House bans welfare recipients' money from strip clubs, liquor stores

are you leaving part of the story out?
I have absolutely no clue how something like that could make you made.
I gut bought FOOD with a welfare card? oh the rage LMAO

did he buy anything else? maybe he spent his whole card on crawfish? Im just saying the snip-it of story you told me would never inspire anger in me especially to want to assault him????

So weird.

I think the point was that the guy bought luxury. He could have bought food for a family for a week. It's a poor decision. Then again, perhaps he was cooking and selling it at a profit.

I understand how there could be "A" concern but you hit the nail right on the head, unless theres more to the story we have no clue what really happened and IMO its certainly nothing at all to be mad and violent about thats just numb.

So a person on foodstamps doesn't deserve crawfish? You have no idea what this persons normal spending habits are and yet you condemn em for buying what might have been a "splurge" the same as yours.

I absolutely hate this mentality that if someone is on foodstamps/welfare then they shouldn't be allowed ANYTHING but the most basics of basics.

I'm more applaud you think other people should pay for the crawfish. If he wants em, EARN THEM.

I would like this if it weren't for the fact that you misspelled one word and changed the whole meaning of the sentence.

And I'm more apalled that you think that poor people are not good enough to get crawfish just because its more expensive than bread and water. At least that is what you imply.

I have it under good authority that Jesus did not intend his rules of morality and ethics for government, only for individuals. At least that is what some have convinced themselves to be true.

Yeah, but apparently people don't actually do it unless there's a government doing all the work for them.

lol I gotta say THAT was funny

This whole idea is foolish.

We are going to spend MORE money than is given people trying to police that they don't buy any of the "wrong" things once in a while!

Could we be more petty? While TRILLIONS get given to major corporations.

BTW, maybe that guy buying 60 lbs of crawfish is surviving paying his other bills with selling some crawfish gumbo that he makes at the bingo parlor or church? I know people who have survived by doing similar things.

Wait, what?
I don't think that's true.

That's not what I imply. I'm not rich, not by any stretch. But when say I want to fix a batch of Gumbo, I save up, I sacrifice. Maybe work some OT to get extra $$. If I were on Foodstamps, I sure as **** wouldn't have the audacity to use that to buy the ingredients.

I dont' care what you buy, but do it with YOUR OWN earned money, not other peoples money.

Red Snapper Filet, fresh gulf shrimp and crabs. Plus the veggies, the chicken broth, the Anduie (spelling bite me) Sausage, the Okra, the Rice... mmmm mmm good. 6 hours later of course.

Could somebody please provide a list of what would be acceptable foods that could be purchased with food stamps/welfare assistance?

.......And, when you can post evidence that something happening has become a problem, then we can deal with a problem. Post the evidence of how much a person can earn and get any kind of publc assistance! How much of our taxpayer dollars have went to strip clubs, because I want to send more that way? Post it!

Even the very poor deserve to get drunk and see boobies.

Post what? Your post bares little relevance to my post.

And of course you have no idea if they are not sacrificing also huh? You just assume that they are not because its foodstamps.

A household only gets so much in foodstamps per month. They have to make that last and if they get something that they normally do not and costs more than normal then they have to sacrifice something to get it. It will more than likely mean that they will not have enough foodstamps to last out the month. Which means they have to start using thier own money. Which could possibly mean a late bill. Or maybe they use money that they saved up via tips or side jobs that they got through out the month. You. Don't. Know. You just assume the worst.

I am not sure where to start. I have actually read the whole thread.

Let me start with this.

Because I'm 99% certain that if you were in thier shoes you would do the same thing.

It was stated in Inside Job, that when the recent financial crisis happened, the big players that were responsible were complaining to the government that they should of enacted more regulations to prevent their irresponsibility from happening! To me, that is the EXACT same thing. Especially when things start to boil down to sheer survival, people will do anything that they are allowed to do to ensure survival. Will they also abuse the system if it is allowed? Of course, the rich just recently abused the system like crazy! Everyone does it. Everyone is going to do it in a culture that breeds individualism.

I grew up pretty poor. I would eat one meal a day to make sure the rest of my family had enough food for the evening meal. Part of the issue was my parents. They had three children when they had no financial preparation. That is on us. However I had a father who had a MBA from a very distinguished school, and he could not find a job. Why? Age discrimination, but we did not have the money to take a case to court of course, so companies did it anyways to save on healthcare premiums. Compound the fact that my father was too prideful to get assistance from the government, life was disastrous pretty continually. Suffering I feel is too weak of a word.

