacrificed the dignity of his wife so that they may have dignity.

... and sucking out all the liquidity, forcing them into bankruptcy, offshoring jobs, and walking away with a mint.

That's right................

Ann Romney has led a pretty tough life wealth aside and her trials and tribulations have made her realize how transient and superficial wealth is. I have heard several interviews with the woman and she seems to have a really good head on her shoulders.

No question about that.. MS and Breast cncer? ... and she has had the support of a cook, maid and laundress.

The article posted about maids and such was about GEORGE Romney.

Never heard of it.

I'm not sure about that, but it's nice that the First Lady was against the Democratic strategist's words.

Now that she's had her fifteen minutes, can we please be spared from every having to hear from her or of her again?

Please?
you mean you don't want her to use her 15 minutes of fame to propel herself onto the national stage and then run for elected office? :2razz:

Hmm, looks like once again Mitt Romney is taking issue with Mitt Romney. Apparently he feels ... or felt a few months ago ... that Ann's decision to be a stay-at-home mom robbed her of dignity. :(
the difference is that those who have children out of wedlock and are on public assistance are costing the taxpayer money....
Ed Bradley was interviewing a welfare recipeint a few years back and she referred to her welfare as a salary. Ed jumped on that, told her that HE draws a salary, as HE has a job.
What she gets is NOT a salary. You work for a salary, and having unprotected sex is not work. Let's not condone or subsidize irresponsible behavior, please...
A coworker once told me her story, her husband left for parts unknown and she had kids to support. The govt trained her in a good paying job, her mother tended the kids while she went to school and after she got the job. Once she got the job, the govt agency tried to continue paying her for childcare expenses. She said thanks but no thanks....they even offered to fill out the forms for her! again she said thanks but no thanks....The education part of her govt help made sense, but trying to keep her on as a "client" after she got the job was stupid from the taxpayers point of view.....
