Afghans Protest Alleged Koran Desecration

I have a feeling the base CO might find his next posting somewhere in sunny Antarctica.

Whatever is right. War is war, you can not be politically correct in war, trying to win a war in a politically correct way is moronic in all honestly.

No wars have ever been won in a "politically correct way".

its not about being politically correct its about knowing your surroundings. When I was deployed to Iraq we spent hours in the classroom learning about the people of southern Iraq, their cultures and beliefs. What your talking about is total war which is not relevant in Afgahn. The soldiers that go their are fighting the taliban and al qaeda and are supposed to be setting a legacy of western democracy that will last after we are gone and will hopefully stop history repeating itself. The russians bombed the crap out of the afghan people and not only lost the war but started a decade of military regime under the taliban, to simply just bomb the locals as your suggesting not onlt spits on the memory of the solderis that died in Afghan it also shows that you (mya) learned nothing from that attacks of 9/11 and alsmost welcome such attacks again.

It demonstrates the ability to place things in perspective. People will attack for any reason or no reason at all, but, not solely because the Koran was burned. That does not smack of reality.

Sure I do, but, this isolated event and 9/11 makes no sense to me. There were many reasons for those targets and several attempts prior to 9/11.

my point being that if the West continues to underestimate the importance of the relgion of Isam and tries to down play it and westernize it then we invite attacks like 9/11

The west has not underestimated the importance of Islam by any means. Go to the classroom and learn all you want...but don't go to war then , war is total obliteration .... you are in an attack mode...no time for niceties.

Truth. Terrorists gain recruits partly by claiming the West is anti-Islamic. This isn't true, but when Western bombs are falling in Islamic countries, what should a farmer's son believe? So one of the most important objectives in Afghanistan is proving the West is NOT anti-Islamic. That Democracy and Islam can exist hand in hand and in peace. But when Westerners burn Qur'ans, it contradicts what the West is trying to say. It threatens a primary mission goal.

not really, you have never been to a hostile region never met the local familes, kids, women trying to get on with their lifes and hoping that maybe you will be able to provide some stability to their lifes. The conflicts we are inviolved in today are not total war situations where you can just carpet bomb the problem away. The guys that sign up for this know what they are getting into and they are trained of this. Im feel sorry for you that you dont see the big picture and only see an enemy rather than people. I hope that one day you will be able to open your mind and see the people that are really affected by all this.
