New Orleans police officer suspended for Internet post about Trayvon Martin(edited)

Re: New Orleans police officer suspended for Internet post about Trayvon Martin(edite

What I wouldn't give to spend just a few days chilax'n in a self-righteous pool of ignorant bliss. A sanctimonious sea of euphoria where nowhere can be found a drunk irishman, a dumb blond, an aggressive pit bull, or a hoodie wearing thug. Must be nice.

First, ask yourself why a neighborhood would actually establish and maintain a neighborhood watch. Do you have one in your neighborhood? Consider what that actually means for a minute. And now go to a mirror and look yourself in the eye, and tell yourself out loud that if you were on neighborhood watch night patrol, a strange man in a hoodie wouldn't aroused the slightest bit of suspicion. If you can do that without cracking up, then the bliss pool is for you.

Sorry, but at around 7pm? No, it wouldn't arouse suspicion. But hey, that's me.

Is this the very same New Orleans police department that was hiring out as hit men a few years back?

Is this the very same NO police department that had members of the department filmed looting during Katrina?

Is this the very same NO police department that had hundreds of phony policeman on their rolls so that that money could be stolen from the tax payers?

Just asking.

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

His comment that got him fired seemed a bit racist to me. Kid was black. Wearing a hoodie. Comment was "act like a thug, die like one". The kid was walking down a street with candy and a can of tea. So I assume the now ex cop is a racist. Most are stupid and this guy is pretty much that, don't you think? lol

Do you think it is at all possible the officer was talking about the guys actions and not his skin color?

Any possibility at all?

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

A couple things.

First I think the reference to the hoodie being a thug costume is just that they are used to conceal identity especially from security cameras.

Second, if people are taking what individual officers say as evidence in the Zimmerman case, and I have seen it all over the boards as such, why would this officers general opinion carry any less weight than any other officer? He deals with thugs every day and he should know about them. I would bet a court of law would accept his opinion as an officer of the law on this very matter.

No, no possibility at all because "acting like a thug" does not mean "wearing a hoodie while eating Skittles"

you know it was raining on the night the kid was killed
would it seem so unusual for someone to wear a hood during the rain

I remember doing police "ride alongs" where the officer would mention a particular car and say that guy probably has a warrant or that guy probably has drugs in the car.

When they pulled the person over for one or multiple traffic violations, from what I witnessed they were right 100% of the time.

When you patrol and arrest people every day you get a pretty good sense of things that are suspicious.

Because TV shows never distort or sensationalize the facts

Where in my post did you see anything about tv shows?

I don't think that is what he was talking about.

I think the attack is what he was talking about.

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

Well it isn't wrong to have the opinion he stated, is it?
As far as I know it isn't.

So the only thing he did wrong was self identify as "a New Orleans Police Department employee".

Doing something like that can make it look like he was speaking "for", when he wasn't.

I feel like I am misunderstanding you, so correct me if I'm wrong: Are you saying that it isn't wrong to be of the opinion that if people act like thugs that their deaths are justified?

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

This monkey with a badge is under investigation for this and is posting his job position? Yeah, good luck getting a job as anything other than a mall cop jerk off.

No.

Its worse than that.

He is under investigation for a shooting incident if I read correctly.

The guy is a colossal moron for making a comment such as this while under investigation for an unrelated shooting incident.

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

Actually...that's a damn good point. Which makes us all...what? Flawed in some way with our perception?
Still, even if the kid had a hoodie on, was walking a street at night, in a gated community on the sidewalk....common sense should make the brain click that this is exactly that..a kid walking on a street in a gated community. Not hiding. Not skulking. Not running from car to car and ducking. Does he deserve to be approached by a guy with a gun?

Its his actions OUTSIDE of just walking on the street that brought attention to him.

Sadly, the only person who knows what those actions are happen to come from the person who killed him. So of course nobody wants to trust that guy's instinct.

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

Jay-Z is a gangster much in the same way Eminem is still a white man angry at his level poverty and fighting to give his daughters a better life. I think there comes a time where your art becomes nothing more than your past and you just pretend you're still in the same circumstances that made you famous.

I ****ing hate rap music.......

But even I can agree with this statement.

Re: Act like a thug die like one!

Most people aren't racist (they are out there, but not as much the race baiters make it seem like), but they are scared **** of criminals. People are perceived by their appearance. If you look a certain way, you will be looked as such.
When you dress like a thug, you get treated that way......right or wrong, its a fact

This is true.

A couple of my buddies and I were talking about the types of suspicious person calls we get often.

The single guy with no life was thinking of dressing in all black one night and coming into the neighborhoods in our area and walking around.... seeing how many calls he gets put on him.

I suggested he wear a hoodie and some fake dreads... because guys in dreads ALWAYS get called on in the area we work.
