Rand Paul detained by TSA

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (R) was detained Monday by the Transportation Security Administration in Nashville, Tenn. after refusing a full body pat-down, POLITICO has confirmed.

“I spoke with him five minutes ago and he was being detained indefinitely,” Paul spokesperson Moira Bagley said Monday morning. “The image scan went off, he refused patdown.”

The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree, does it. I guess there are special rules if you are a Senator, at least in his mind. Not, apparenlty, in the minds of the TSA.

Rand Paul wasn't doing it because he thought he was entitled as a Senator. If you could accuse him of anything, it could be exploiting a situation to make a political statement.

He's a Senator, right? Unless he's introduced or otherwise supported legislation to stop patdowns, he's a hypocrite. He's not above the law. Seriously. Gimme' a break. I can just hear him: "Do you know who I am????!!!! STFU and spread 'em.

I don't know about the legislation he's introduced, but it's well known that both Pauls are hyper civil-libertarians. So this doesn't surprise me, and I doubt he's being hypocritical.
 
Hopefully this gets his name added to the No Fly List. It would be what he deserves for declining to complete the security procedure. The TSA and local LEO's did exactly what they should have. Nice to see a politician NOT get preferential treatment for once.

bull. he didn't pass the full body scan. he can refuse the pat down all he wants, but the tsa SHOULD detain him.

No, he should only be embarassed if he ignorantly claimed they he refused to allow someone to "fondle" him showing his utter lack of understanding of what the word means or showing him to be pathetically hyperbolic.

I'm well aware of who he is and what he's about. I also disagree with him about as completely as possible. If I were a TSA agent, I'd be singling him out for additional screening every time he came through. The same with his father.

The constitution already has rules in place that gives politicians special treatment.

Article 1 section 6 states that in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same

I posted this in breaking news not realizing it was down here. I think he is doing a great thing, making a good statement. He did in fact offer to go through the scanner again but did not want the pat down. I hope that he gets his message across that they need to cool down on stuff like this. I did not vote for Mr Paul when he was elected, but he seems to be a great Senator so far, and wouldn't mind voting for him next election.
