AUSTIN — Rick Perry’s dismal showing in the presidential contest has plunged his approval among Texans to its lowest level in a decade, and more than half say in a new poll that he should not seek re-election as governor.

Governor Rick Perry's approval rating in Texas is now even lower than Barack Obama's approval rating in Texas. :rofl

Article is here.

If I had approved of him (and I didn't) before his spot about gay marriage, he definitely lost me there. I think it was the content of his run, not the failed outcome that hurt him.

I don't think the gay marriage thing made a big deal here in Texas. After all he did support marriage amendment to the Texas Constitution banning State recognition of gay marriage.

For the record I voted against the amendment.

Probably true, but it was just the biggest marker in a series of things I didn't like too much. I imagine his ratings would still be high if TX disagreed with me on all of it. Or it could just be that they like to pick presidential winners :)

The particular ad was done in a moronic fashion, simply because it could have interpreted in more than one fashion without any difficulty. Return the right to express Christianity at schools again (as opposed to other religions that aren't suppressed); an attack on gays in the military; a statement that the government's efforts not to endorse a state religion (gone too far) and actually repress expression of religion. Probably some others as well.

I'm sure Perry was trying to appeal to the conservative base but instead it alienated other significant voting blocks. There are a lot of knuckles that should be rapped. The people who wrote the ad, the ones who approved it, and Perry himself, because he did it and approved it

Eventually thats what decimated him.

Perry's early debate performances sealed his fate.

I think he was losing to Obama in Texas even before he announced his candidacy.

I can see why the guy acts like he just got off of meth or something.

IMO, he embarassed some of his texas supporters by his unpredictable demeaner and percieved intellect.(or lack thereof)
