Afghans Protest Alleged Koran Desecration

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

I have to many infraction points to call you what you are. Wait about a week and I will have enough credit to do it though.

Once you have accumulated enough credit, just speak your mind pls.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

You sound just as extreme as those who kill people in retaliation for a couple of burnt books, you know that right?

I am a wee bit more extreme than the laws in Singapore. Here they will be charged under the Sedition Act.

Ah. Well, the civilized world doesn't put people to death for burning books, whether the act was intentional or not.

It was insinuated by one of your comrades. So I said ok.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

Well, I hardly think anything Obama says here will gain anything politically - it's not the crazy violent Afghans who are voting for him, and the people he's trying to appease with those apologies aren't voting for him either. And in all honesty I don't think anything he says will affect the behavior of these Afghans who are killing folks. If you're a Pashtun and you're already set on committing violence, are the words of some President halfway around the world really supposed to have an effect on you? I'm not sure but I'm probably gonna go with no.

No, no, no. I didn't mean to appease to the Afghanis. Screw them. I meant to US. THE MILITARY. I'll just tell you most military member's view of Obama. First, to be fair, he had a hard act to follow in W Bush. The guy was so pro-military its ridiculous. Sure, he sent us to war. However, he took very good care of us. Thats why you hardly ever heard a servicemember complain about deploying when he was POTUS. Bush understood that if he was going to deploy us that much, he had to take care of us. Now, regarding Obama, this is the view. We have fought for this country for 10 plus years. This guy comes in and says he's cutting a lot of us out, he's entertaining cutting benefits that many of us reenlisted for, some of us feel he is using us as a social petri dish (DADT/women in combat), he can't pronounce Corpsman properly, and he couples good comments about us with a campaign speech disguised as a SOTU. Not to mention all of the fiscal cuts being made that severely hamper our ability to train. He's being viewed in the same light as Clinton. We didn't like him very much either. Of course, this leads to a bigger issue that is for another thread: How to stop these expansions and contractions of military spending.

So, in other words, it was an exercise in hyperbole. Good exercise! You have effectively strengthened your bloviation muscles.

Yeah, cool it man. This is just a friendly forum.

You would think lol. Wait till you've been here a while. There are a few individuals on here that love to tear people down, make it unenjoyable, and try to embarass people to the extreme. Some, like me, will poke at you in jest. Some, to remain unnamed, will act like you punched their mom in the face or something if you disagree with them or prove them wrong.

You would certainly know how military folk feel better than I would, but I think those feelings are not based on facts. As a factual matter, Democrats consistently supported measures to benefit the troops more than Bush and the Republicans, from pay raises, to the GI bill, to VA funding, to shorter deployments, and all down the line. Of course Bush said all the right things and never passed up a photo op, but in terms of what he actually DID I think he treated the troops like dog ****.

I been there. Came across all sorts. They still have to toe the line here.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

We should never have apologized.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

It's what civilised people do. Damage limitation is also done by the sensible.

Conservatism means never having to say you're sorry.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

Yeah, look how well it's worked so far.

Seems to have worked fine.

LOL, ok. The response to burning a few papers has sure been measured and reasonable.

Do you think the response would have been more measured if we hadn't apologized?

I don't think it's made anything better. In fact, it might have made things worse by emboldening those who want to **** with us. Do you really think people who think this level of violence is ok are going to be swayed by an apology? It sure doesn't appear so.

Well there's no doubt that there's freaks and idiots in the world. But that doesn't mean we have to act like them. I kinda like that we're above all that.
Where did we even come near to acting like them? Seriously, you think burning quran used as a terrorists' terror manual as trash together with other disposal trash constitutes acting like these savages? Or do you think we should just return the terror manual to them so they could carry-out the violent instructions written on the sidebar?
