Claim surfaces of Anne Frank baptism by Mormons - Times Union

A new claim has surfaced that the Mormon church has posthumously baptized a Holocaust victim, this time Anne Frank.
The allegations come just a week after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints apologized when it was brought to light that the parents of Holocaust survivor and Jewish rights advocate Simon Wiesenthal were posthumously baptized by church members at temples in Arizona and Utah in late January.

Hmmm. Now they can come for us even when wer're dead. (Not referrering to the Mormons, just the infamous "they" that will eventually come for all us if no one stands up). I guess now we need to provide rights to the deceased.

While a agree that batizing Anne Franks is kinda weird and I don't get it, I also don't understand why anyone would care what the Mormons are doing.

If they want to symbolically baptize Anne Frank, who cares?

I don't understand this concept of posthumously baptizing others, but I can see how one would be offended in that Anne Frank was Jewish. I know I'd be more than a little annoyed if one of my relatives who weren't of the Christian faith were chosen to be baptized through a surrogate.

A lot of people value their religion very highly, baptizing someone is initiating them into another religion.

I wouldn't be offended by any sincere, goodwill effort on my spiritual behalf.

They way I see it, if I'm involved in religion-X, then religion-Y, religion-Z, and religion-Q are all illegitimate and essentially unimportant. If somebody from religion-Z decides to perform some sort of ritual ceremony in relation to one of my relatives then more power to 'em. Their actions are worthless.

That said, even if all religions have legitimacy, who the hell cares? Without the consent of the dead in the presence of god nothing the living do really matters.

I dunno, in a sense, I can understand, but baptizing those who don't have a choice and are known to be of another religious denomination is quite arrogant to me.

The dead have a choice to accept the baptism or not. Or so the Mormons tell me.

... you are assuming they don't have a choice... the Mormons assume the exact opposite.

it's wierd that all the hubub is from Jews being posthumously baptised-by-proxy.

really people, it's not like the Mormons are saying " here we go, let's wash all that jeweyness off of you".... do just a little bit of reading on the subject, it's not a complicated rite/ritual

Isn't that what baptism is saying, "Here, you had a different belief, we will cleanse you and now you will be saved (or whatever)"?

Does not change the fact the poor girl lived as a Jew and died a Jew.

That's the point. She lived as she wished and fought hard for that, if that happened to me I would hope someone would stand up stand say "Stop trying to devalue her beliefs".

So wait--"baptism" by another faith is an attempt to "devalue" Ann Frank's beliefs?

Not buying it.

That's weird, but not something to get angry about.

They are trying to co-op this figure and her Jewishness for their own purposes. That is an element of what occurred in with the NAZIs for an entire people.

I dunno, it bothers me when someone says "I'll pray for you" in a condesceding tone, like I can't take care of my own beliefs, or that theirs are somehow superior to mine. Or when they try to "save me" because I don't subscribe to what they believe. This is sort of the same thing.

hmm.. makes me wonder why they also performed a proxy baptism on Hitler and Himmler....are they trying to co-opt their Naziness for their own purposes?

I've been personally involved in 2 proxy baptisms( nearly 20 years ago, when i was a member of the Priesthood in good standing)... it's really not a nefarious deal at all... it's a very lovely service... its basically an attempt to provide the deceased with the covenants required to enter into the Kingdom of God... if the covenants are not needed or not wanted, they can be declined by the spirit of the deceased.

the main reason Jews are against this is because it's against Jewish law to contact the dead...

and if you find yourself in the afterlife without the proper covenants to get inside the pearly gates.. wouldn't you appreciate someone offering them to you?

or maybe you find yourself already prepared and worthy for entry... and can say " no thanks, i'm good..."

where's the harm?

What if you don't want anybody acting on behalf of you to enter the kingdom of god?
