Here's the UN Press Release. Does anyone else see several layers of problems here?

Obviously, GITMO discussion is hot/cold/recurring depending on who's in the news. The discussion is valid, but that's not my point, here.

I was thinking of these statements:

"To make matters worse, the new National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law in December 2011, now effectively codifies such indefinite military detention without charge or trial."

"I remind all branches of the US Government of their obligation under (new) international human rights law to ensure that individuals deprived of their liberty can have the lawfulness of their detention reviewed before a court".

"I urge the US Congress to take steps to enable the US Administration to close the Guantanamo Bay detention centre – as it stated it wished to do – in compliance with the Government’s obligations under (new) international human rights law".

What are President Obama and Hillary Clinton doing here? Is it common for the UN to speak to Congress instead of POTUS? Has Obama asked the UN to criticize Congress publicly? Or, does this administration no longer garner any international respect? Did this new codification come about at the request or with the support of our own people because they can't take care of business at home?

Dictum that comes down from a body so steeped in anti Semitic thought, anti America thought, and holds as its members some of the worst human rights violators historically, in indeed today has a chairman slot occupied by the representative from Uruguay, is of laughable stature to me. The UN should get the hell out of NYC, and off our land.

Anti-Semitic? It's a legal issue not a ethnic one.

I give a **** what they think. In this case they are right. Don't make the incorrect assumption that all the inmates in GITMO are terrorists. Check and see how they got to GITMO, you might be stunned.

I agree. But, do you think it means anything as far as loss of respect or as to potentially using the international body for national politics?

Our law is the Constitution of the United States. We do not bow to any international overlord.

Uh huh. Sure thing Fagan. How about you be honest with your lean, before asking us to believe fairy tails about Gitmo?

The UN is a very bad organization, full of elitist that believe they know better then the rest of Humanity what's good for it. Burn the building to the ground...

Your partially correct It's a disagreement on the legality of Guantanamo Bay, not anti semitic as you implied previously. It does beg the question however, If we would prefer to circumvent international law, why remain in the United Nations?

Lol anti-semitism card.

Because nothing insults the suffering of the Jewish people more then criticizing those who kidnap torture and persecute innocent people...

Actually, the anti Semitism I was speaking of was not in this particular pronouncement of the laughable UNHRC, but in their history. They have been historically anti Israel, anti America. Why we stay involved with the UN is a real mystery to me as well. We should begin with giving them notice that they are to vacate that complex, and the US.

Yep. I may agree on their points but I have no desire for them to argue them for me.
