I am not sure where to start. I have actually read the whole thread.
Let me start with this.
Because I'm 99% certain that if you were in thier shoes you would do the same thing.
It was stated in Inside Job, that when the recent financial crisis happened, the big players that were responsible were complaining to the government that they should of enacted more regulations to prevent their irresponsibility from happening! To me, that is the EXACT same thing. Especially when things start to boil down to sheer survival, people will do anything that they are allowed to do to ensure survival. Will they also abuse the system if it is allowed? Of course, the rich just recently abused the system like crazy! Everyone does it. Everyone is going to do it in a culture that breeds individualism.
I grew up pretty poor. I would eat one meal a day to make sure the rest of my family had enough food for the evening meal. Part of the issue was my parents. They had three children when they had no financial preparation. That is on us. However I had a father who had a MBA from a very distinguished school, and he could not find a job. Why? Age discrimination, but we did not have the money to take a case to court of course, so companies did it anyways to save on healthcare premiums. Compound the fact that my father was too prideful to get assistance from the government, life was disastrous pretty continually. Suffering I feel is too weak of a word.
What I am trying to paint, is a picture of constant struggle, stress, emotional and intellectual pain. That is part of the reason why these people do not work. Some, has to do with drugs. I will say that for sure, there are men and women who do not work because they need to constantly get high. But there are other people in this world that do not work because they are tired of living a world of hell on a constant basis. They are living the American Nightmare. And a lot of that they are not responsible for!
For, when you have a finite money supply and a select few hording all of the cash, the rest hurts! I got used to belly aches, headaches, and constant stress when I was a kid. Then I hear a baseball player moves to another city to earn 10 more million per year. The anger boils.
I was born in that situation. Yes, there are people that get out of it. But let me tell you, there are many people that do not or can't. Some have very bad disabilities while being this broke. And the inhumane practice of keeping them there, in a life of living hell because you do not want to pay for it when people have two story homes and pools in their backyard, is just maddening.
America doesn't care. The only thing America cares about is some meaningless piece of paper coined money. And it is sad. The poor need help, and if anything recently we have been making their lives even more stressful. It is going to get insanely difficult when oil prices continue to rise due to lack of supply.
Where is the empathy people? What did they do to deserve and experience neglect like this?
