It may or may not be discriminatory but it is undeniably unconstitutional and unequal. Separate is not equal doesnt just apply to toilets, lunch counters, and water fountains. And no the word isnt the only issue. Its the fact that they will be separate institutions and therefor unequal.

Its not about equality at all...Its abou indoctrinationon that the gay lifestyle is a suitable alternate lifestyle and to teach that to our children in that manner...........I don't care what gays or what straights do in the privacy of their bedrooms..I just don't want to know about it....Gays will answer to their maker on the day of reckoning.

It's all about equality, and no matter what you say or do, my generation will not be plagued by the hatred of LGBT people like your generation was, and I am damn glad that is the case.

And it's clear that you do want to know about considering your interest in these threads, and you know, if SSM was allowed, we'd shut up about wanting it. It's amazing how you rationalize your support of bigoted legislation.

No matter what you say I hate no one...I want gays to have the same rights I have but not marriage......You already changed the meaning of gay forever....It use to be a child can say as someone who is very happy..........You can call your unions anything you want....Why do you want to defile Holy Matrimony a name that is very special to a lot of us........Some of us have even berrn married for 46 years......Its special.....I support Civil Unions with equal rights but you and I both know it is not even about marriage.

Navy...you were against civil unions as well, until gay marriage became a threatening reality to you, NOW all of a sudden you are in favor of civil unions? The reality is, those who claim that "marriage" is "sacred" are oftentimes those who do more damage to "marriage" than anyone else. Marriage is about love and respect, it is not about politics and hate. This is something that the vast majority of America is coming to understand. You are losing the battle, the numbers are changing every day.

Civil unions are not recognized on a federal level. Only marriages are.

The first civil unions in the United States were offered by the state of Vermont in 2000. The federal government does not recognize these unions, and under the U.S. Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 (DOMA), other U.S. states are not obligated to recognize them.

So even if a state gives full legal benefits to a civil union for SSM it is not recognized on a federal level.

I know same sex couples who have been together for a hell of a lot longer than 10 years.

If you really supported civil unions for same sex couples then you would be shooting to get the government out of marriage entirely and leaving "holy matrimony" for the churches.

You should read up on the history of the word before you make the claim that homosexuals changed the meaning of "gay"...

I honestly have no interest in defiling anything, but sometimes comments like this make we want to go piss in a Church or something.

Love is what's special. Bigotry deserves to be defiled.

Actually, there is really just an absence of federal law. But don't worry, it really is only a matter of time before such marriages are recognized nationally. Is just sad to see the bigotry of some.

Agreed. Additionally, This is not a States Right issue because of the tax break a married couple gets on the Federal Income Tax.

You mean like the indoctrination that took place that taught children that being in interracial relationships was a suitable alternate lifestyle?
