[h=1]Mayor Booker Recounts Fire Rescue: I'm No Hero[/h]

A day after he defied his security detail and ran into a burning house to save a woman's life, Newark Mayor Cory Booker says he's a good neighbor, not a superhero. The mayor of New Jersey's largest city was treated and released from the hospital after suffering smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hands Thursday night. With a bandage around the thumb and first finger of his right hand, Booker said he felt terror, not bravery as he dashed through the flames with the woman over his shoulder. Though many are hailing him as a hero, he said he did what anyone would have done.

wow, holy crap. This guy is impressive. Although I don't agree with much of his politics, this guy is a rock star.

This news is viral. Hearing about it everywhere. Don't know a thing about his politics personally to say anything about that but kudos mayor-man for stepping up IRL with more than just a pen.

He's an inner city liberal. But someone I have a ton of respect for. He chooses as mayor to live in one of the cities worst areas. And deeply cares about his city and its people.

Sounds like a true upstanding liberal/democrat. One not corrupted by the likes of the progressive/socialist/commies...;)

What amazes me is a thread on Willard's wife, or a Fox Poll draws hundreds of posts and one where a mayor risks his life can't draw flies.

That truly was amazing... :peace

If anyone is unfamiliar with Cory Booker's story...this is from a documentary called "Street Fight" about his struggles to get to where he is now.

Awesome. It's wonderful to read about someone displaying humanity's good side for a change. This guy really is a hero, whether he thinks so or not. It's actually rather endearing that he's so humble about it.

So far as I've seen, true heros are usually humble.

I actually remember seeing this guy on an episode of the Food Network show "Restaurant Impossible". Seemed like an extremely likable, sincere, very real guy on the show. What an amazing act to be done by anyone, let alone someone in a position such as his who we generally think in society as someone whose very focused on themselves. Hat's off to the guy. People with that kind of moral integrity and personality is who we need more of in this country.

I'm a huge fan of his. From what I've read and watched about him, he seems to be one of the few politicians out there with integrity and a sense of personal honor, and he's done a lot to completely turn around the city of Newark.

The 'hero' does what he or she does. They dont talk, they act. Dont know much about his politics but in general...for MOST people...liberal and conservative is just the 'way' they see the solution...not IF they see the problem. I dont know of too many people that arent committed to A solution...we just differ on what that looks like.

Not to take away from this story but I worked with an E8...PTSD sufferer...recounted his experience during the Kobar Towers bombing. He said there was a kid...19...maybe 20...he was a medic. Had his leg mangled in the blast. He had a tourniquet applied and was being wheeled around in an office chair conducting on-site triage. Heroes are all around us. We take so much for granted.

Have to agree, when I heard this story, I said to myself...Man, this guy is nearly a superhero.

There are numbers of these stories of ordinary citizens who step up to help their fellow citizens that never make it to the front page. That is just the way it is. Stories of eleven secret serviceman being serviced by Columbian prostitutes is what sells newspapers.

And actually if any of you saw a house of fire and knew somebody was inside, who wouldn't try to save them? I think it is something you just react to and question your sanity later.
