Taking Liberties: Arrested for reading the Bible?

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

Then please ask it again and I will answer it to the best of my ability.

The occupiers were marching on public space and this man was on public space does this man deserve different treatment from the Occupiers who were basically using their right to freedom of speech like this man?

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

Yeah, you're right. Because I've never shot anyone before and I'd just woos out at the last minute like in the movies lol. I would actually shoot someone for trespassing on my property, if I felt threatened.

What culture would that be? Oh, you mean the US Marine Corps? No, you don't gain approval amongst peers for saying you'd kill someone, muslim or not. Its assumed that everyone would have no problem killing someone. Thats what we do. Killing someone is not that big of a deal in our world. Also, whats so horrifying about defending my property?

Lets see, who's more likely to actually be a tough guy. A guy whose user name is a slang for defecating or a Marine? I'm betting on the latter.

However, that wasn't the point of my post to begin with. I would shoot someone if they were carrying reading material, not carrying reading material, or anything else in their hand for that matter. Your assumption that I live in the suburbs or a city is probably the genesis for your baseless opinion about cultures, tough guys, and the like. I actually live in the country where, if someone would like to visit, they would let me know they were coming. In addition, there is no reason for any person to come down my driveway or the road my driveway is on unless they are actually coming to my home. Finally, while I am not affluent, I have affluent neighbors. A thief would more than likely associate me with the class of my neighbors and target my house. Therefore, I would shoot someone who came on my property because I live in a remote location, there is no reason to come to my home unannounced, and the wealth of my neighbors gives the impression that I am wealthy. Of course, you knew all that before you made your statements huh?

Bull****. People have come to your home unannounced and I bet you haven't shot even one of them.

But by all means, keep posturing, Mr Tough Guy.

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

If the preacher was on government property, then he has no right to force others, who cannot leave the line, to listen to his sermon. I don't care if he is Christian, Muslim, or a witch. If he wants to preach on a soapbox in a park, then by all means, he can do so, but not where government business is being conducted, and where people don't have any choice because they are standing in line for something that they are required by law to do.

A park is also govt property. But who is the govt? Is it not us?

The Mayor's Office of any town or city is also "public property" but I'd bet you won't get much farther than "God created the heav ..." when the officers come to arrest you for trespassing there.

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

Shouldn't we have free speech on government property? It's one thing if he was being loud and disturbing the peace, but its going waayyyyy to far to say that he cannot preach because people there for government business may have to hear it.

Arrest you for trespassing?

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

or to insure those who gather respect the rules and stand off distances, have medical or proper sanitation if the gathering is of any length. For some groups insurance of some sort must be presented before a permit is issued.

But right wing paranoia is focused on denial, which oddly enough is used more on liberal gatherings than 'conservative' ones.

I don't think the guy was going to camp in the parking lot. Just stand read and then go home. What you're talking about is like OWS protesting.

As to the "right wing paranoia ", I don't see how that would apply. Again this was not group of people protesting, just a guy in the DMV parking lot reading his Bible.

Since you made the sweeping statement "the government" I wanted to remind everyone that not all government land, or what some might call "public property", is really "public". There are limitations to where you can go, when you can go, and what you can do when you get there. In the case of the Mayor's Office, yes, I'm pretty sure it would be trespassing.

You mean "reading his Bible aloud".

Sorry, I thought, since I and anyone posting had read all the previous posts, it was a given. But in the future I'll insure I repeat "reading his Bible aloud" each and every post. No come to think of it I won't. Just consider it said, okay?

Eh, it was just my little protest about the thread title - it really was OK with me for you to post it that way. ;)

LOL :lamo Sure buddy, whatever you say. My goal in life is to impress the Deuces of the world:bs. You engaged in this childish exchange to begin with by suggesting the Marine Corps cultivates racist, mindless, killers. And, despite your tunnel vision opinion, there are still places in this country where people can enjoy piece and quiet without the disturbances of outsiders.

Do you know the name Col. William Lee? Leatherneck mag had an article on him several years ago, his nickname was Iron Man Lee; given to him by Chesty Puller. He won the Wimbledon Cup for shooting. To keep to the thread, he was a Bible reading man and gave 30 years of his life to see that others could do the same.

Nah, never heard of him. I'm not a big fan of Leatherneck mag. It seeks to dumb down info to the enlisted man because its assumed that we are, in fact, dumb. Not to discount the Colonel. I'm sure he was a good man. Not a fan of Chesty either. I think he was a glory hound who sent his men to the slaughter for his own accolades. The only legit Navy Cross he has is his first one from the Banana Wars. Not to divert the thread title though. Just my two cents.

Your expert legal opinion?

Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

Your expert legal opinion?
Even if I were a lawyer I wouldn't render an expert opinion on a public forum. But you can look up the laws for yourself, they're everywhere. The signs that say "employees only" and "keep out" still mean the same thing inside City Hall and the County Courthouse. Not everyone can just barge into a judges chambers or the mayors office or certain areas of the Hall of Records for that matter. Just because it's public property, as in owned by the government in some manner or other, doesn't mean everybody has free and unlimited access to the property.

Ed:
If nothing else the 8' fence and warning signs around most military bases should be enough proof of that.

He won 3 Navy Crosses, was a Japanese prisoner of war for 44 months and fought in the Banana Wars. Grand old gentleman, I had the opportunity to speak with him before he passed on. Has a shooting range named after him at Quantico. But probably wouldn't have been reading his Bible, in a parking lot, to stay on topic.
