Va. House GOP muscles through abortion curbs

Absolutely outrageous. It's outrageous to force any woman to have an ultrasound before exercising her legal and constitutionally-protected right to choose. But this procedure is selected specifically to further humiliate the woman, by having her hoist her naked extremities into stirrups while a foreign object is put into her vagina.

Words cannot express how infuriating this is to me.

i didn't know they were this crazy, in Virginia.

No, its a government regulation when one asks for a procedure. Similar to getting a driver's license, you accept the rules and regulations of the contract you've asked to be a party to.

Can you give me another instance of government mandating medical procedures on unwilling patients that does not include women wishing an abortion?

he's gonna mention required pre-op procedures.

however, this thread isn't talking about a pre-op procedure, in any sense of the word.

its a purely elective procedure, utterly unrelated to the abortion.

its a government mandated violaton of a woman's private parts, and its ****ing disgusting.

the Virginia legislature is filled with some God damned pigs, I tell ya.

sure. eugenics-driven sterilization.

but this is just the beginning. :) Government Should Run Healthcare After All.

that's what I don't get about ya'll who are supporting the HHS mandates, and the general expanding power of the Federal Government to dictate our healthcare to us. do you think that we will never have a socially conservative President, or a President who has to placate a socially conservative base, and see's that as a means to do it?

You nailed it!! They want to give the government the power to run their lives and then complain when the government does so. These are not people who spend much time considering consequences.

Yet another instance of the patriarchy trying to oppress a woman's right to choose, and this time it's in a very graphic, violating way that IMO is analagous to rape. It violates medical ethics, established freedoms, and even if you're against abortion, this is not how you tackle the issue. That said, this is just another issue for the SCOTUS chopping block. There's no way you can force a medical procedure, or an economic product (ultra sound), onto people.

The social conservatives behind this law, and its supporters, are scum. If you support probing a woman's vagina in order for her to exercise the right to choose, you are also scum. Full stop.

You want government to run the health care system and then complain when they do?

Do you want government run health care or don't you?

Once you're in there is no way out. It's best you understand that now..

This is do dishonest it's not even funny.

Especially coming from a Canadian.

In Canada the health care is run by the provincial governments yes.

But they don't have the right to force a medical procedure on you that's not nessecary.

They certainly can if they choose to. They can also make illegal any procedure or alternative treatment they choose to make illegal. They can forbid various foods from being imported because they feel it might cause obesity, for example. They have done all of this and are continuing to do so.

Once the government is in charge of your body they can pretty much do anything they want.

What's to stop them? Good will?

So there are no instances of the Provincial Government of any province forcing someone to have a medical procedure that was unnessecary?

I know of certain provinces that won't pay for certain procedures for various reasons but that's no different to what an HMO can do...

Again you are being dishonest.

Ah so you think governments role should be to force unessecary medical procedures on woman...

That's pretty interesting for a "Small Government Conservative" to say.

Nobody's being forced to do anything.

Women can choose not to get abortions, and then they won't be mandated to do anything.

The Government should not be mandating mandatory medical tests that have no medical reason for them being conducted, especially tests that come at the expense of the person. There is no medical reason, what so ever, for this procedure to occur. This is the government mandating to a citizen that they must purchase a specific good or service (a vaginal ultrasound). That's absolutely and unquestionably not the role or puprose of government. This is wrong and is a stark violation of conservative ideology unless one entirely discards the notion of small and limited government in favor of big Social Conservatism. Should we strive to reduce and perhaps even eliminate abortions? Absolutely. However, the method to do that should not be empowering the state with authority it has no business having, mandating that private citizens purchase unnecessary services, and expanding the power of the state. This is plainly and completely wrong.

However, forgive me if I don't really care about the indignation or crying by the democratic delogate when one of her collegues felt that two wrongs makes a right and that having things forcefully shoved into men was also the correct course of legislative action to take.

As a Virginian, this legislation troubles me greatly. I don't want the Virginia State Legislature having power over what medical procedures I should or should not be undertaking and this gives them that power.

Zyphlin again showing his liberal colors. Protecting life is a conservative issue.

they are being FORCED to undergo a totally elective & VERY invasive procedure, under the force of law.

this law, is so unConstitutional that I'm astounded the people have risen up.

If they choose not to have an abortion, then they aren't being forced to do anything.

If they choose not to have an abortion, then they aren't being forced to do anything.

that's great.

meanwhile, if they CHOOSE to have an abortion, they will they be FORCED to undergo this procedure...or possibly go to jail.

and if a doctor CHOOSES not to do this procedure HE will go to jail.

so much for small government.

Regardless of what you believe about when life begins, the procedure being mandated is unnecessary. It's an overreach of power by the state government. How can you call yourself and small government Conservative and celebrate this?

I love how liberals cry "small government" when it suits them...

Hollow cries they are.

If they choose an abortion, then they choose the ultrasound as well. In Virginia. See, it's a choice.

Then she shouldn't be choosing to kill unborn babies. I'm sorry that having an extra procedure done is such an "inconvenience" to these women as they engage in the act of taking innocent lives.

you make it seem like this procedure, is some form of punishment.
