Thousands of people marched in Philadelphia to protest the shooting in Florida of an unarmed black teenager, joining a growing national storm over racism.
The unusually large demonstration for Philadelphia, which was comprised mostly of African Americans, followed protests in Florida and New York.
The protests are dubbed “Million Hoodie Marches” in memory of the victim, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was reportedly wearing a hoodie sweatshirt when he was shot last month in a gated community by a white volunteer security guard.

Reggie Conquest, 24, explained the symbolism of the hoodie and the suspicions that many black men face in urban settings.
“Being a big black guy, people get startled. They walk across the street. I’m a nice guy. When I see that, I take off my hoodie. I don’t want to startle nobody,” he said.
Late Thursday, up to 20,000 people rallied in the Florida town of Sanford, where Martin was killed by George Zimmerman.

I can support this 100%. People coming out to protest a violent, senseless act of murder, behind all the police misconduct...

I think a lot of people have too much time on their hands.

And all we know about this for sure is that it was tragic. Whether it was 'murder' remains to be seen.

However, it seems clear that if any of the protesters say anything intimidating, they are instigators of violence and can be beat and kicked at will as long as anyone wants to. If any protestors fight back they must be arrested because they instigated the violence.

Not that I doubt there could be violence at one of these marches, but why go out of your way to preemptively justify violence against the protesters?

I read somewhere there are 35-45 murders/day in the US. Wonder why the other 34-44 don't get the same attention at this one? It was a tragic event. It a shame the negative press for "watch programs" this is bringing. Yet, I can't help but think that the news media and others are drawing way to much attention to it. It is one murder out of a bunch that happens each day. Let the law and the court deal with it.

the unusual cirumstances of the killing, and the background of the killer, explains it all.

Maybe so. I think that with all the news coverage so far, the jury pool is tainted.

Idiotic. It didn't happen in Philadelphia, exactly who is it in that city that they are protesting? Nobody? Go the hell home!

so, if an event doesn't happen in your home city, you shouldn't show support for the victim, in you home city?

so much for freedom of speech.

These people need jobs.

You are hating them because they are protesting, speaking their minds in unity by using their first amendment rights to calls for an investigation of this crime..

These people need jobs.

How do you know they are unemployed? Its the weekend... And who cares if they are unemployed...
****ing ignorance of some people...

never heard of vacation time?

why are you attacking people, for peacefully expressing their opinions?

isn't that what freedom of speech is all about?

Yes, thousands of people took vacation time at the same time so they could walk down the street together.

Tell us another one.

So where are you getting the idea that they are unemployed? Is it because right at this second they are not at work and are instead marching down the streets? Wait why arent you at work!? Shouldnt you instead of being on DP!? WORK SLAVE!

he shot and killed an unarmed 17-year old.

sadly this happens all the time-especially in black neighborhoods. It happens several times a month in Cincinnati. Why don't racist muckrakers like Sharpton lead marches over black on black crime.

BASED ON WHAT I HAVE SEEN and based on the fact that I am an expert on justifiable use of deadly force, upon INFORMATION AND BELIEF, ZImmerman's shooting of this young man as an act of self defense is highly dubious. BUT the shootings of many other young black men are far far more premeditated and heinous and garner NO attention by those who want to use this boy's death to stir up racial divides in this country or to whine about what some minorities see as a "white right"

interesting claim.

what evidence do you have that Sharpton has never spoken out or led a march against black-on-black crime?

What evidence do you have that he has? At least my question to you Thunder is asking you to prove a positive, not as yours asks TD to prove a negative.

TD originated the claim.

yes, his claim is a negative one, but claims still require evidence.

othewise, its just baseless.

and yes, negative claims can be baseless.
