Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

Ummm... no, that's not why they got upset, IF they got upset. They got upset because another team was being offensive, rudely chanting "USA, USA", implying that because they were Hispanic, they were not American.

and i would imagine a few of them are not American
and those that are American are going to be upset because the other team chanted USA USA?

Well I'll tell ya why...because I dont need to. Ive seen it played out here enough times to know what will happen. It will devolve within 15 threads to omigosh the white people are complaining about how 'unfair' everything is, mixed in liberally with "just because these people did that doesnt mean everyone does that (no ****...but then why the incessant creation of ANY of the 'racism' threads?). It is predictable...but enough to point out the reality...there are people that LOOK for 'racism' in JOKES for Gods sake that will never give this kind of thing a second look.

That's just your own assumption. Just like there will be people like that in THAT thread, there are people in THIS thread who say, "oh, this is no big deal... they should get over it".

For what I have read this was not a game of Mexico against USA. They were all Americans! So what's the problem of chanting USA USA?

A storm in a teacup, that's all it is, in my opinion

Because of the insinuation that the other team is NOT American, despite the fact that they were. It is reflection of the attitude of the students at that school.

Agreed.

You make good points. I don't think it's a big deal to chant "USA," period. What next, it's offensive to wear a t-shirt with an American flag on it?

I dont care if it WAS 'racist' that they chanted 'USA'. People oughta maybe grow the **** up a little bit and get some perspective. Oh noes...they said USA and now we haz a sad! THIS is the kind of thing we bitch about in this country.

From the United States of America, that's what i meant! :)

And if both teams are from the USA, why would ONE feel the need to chant "USA, USA"?

And if both teams are from the USA, why would ONE feel the need to chant "USA, USA"?

there was nothing that kept the other side from also chanting USA - except themselves

And if it was a game against Mexico, people would still chant USA.

I hate that it's used in such a loose manner.
The accusation should be serious, because racism is pretty nasty.

Ethnic superiority, meh, lots of people do this all the time.
Whether or not they realize it.
Why is racism "nasty" and ethnic superiority "meh"?

And if it was a game against Mexico, people would still chant USA.

THAT would be different, since both teams were NOT from the USA.

not true
in my community - after a federal judge ruled the system now 'unitary' [it wasn't] the schools are re-segregated
in many there are NO white students. in a community where whites are in the majority
we have gerrymandered the attendance lines, just as we have gerrymandered the political districts
this re-segregation did not happen by chance

Do you think people group together based on cultural and racial dissimilarity?
Hardly the case.

Often, and especially with recent immigrant Hispanic groups, they tend to group based on common factors.
It's segregated based on the fact that these Hispanics decided to live near, other Hispanics.

Chanting "USA" does NOT apply that because they were Hispanic, they were not American. No one knows their true purpose of chanting "USA" Some overly sensitive crybaby took it out of context, and now it is deemed "racist".

if was spot on in reply to your previous post:

No, it was completely irrelevant to the issue. Now, do you want to answer my question that you originally quoted, or are you going to continue to present red herrings?

So it was the Hispanics that need to grow up? Not the high schoolers who never learned to respect others?

Then YOU try to answer my question:

And if both teams are from the USA, why would ONE feel the need to chant "USA, USA"?

Yes...I remember chanting of USA at every high school football game...it's soooooo normal!

that kind of lemming-think is what cracks me up
but then i also appreciate good smack expressed on the ball field or playing court

Apparently even racist smack cracks you up. Good for you.

U.S. News - Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

Hmmm, I didn't know that the USA consisted of white people only.

What really burns my blood is that you can not possibly imagine the stuff my daughter has heard playing basketball and running in track meets at predominantly black schools, but MSNBC wouldn't be the least bit interested in a story like that.

Double standards run amuck.

It looks like the PC retards running amok in Texas.

That's just your own assumption. Just like there will be people like that in THAT thread, there are people in THIS thread who say, "oh, this is no big deal... they should get over it".
Exactly correct...but the assumption is based on what has happened with virtually every thread started where racism from the 'white' perspective HAS been started. And get over what exactly? Oh noes...my feelings is hurt because they chanted USA? If the people that were upset had a half a brain in their head they would have joined in the chant. Think about how THAT would have worked out. OBVIOUSLY they were and are proud Americans and proud to have escaped FROM that rathole south of the border...so joining in would have made perfect sense AND shut them up.

So it was the Hispanics that need to grow up? Not the high schoolers who never learned to respect others?
Anyone that gets their panties twisted about this kind of stuff needs to grow up and get a little perspective on what is actually going on in the 'real' world. And those 'hispanics' living in America probably should have simply JOINED IN THE CHANT. USA USA!!! Not that ****ing rathole we escaped from...USA USA!!!

Seeing as they just lost to the opposing team, I think we can rule out cheering them on and chanting USA along with them as a viable option.
