Washington state approves gay marriage

No being white is a race of people.

Tell that to everyone else out there that thinks differently. I'm always hearing about how blacks are an "underclass". Along with browns. And how whites are considered the "priviledged class".

Wrong. As I said earlier and you either didn't see or ignored, you have a right to marry someone that you love with thier consent. Gays do not. As such you have an extra right that gays do not have.

Isn't that exactly what you are doing....trying to flaunt your heterosexuality and push it down people's throats? See Navy......how about living by the Golden rule for a change. Why expect other people to live according to your views......if we did that....we would all have to run around bragging about boinking other people's wives while their husbands are off serving our country on active duty.

If done legally I think the vote of the people should be what counts........If that was not the case, why have a republic, a democracy, if you don't like how we settle things in this country move to Cuba.

Oh and gays have the same right I do. They want a special right........give it to them and you have to give it to every other class of people.........

We are not a democracy. We are a representative republic.

This means that we elect representatives to represent us and vote for us but the laws they put in place must adhere to the Constitution. This limits our government from becoming a tyranny of the majority. It helps to prevent the majority from removing rights from minorities by popular vote.

No.

I can marry a man but I cannot marry a woman because I am a woman. It does not matter what my sexual orientation or the sexual orientation of the other person is. It doesn't matter why I want to marry that other person either. This is wrong and should be made right by not restricting marriage based on the sex of those involved.

Also, after same sex marriage is legalized, everyone will have the same rights still, only they will have more. A person of either sex can marry a person of either sex. This means that you will have the same right as gays to marry a person of the same sex if you want to. No special rights, since you will be able to do it to legally.

Start a referendum in your state and you can vote on it.

You have a right to marry how on earth is this a "special" right?

You would also be granted the right to marry someone of the same sex, you know, so it's not a "special" right, you would have that right too. You just don't want to exercise it. Guess what? They don't want to marry someone of the opposite gender either. You would both have one right you choose to exercise and one right you choose not to exercise. Hooray equality!

Gays have exactly the same right I do when it comes to marriage. They can marry someone of the opposite sex. They want to change the definition of marriage and marry someone of the same sex. That is a special right.

You heard none of that from me. In fact I am married to and Asian and have about 100 Asian relatives.........try again.

Expand, not change. In either case, the laws regarding marriage in most states has a gender-based requirement. By definition, that is sex discrimination. If Bill and Sally both want to marry Bob, only Sally has the right to, and there's no basis for denying that right to Bill. I mean, no basis other than that it offends the tender sensibilities of some rednecks, but they don't have the right to not be offended, so tough luck. It's none of their business.

For the 1,000 times there is nothing in the constitution about marriage and don't give me the 14th amendment because when the originators signed it the fartherst thing from their mind was gay marriage.

It doesn't matter if they thought of the specific issue of gay marriage, which I'm sure they didn't. They thought of the overall concept of equal protection of the law, and so far, one court after the next has found that this applies to discriminatory laws on marriage. The fact that you don't like it doesn't change the fact that it's a 14th amendment issues, as has been found in several state's courts, appeals courts and supreme courts.

To think you know more about the laws than all those judges do is your right, of course, but that doesn't make it a rational assumption.

You're right. There is nothing in the Constitution directly about marriage. However there have been supreme court cases that have stated that marriage is a fundamental right. And then there is the 9th Amendment which states...

"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

This means that there are rights available to the People that the Constitution does not cover. Indeed it was specifically put in the original Bill of Rights because many believed that by writing the Bill of Rights it would put a limit on the Rights of People by not addressing all of the Peoples Rights. In this case marriage is one of those rights.

Many people seem to either not know this fact, or ignore it.

Oh and I'm quite sure that Nuclear Warheads and planes were not in the founders minds either. But they did know that times change, social norms change and technology changes. This is why they made the Constitution vague in many areas. It is also why the Consitution is considered a Living Document. That "living" part is not just because it is still being followed. But because just like living things, the Constitution can be changed.

That argument was made against interracial marriage. Everyone had the same right to marry someone of the same race. Those darn interbreeders wanted to change the definition of marriage! This argument was rejected.

It's not a special right. They're fighting for your right to marry someone of the same sex too.

You don't have a right to define marriage. There's nothing in the constitution about that.

I don't believe that and don't believe most Americans do................We are part of the white or caucasion race period........We are not a class of people defined by any chosen characteristic.

and that was wrong but it is not the same and its and insult to every morally black person....If you don't believe go down to some black church sometime and ask them how they feel about gay marriage.....It might wake you up but I doubt it.............
