Obama seeks 'consolidation authority' to merge agencies

They refuse to talk real money Adam. They utterly refuse. When you dying of dehydration, one drop in the proverbial bucket isn't going to save your life. We need it to rain now.

If you're talking about Republicans, I agree. Democrats offered to cut the defict by more than several trillion dollars and were rebuffed. :shrugs:

Do you have any authority for that?

I personally have no authority at all. Congress had no authority under the Constitution.

You do know Congress still votes on the measures right? They aren't writing him a blank check to do whatever he wants.

Hmm... I seem to recall another 1.2 Trillion in deficit spending approved coming up. If that's not a blank check, I don't know what is.

That has nothing to do with the power to consolidate agencies and it's not a blank check. It was a pre-approved debt limit increase.

Correction: Pre-approved blank check. Feel better?

Then you can cite where the Supreme Court struck it down???

Can you cite where in the Constitution Congress has the authority ???

Can you cite where in the Constitution Congress has the authority ???

Can you cite the paragraph(s) in the Constitution that this scheme would violate?

I'm not talking about this "scheme" I'm referring to the 50 years of giving power to the Executive branch, which was a statement made by liveonramen.

This has actually become almost comical, if it weren't so tragic.

Saving $3 billion over 10 years, while the government spends much more than that in one day, is now called "streamlining the government"!

This is but one piece of the spending cuts that will be needed. For example, large military spending cuts will also be needed and some have already been proposed. How much did the GOP save with their big spending cut, eliminating funding for NPR????

And you see no advantages to business in this proposal?

The Constitutionality of it was never challenged. If you think you've got a case against it, there is a process for you to follow.

Further, it isn't intended solely as a spending reduction measure. It's also intended to improve the functioning of government and make it more responsive, which should pay dividends.

You are the one that declared it unconstitutional in the absence of a ruling by the Supreme Court. The onus is on you to prove your case before the Supreme Court. Please do get back to us with the outcome.

Yes, and i would think it should be obvious that anything we can do to get our businesses growing and prospering would be a very good thing!

Not a blank check, more of a gift Credit Card.

 Whatever you wanna call it. I know you guys on the right have personalized the debt problem as Barack Obama to ridiculousness....but it's only authorization for the Treasury to issue debt to pay the bills, not Barack and Michele buying a new house.

You don't need to be on the right to understand that the spending this country is doing is out of control.

I am not on the right.

I am actually blaming both parties for what is going on.

Thanks for the gross generalization.

Well you did parrot right wing rhetoric. That Obama is just cashing the check, he wants the debt ceiling raised and Congress is just doing him a favor.

Yeah, and I'm not on the left.

The parroting of the right wing noise machine has nothing to do with asking for a balanced budget or less spending. It has to do with how your acting like raising the debt ceiling is a gift to Obama.

Actually, I didn't act like it was a gift to obama. I joked that the blank check analogy was incorrect and that it was more of a gift credit card (as in a credit card you get as a gift with a fixed monetary amount you can spend on it). Next.
