simply due to his age? no.
other health factors should be considered.
Like....pre existing conditions, lol?

No 70+ year old should have any sort of transplant... it is a waste of money and resources.. no wonder the US healthcare industry is so screwed up.. money and influence trumps over logic.
We can always count on our American-hating member to provide the usual hate speech.
do you just accuse folks of being "American-hating" whenever they say something you disagree with?
Right, because PeteEU never has any negative thing to say about the US. LOL
yes.
what's so funny?
I'm not familiar with his posts.
Dick Cheney receives heart transplant - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Vice President Cheney. I disagree with him on almost every issue, but I must say, his sense of humor works for me. Being opposed on politics does not mean we should demonize nor hate those we disagree with.

this heart, may give Dick another 5 years.
I wonder how many years it may have given a much younger & healthier person.
In another thread I was asking for a reality check in regard to health and recovery for the elderly - so I'll feed it in here.
Honestly - he shouldn't have accepted the transplant. He should have said 'no'. He's 71. How much longer will he live? What will he do with his future? He'll live, what - 15 more years, maybe? IF he makes it past the initial recovery period?
How many more elligible people - mothers, fathers, teachers - are on transplant lists who could live for 30, 40 or 50 more years and have much more of a possitive impact on teh world and society and their families lives than Cheney?
We don't have socialized healthcare, not even with Obamacare. What do you think your chances are if you are 70+ that your private insurer will cover the expense? Lots of luck Charley. And this attitude is exactly what scares me about socialized health care.

We don't know how long he was on the waiting list for. Maybe he has waited for a very long time for this heart. To be honest though I think as far as healthcare goes, we do far more damage by spending tons of money via Medicaid so that many individuals can abuse the system to get their $400 skin creams and sex aids (like Viagra/birth control) at the expense of the state.

Viagra is not covered by medicaid.
Skin creams are hardly trivial, skin conditions can be very painful (as you'll know its where most of the nerves are) and its does cover your entire body

I've seen it done. Legally they aren't supposed to pay for it, but they can work around that by having the prescriber say it is to treat hypertension or something non-sexually related. It's technically insurance fraud at the prescribers side of things, but it does happen.
So lets see... heart to a 70+ year old with many decades of health problems, who has lived his life... or the heart to a 30 year old with many decades of productive life ahead of him... hmmm yea that is one hell of a scary call you got to make there... better choose the guy with the most MONEY!
