Police kill armed eighth-grader in Texas school

Cute. Show up in my house in the middle of the night and I will show you my white flag. Don't mistake my posts as anti-gun. I just don't believe they should be the first option.

…which will put you in a terrible position the very first time you come up against an armed criminal who thinks that a gun is his first option. You know the cliché about bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Sure, whatever gives you a warm and fuzzy.

Right you are...an 8 year old is shot dead. 3 cheers for Texas, the most gun happy State in the Union. Can you imagine if that boy had lived...the horror.
THe NRA should give that kids Dad a medal for teaching his youngsters about guns at an early age.

8th GRADE... that is 13 or 14 years old.

...and RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) should give your teachers a kick in the balls.

You blame teachers for the failings of students?

You just insulted every child who started school late because of their birthday. . . . do you win an award?

Almost nobody to nobody is 19 graduating high school as a senior due to starting school late due to their Bday.

I don't think right to "bear arms" very specifically enumerates a right to carry a pistol on school grounds. You can argue that such a right is implicit from the broad wording, but you can just as easily infer a right to gay marriage from the broad wording of EP or the P&I clause.

I'm not sure pistols even existed when the constitution was written, but I'm certain nothing like what we think of as an elementary school ground did.

For nearly three centuries; they were invented in the 1490s. By the time of the Revolution, they were a gentleman's weapon for resolving duels.

I believe from the framers articles that they were extremely familiar with history and life of firearms. More so, they wanted us to have them under any circumstances.

Just because you give a person the ability to carry a weapon, it doesn't mean they will have fortitude to use it. There is a reason they are in education, not the military/police. It would make more sense to have police patroling the school.

Granted. But I don't think it matters. Mass murders occur in gun free zones because they are gun free. So let's fix that by making them gun rich zones. When everyone employed by the state in our schools is very likely armed and competent we will have very few additional days of trouble.

Show me proof that arming the school officials would result in less violence. Some colleges have armed security guards ( I.e. Virginia Tech) and still have gun violence. I don't buy it.

Of course you don't buy it. Do you think an armed villain looks upon one or two armed security guards, easily recognized, easily identified and easily dispatched, if necessary, in the same way as the potential for any adult he sees being armed and skilled? If you were the armed villain which would you prefer be the target of your mayhem, a campus filled with tender unarmed targets and clearly marked as a gun free zone, or a campus filled with armed adults clearly marked as a gun rich zone? Would you pass by the latter and seek out the former? Most would. The one's who would not would be stopped by people armed with guns. Do you prefer to be murdered while waiting for an armed response from the local police force or would you prefer an immediate armed response from adults on the scene?
