Texas Medicaid Funds Cut Over Planned Parenthood

Not Buying Me Something = Taking It From Me

what, you want me to get a job and earn money and buy it myself? what are you, some kind of woman-hating fascist?

What if you have no job or money? In Texas you are out of luck.
Texas already gets the most money from the Feds of any state. Over $1.27 for every tax dollar they send to Washington. Like most Red States, sucking at the Fed Govt. teat is what they do best. I wish they would succeed and save us some bucks.

Actually, IIRC, Texas is one that more or less breaks even.
But you're right, most of the States on Fed Welfare are Red. ;)

That would be because most of the wealthiest americans live in blue states, like CT.

Federal law prohibits Medicare/Medicade funding from being used for abortion. Texas just took a step to prevent fraud by not allowing abortion clinics to code procedures inaccurately.

That's a bunch of crap, this was all about politics. If this had been done for non-political reasons, they would've excluded hospitals that do elective abortions. They didn't, they just specify that tax dollars can't be used to fund them.

Are you saying fraud is legal in Texas?
Or are you saying coding the procedures inaccurately isn't fraud?
Or both? :lamo

It isn't really a contract when one side can unilaterally change anything and everything about the arrangement as they desire.

Yes it is lol. When ever the fed offers new money for other programs its renegotiating the contact. The state can say no but they won't get the fed dollars. Sorta like a cell phone contract.

Part of the reason why repubs want to make these programs block grants is to remove the contract nature of the money the fed gives to these stares, allowing the state to do whatever it wants and always get the money, removing the strings

The Fed doesn't negotiate. The Fed dictates.

Just like every cell phone company in America. The "take,it or,leave it approach" is why contacts typically work.

No, with the cell phone company, it's "take any one of these packages we offer or get your service somewhere else."

True, but thats the natural relationship between the fed and,the states inreards to the purse strings. what the states/people can do is vote in other people which often happens.

The fed does a lot of things that take away states rights that many consider unconstitutional; however, this isn't one off them
Additionally, the cell phone company isn't free to change the terms of the agreement whenever they please.

Reread your contact, they can and do. This doesn't just happen with cell phones.

Texas does have budget shotfalls, just like many other states, however, the state is taking the approach of cutting expences instead of raising taxes. This is royally pissing off liberals because the two largest portions of the budget are Education (43.3%) and Heath and Human Services (31.6%). However, the federal government only provides 32.4% of budgeted dollars (thats total, not any particular program). To help try to balance out the budget, the state is targeting Medicaid heavily. Part of this was cutting family planning funding from $111 million to $37 million, with the bar to those who provide abortions, the state is able to still provide services (other than abortion) while cutting the budget. It should also be noted that the state heavily cut Medicaid entitlements in general, this may be considered limiting the choice of providers by some, but the limit is actually providers who will no longer accept medicaid patients at the pay the state funds.

Planned Parenthood in this case is the one limiting womens choices, not the state, if Planned Parenthood would drop abortions, they would have the funding (at the reduced rate everyone else is getting). By the Federal Government cutting off all funding for womens health, they are hurting the women of Texas, all in the name of supporting taxpayer funded abortion. The state is trying to balance budgets, many, perhaps most of the state does not support tax monies going for abortion, so if something has to be cut, that is a logical choice to make and again, the only ones limiting womens choices of healthcare providers is the ones who refuse to drop abortion, not the state.

Once again, Texas is at odds with the Federal Government, just like:

Voter ID requirement
Redistricting based upon population instead of guarenteed minority representation
Immigration reform
EPA/Federal restrictions that cost the state jobs
Taxes
Gun rights
Open/concealed carry
Affirmative Action
Workfare vs Welfare,

etc,etc, etc.

So, the State of Texas doesn't want to pay for abortions when a rapist, father, brother, uncle, etc. impregnates a woman.

And they want to save the unborn baby even if it kills the mother.

I get it! When a man loves a woman in Texas his baby should be born even if it was his daughter/sister/mother or the girl next door that told him to get lost. :screwy

I wasn't arguing constitutionality, I was arguing whether or not this arrangement constitutes a contract.

I guess it depends on who you get your service from. My boss had a great unlimited plan for years until his phone was so old the network didn't support it anymore.

False dilemma. Hospitals are still able to participate, and the only caveat there is that tax dollars can't be use to fund elective abortions performed there.

This isn't simply a matter of budget-cutting, the state government took a stance motivated strictly by politics. It is a stance which doesn't mesh with the Federal government's policy, so the Federal government responded accordingly.