What I am trying to paint, is a picture of constant struggle, stress, emotional and intellectual pain. That is part of the reason why these people do not work. Some, has to do with drugs. I will say that for sure, there are men and women who do not work because they need to constantly get high. But there are other people in this world that do not work because they are tired of living a world of hell on a constant basis. They are living the American Nightmare. And a lot of that they are not responsible for!

For, when you have a finite money supply and a select few hording all of the cash, the rest hurts! I got used to belly aches, headaches, and constant stress when I was a kid. Then I hear a baseball player moves to another city to earn 10 more million per year. The anger boils.

I was born in that situation. Yes, there are people that get out of it. But let me tell you, there are many people that do not or can't. Some have very bad disabilities while being this broke. And the inhumane practice of keeping them there, in a life of living hell because you do not want to pay for it when people have two story homes and pools in their backyard, is just maddening.

America doesn't care. The only thing America cares about is some meaningless piece of paper coined money. And it is sad. The poor need help, and if anything recently we have been making their lives even more stressful. It is going to get insanely difficult when oil prices continue to rise due to lack of supply.

Where is the empathy people? What did they do to deserve and experience neglect like this?

Wow! Thanks for sharing that. Empathy may be a tough emotion to find in a culture built on I, me, mine. That culture is on its last legs but it isn't aware of it yet.

A few years ago I have a chance to spend a couple of days with a Ph.D. type guy, a very fine fellow, who was directly involved with part of the Katrina response for Mississippi. Over dinner one night we talked about the devastation and I wonder out loud how impossible it must have been for the emergency service providers. Somehow we got on the subject of the television coverage of people stealing booze and cigarettes. He said, "Do you know how insignificant that was compared to acts of survival, soldiery, sacrifice and heroism?" People to this day focus on the same news footage shown again and again of people stealing clothes and alcohol.

He told me something too that I've continued to think about, Katrina victims living in shelters buying small televisions with some of their relief money. Yes, we've all heard about it and the same clueless idiots who know nothing more about Katrina than what they saw on television will rail on and on and on about Katrina shelter people buying televisions. Turns out learned people trained in such things actually researched and studied the television buying behavior.

It was an enigma, he said, in the beginning. No one denies the fact that it happened. What was puzzling to researchers was to why someone would buy and lug a small television back to a shelter where the television couldn't be used. After interviews and investigation it was determined that the reason Katrina people bought televisions with some of their relief money was that after having lost totally everything, even their neighborhoods and with nothing ever to go back to and nowhere to start over the sense of loss and displacement was so great that some people bought televisions as in America televisions are the one thing that everyone has in their homes. Televisions are where you find most families and friends gathered together at some point during the day or week. Televisions were thus an anchor to Katrina victims that they might once again have a place to live, have families and friends, and a routine. That revelation blew me the hell away! I'd never thought about that, but then I've never lost a home, a neighborhood or an entire city.

We are often quick to judge and we often know so little.

Well, you answered my first question at least.
Nearly every post of yours is Rich vs. Poor.

I don't see anyone demanding rich people be tested for drugs? They benefit more from tax dollars than anyone!

What a stupid thing to say.

Welfare recipients aren't simply benefitting from tax policy. They are directly receiving public money predicated on the idea that they cannot provide for themselves.

So are politicians.

If you are using foodstamps to buy a luxury food, that is wrong. Period. That's not what it's for. I know it just makes your little hart bleed to think someone, somewhere can't have a Lobster dinner, or crawfish because they are poor, but that's life.

Then again there's the other perspective: I know it just makes the veins in your head burst to think that you can't keep those you deem less worthy than you under your thumb, but that's life.

"What a stupid thing to say."

More tax dollars directly benefit the rich than the poor.

"Mitt Romney's tax plan would cut taxes for fewer than half of American households, with the wealthy getting most of the benefits, according to an independent analysis released Thursday.

Some taxpayers at the lower end of the scale — those who make less than $40,000 a year — could face a tax increase under Romney's plan.

Under the presumption that the Bush-era tax reductions are extended — as Romney has proposed — nearly all Americans who make more than $1 million would get tax cuts that average $150,000, the review by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center found."

Yet another reason why he shouldn't be receiving welfare. If a guy can cook crawfish and make a profit, he should be running his own business and paying into the kitty like those of us who are paying the bills.

I don't see anyone demanding rich people be tested for drugs? They benefit more from tax dollars than anyone!

Seeing how 50% of American households do not pay federal income tax I find that hard to believe. How does someone who pays no federal income tax and getting welfare and food stamps benifit more from tax dollars that rich people?
