Explosive Growth of Militias

Uh, no, actually, it was two militias communicating with each other about a nutjob they wanted no part of.

If you're right, you shouldn't have to lie about it.

Actually it's two militias communicating about another militia which they think has crossed the line into TREASON and which they believe is very dangerous.

No, I didn't miss it at all. There's a lot of contradictory **** on their website. Were you actually expecting them to make explicit threats on a public web page? Basically what it all boils down to is that they're not going to "start anything" ... but if the government does something they disagree with ... well ... that's the GUBMINT startin' somethin'!!

 I think you need considerably more than that to "suspect" them of "terrorism," especially in any legal sense.

:doh No, it wasn't "another militia," it was a nutjob who's seen too many Kevin Costner movies.

 I think you need considerably more than that to "suspect" them of "terrorism," especially in any legal sense.

I don't think there is any legal requirement that prevents me or anyone else from being suspicious of them. Their own materials, which I'm sure they consider quite guarded, are more than sufficient to raise my suspicions and I would be very surprised if they aren't being monitored by the FBI.

Instead of focusing on the (mostly freakish) militias that were cited to me as being legitimate, perhaps I should try a wider search....

The FBI conducted weekend raids in three states and arrested eight people tied to a Michigan-based militia group that authorities say was conspiring to kill police officers.

Nine suspects tied to a militia in the Midwest are charged with conspiring to kill police officers, then attack a funeral in the hopes of killing more law enforcement people, federal prosecutors said Monday.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said agents moved on the group because the Hutaree members were planning a violent reconnaissance mission sometime in April — just a few days away.

Members of the group called Hutaree are charged in the case, including their leader, David Brian Stone, also known as “Captain Hutaree.”

Once other officers gathered for a slain officer’s funeral, the group planned to detonate homemade bombs at the funeral, killing more, according to newly unsealed court papers.

The indictment includes charges of seditious conspiracy, possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, teaching the use of explosives, and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction — homemade bombs.

DETROIT — Joshua Clough is the first of the Lenawee County-based militia group Hutaree convicted in an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

Clough, formerly of the Blissfield area, entered into a plea agreement Monday with federal prosecutors in U.S. District Court, pleading guilty to using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

The plea deal calls for Clough, 29, to serve up to five years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 16 by Judge Victoria Roberts.

Clough and eight others were the targets of federal raids in March, 2010, into the Hutaree, an antigovernment militia organization that advocated, and prepared for, violent attacks on law enforcement.

Seven other defendants in the case are scheduled for trial Feb. 7 on other charges, including sedition and using weapons of mass destruction.

The ninth defendant, Jacob Ward, has been declared incompetent to stand trial.

ATLANTA (AP) – A suspected member of a fringe north Georgia militia group intended to use the plot of an online novel as a model for plans to attack U.S. federal law officers and others, authorities said.

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A reputed leader of an alleged anti-government militia has been arrested and charged with possessing an unregistered machine gun at his home in Birmingham. The arrest of William J. Hudson on Thursday came several days after five men pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Birmingham.

North American Militia members convicted for plotting terrorism

[January 29, 1999]

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lloyd Meyer called the verdict "tremendous" even though jurors rejected three counts of a nine-count indictment against North American Militia member Randy Graham. "An armed and dangerous man is no longer walking the streets," Meyer said, according to the Associated Press.

Graham, 42, was convicted of plotting to blow up federal property and threatening to attack and murder government officials. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 5, 1999. In addition to these charges, Graham was found guilty of growing marijuana to finance the conspiracy. The federal jury acquitted Graham on charges of possessing illegal machine guns seized from another militia member's home.

Guess you can add Arizona to the list. This year the State govt approved the formation of a all volunteer State Guard, (not to be confused with the National Guard).
I can just imagine this will add fuel to the fire that Arizona has to be a "racist" State. :

As the Rev said, not all militias are the same. It seems some groups like to lump everything togeather.

these "Militias" are just a bunch of silly men playing with guns. they are no worry.

not until they decide to shoot up a court house or blow up a Federal building.

I don't think there is any legal requirement that prevents me or anyone else from being suspicious of them.

There is when you wish to get the FBI involved, or even say that they are. But equivocate all you like, I guess.

I responded. Unless I misunderstood the question and he wanted list from within the report. I support these groups existing, for many reasons, and I would not call them nuts or paranoid.

What, specifically, makes them "suspected terrorists"?

Hey, DHS even thinks returning vets have a potential to be terrorists, so it doesn't take rocket science to extend this to militias.

No, I don't want to indict everyone. I just want paramilitary organizations operating within our borders and openly proclaiming that they will make their own constitutional determinations and possibly react violently if they disagree with the government's interpretations ... to be under observation.

No, I don't want to indict everyone.

You're trying awfully hard to do it . . .

I just want paramilitary organizations operating within our borders and openly proclaiming that they will make their own constitutional determinations and possibly react violently if they disagree with the government's interpretations ... to be under observation.

Lee Harvey Oswald.

The D.C. Sniper.

The Fort Hood Shooter.

Timothy McVeigh.

Eric Rudolph.

...veterans can indeed become terrorists, and have become terrorists. Just sayin'.

While I appreciate your mind reading skills, I think I'm probably a better judge of what I think than you are.
