The owner of an eatery in New York City's Lower Manhattan who said he was forced to let go 25 percent of his staff last month due to the Occupy Wall Street protests now says he might have to close his doors for good come next week.

Marc Epstein, owner of the Milk Street Cafe, tells FoxNews.com that authorities have not taken down barricades around Zuccotti Park and along Wall Street despite the dwindling number of protesters since they were evicted from their encampment two weeks ago, keeping consumer foot traffic and his profits to a minimum.

“It’s like a siege mentality down here. It’s killing business for everyone down here,” said Epstein, who said he was forced to fire 21 employees after sales dropped 30 percent since the start of the Occupy Movement. “If we don’t get relief, I won’t be able to stay open past Tuesday.”

Epstein says that foot traffic has dropped despite the camp being removed from the area and that he’s losing vital business from tourists that have been avoiding the area.

Officials for the police department said there are no longer barriers at the Milk Street Cafe and haven’t been for some time. Barriers remain at the Stock Exchange, where they have existed long before the cafe opened.

But despite where the barricades are, Epstein says that the disruption around Wall Street has gone on for far too long.

“Now that the protesters have waned, let’s get life back to normal already,” Epstein said.

Requests for comment to City Hall were not immediately returned.

New York City Cafe May Shut Its Doors For Good Due To 'Occupy,' Owner Says | Fox News

When is enough, enough?

As far as the “Occupy” vermin are concerned, the cafe's owner is surely a filthy evil capitalist who made his wealth by exploiting workers and consumers and destroying the environment. They probably are proud to take him down.

You ought to be more concerned.

If the “Occupy” vermin drive enough of your city's businesses out of business, causing tax revenues to be reduced by enough, your employer may be forced to cut off some of the dead wood, and reduce its work force down to those who perform actual work. Forced out of your comfy sinecure, will you deign to seek a real job, and how successful will you be at it in a local economy where too many potential employers have been taken out, especially given that you will have to compete with others who have actual experience and aptitude at doing productive work?

Will you continue to defend these vermin when they become a threat to your own livelihood?

wtf does this unprovoked personal attack have to do with the thread??????

Not an “unprovoked personal attack”. I'm pointing out why, in your specific situation, you ought to recognize the threat that these vermin pose to your own way of life. If they should cause you to lose your sinecure, forcing you to degrade yourself to the unthinkable level of seeking a real job that may involve doing actual work, will you still defend them?

You're apparently OK with them destroying other people's livelihoods, but what about when they destroy yours? Will you be OK with that?

He's not attacking you personally, he is just using you to make a point that you have yet to refute, quit being so sensitive.

So what is this article about, then? Oh:

But despite where the barricades are, Epstein says that the disruption around Wall Street has gone on for far too long.

Just pointless anti-OWS whining. Quality reporting from Fox News, as always.

The damage has already been done, KC.

And no, this is not "pointless anti-OWS whining."

Yeah...telling him he doesn't have a real job or that he doesn't do actual productive work is not personel.....
Again, it's all in the example. He hasn't even cursed and yet, thunder is supposed to be attacked? Mocked, maybe. But definitly not a personal attack, lest Thunder makes it so.

The OP has absolutely, literally, zero point to it. The article is about the cafe owner whining about barricades being up and hindering his business to the extent that he might have to close, when the reality is that those barricades haven't existed for some time. So where's the story here?

sure he is. he is accusing me of having a job that doesn't require real work, and having no skills of actual work. he does this left & right, week after week, in many threads.

Well, as far as he is concerned, you probably don't. That's just his opinion though, that is not a direct attack on you.

That's bogus, partisan hackery. The guy lost 25% of his staff because of the OWS a month ago, and now he may have to close his business because of it. Perhaps you've never had a business, and have no idea how such damage could affect a business in this economy, eh?

Tourists haven't been going to the area because of the OWS. He's had to fire 21 employees and lost 30% of his sales because of the OWS. Now, he may lose his business because of them.

You may not perceive any damage done to the business because of the OWS, but that does not excuse you for ignoring it.

No, it's not, it's what the owner said in your article. Look:

This all stemmed from the OWS. Therefore, the OWS is to blame for this. I will also place blame on the authorities for not removing the barricades sooner, yet those barricades would not be needed if the OWS had actually been peaceful and not ****** up the city.

According to authorities, they were removed sooner. Did you even read the article you posted before descending into your typical anti-OWS vitriol?

Its because its a repost of the original story that ran about 34 days ago.

Marc Esptein, Owner Of Milk Street Cafe On Wall Street, Says Barriers Put Up Because Of Occupy Wall Street Demonstration Are Killing His Business « CBS New York

They moved the barricades, but the foot traffic didn't return. Sucks to be him.

the occupation of Zuccotti Park was peaceful. there is no evidence that the NYPD set up the barricades to "prevent violence".

Any time there are large crowds barricades are set up to direct traffic. You'd see the same thing at Comicon.

Um.....its very simple: setting up barricades around Zuccotti Park while leaving the sidewalk open, wouldn't hurt any businesses.

There are no businesses adjacent to the park. There is a street & large office building to its north, a large street to its west & east, and more offices to the south.
