H.I. Larious. Just to cover my ass here, the title on the Yahoo news page is as titled here. When you click on the link and go to the story, which is the link I provided they change the headline to say: "Kyle says 'cut here'". I went with the one that was more descriptive of the two.

Retired Marine plays prank on amputation doctors

Kyle planned on a full 20-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps until Oct. 16, 2006. On patrol in Iraq, a roadside bomb exploded under Kyle's humvee. He was pulled from the smoking wreck with a severe injury to his right hand.

That would be the last day he would ever use his right hand again. And after almost two years of rehabilitation, the pain was too much. Kyle decided to have it amputated.

But he did it his own way.

Before the anesthesiologist arrived, Kyle borrowed his mother's pen to mark a dotted line all along his right wrist, adding a "cut here" message for the surgeons. Kyle had heard amputation horror stories before, about doctors getting limbs mixed up or mistaking the right appendage for the left.

About halfway through the amputation, the doctors, operating on the correct hand, saw Kyle's instruction and in Kyle's telling, laughed so hard they had to pause the surgery for 20 minutes.

Video story at the link.

I thought I'd leave one for ya
I saw this vid this morning and thought it cool. Poor guy lost his hand but kept his sense of humor.

This is, from what I know, a pretty common practice amongst doctors when they need to operate on something that a person has two of. They will mark which one/side so as to not make an error, something that has occurred in the past.

Kudos on the guy for having a sense of humor in the face of adversity

They couldn't tell the difference between a hand that was blow up by a IED and one that wasn't?
