Obama seeks 'consolidation authority' to merge agencies

"Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) walks away from debt ceiling talks with Biden after refusing to consider any tax increases. The administration had offered $2.4 trillion in spending cuts for $400 billion in taxes, an 83:17 split."
How Republican Tax Intransigence Sank The Super Committee: A Timeline | ThinkProgress

Say what now?

The Democrats offered smoke-and-mirror cuts. What I say is that Obama was full of **** on spending control the day he was sworn in, is full of **** now, and will be full of **** for so long as he breaths air. What I say is that with the Oval Office, and both Chambers, Democrats raised the debt by almost $5 Trillion in 3 years. And Obama ain't done yet.

Were you saying something ?

Yeah, I quoted the facts, but you've got your opinions to keep you warm so have a nice winter.

The 'facts' you quoted left alot to be desired. No one argues that Cantor walked out of the meeting. The numbers reported were just that, numbers. What was IN THE NUMBERS? Those are the desired facts...can you provide those?

The article I reference above listed multiple times the Democrats have offered to cut spending along with raising revenues. Each time it has been rejected.

I expect it will be no different with Obama's proposal to streamline the federal government.

This is a familiar Republican refrain. Obama and Democrats offer to make large spending cuts and Republicans immediately slam the offer back in their faces. So naturally the Democrats don't waste time putting the details of an already rebuffed deal on paper. Then Republicans claim it never happened because ... where's the paper?

Thankfully Obama finally seems to have caught on to this parlor game, which is one reason he's seeking fast track authority to consolidate agencies. Y'all want to shrink government? Really? Well here's your chance. On paper. Yes or no?

Nice ad hom...REALLY EFFECTIVE...:lamo

The July 31 entry was agreed upon...the last offer in the list was Republican...so no 'each time it has been rejected'.

I expect it will be no different with Obama's proposal to streamline the federal government.

I hope not.

Forcing the GOP to either expose their hypocrisy, or support his proposal. Great move!

Do you think Obama's seeking "fast-track authority" is going to reassure independents or drive them away?

Do you think Obama's seeking "fast-track authority" is going to reassure independents or drive them away?

Wouldn't that depend on how much value the independents place on steamlining the federal government to make it easier and quicker for businesses to get the permits and the help they need, while reducing redundancy and costs?

To the extent that it has any effect I would guess that independents would favor the move. I think they're generally in favor of streamlining government and are generally sick to death of all the partisan bickering.

Yes, defending the Constitution has created a lot of partisan bickering. Just let this accomplished leader from the Harvard faculty lounge have his way and the country will be right in no time.

Those years of dumbing down Americans in their schools, colleges and Universities is finally starting to pay off for the Left. Soon they'll join other the growing "Backward Nations With Nuclear Weapons" club if this keeps up.

I can see what you mean about the dumbing down of America. ^^^^

The topic? You mean Grant's false suggestion that this request is in any way unconstitutional? Or his false suggestion that Obama was on Harvard's faculty? Or you wanted me to address his ad hominem comments about "the left"?

Sorry, but if you want to stay on topic, stay on topic and avoid the hyper-partisan rants.

You do know that Presidents had that power given to them for over 50 years right?

Which "hominem" is "the Left" ? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

This has actually become almost comical, if it weren't so tragic.

Saving $3 billion over 10 years, while the government spends much more than that in one day, is now called "streamlining the government"!

Yeah, a billion here and a billion there -- soon you're talking about real money.

They refuse to talk real money Adam. They utterly refuse. When you dying of dehydration, one drop in the proverbial bucket isn't going to save your life. We need it to rain now.

Yeah, a billion here and a billion there -- soon you're talking about real money.

No, not at all. You'd have to be discussing a trillion here and a trillion there before any serious intent was evident.
